Official Mining Thread

Thanks, +rep. Hopefully the mods will move the mining posts from the other thread into this one.

So I take it everyone recommends NiceHash Miner?

This looks to be fun to play with. Plus, making $7.00 a day is't that bad of a deal.

Got the 980ti's running at 70C with the water coolers.

Just bumped up to Nist5 at 91.503 MH/s.

It makes my mouse jumpy and typing a little laggy but other than that it isn't that bad. I may just run it at night. That is if I can find a way to schedule the damn thing.

Adjusted the fan profiles on the 980ti water coolers.

Now I'm sitting pretty at 60C steady.

We've been force relocated to a new thread?? :bleh:
We were squatters in the other one. :D

I don't use nicehash. It's good for beginners and those people who don't want to put much effort into it. I think you're efficiency will be higher if you use individual clients yourself and start targeting individual coins based on profitability. You'll be able to tweak your GPU to run better under each algorithm that way too.

If you don't want to do anything but double click, spin the fans up, and walk away then nicehash is your best option probably.

Not sure I'm going to keep doing this with current results. I'm projecting about $116/mo at current usage and payouts with a 1080Ti. That's before factoring in cost of electricity and withdrawal fees.

Doing this for $70/mo or so is hardly with the effort. Going to do a one month trial, so I'll keep at it. But so far this doesn't look like it's worth my time.

I wonder how much my Titan XM would pull in at 1430. I don’t pay electric either since I live on base ..

Hmm.

But so far this doesn't look like it's worth my time.

I'm not into mining but I thought one of the good things about it was it doesn't require much time and effort on your part. You just set it and forget it.

Or am I missing something? Are you constantly needing to watch it, tweak it, etc?

Profitability is down because the alt currencies are down along with everything else. Was gonna happen sooner or later. How far and how long it stays down is anyone's guess.

That's basically it, it's pretty simple. But I'm not going to run my PC 24/7 over $70-$80/mo no matter how simple it is. If I can do it for $100/mo profit, I'll let it run. Even that's borderline. Otherwise, for me, it's not worth it. The bigger issue will be during the summer. I'll have to move the PC to a different location in the house every day to keep it cool. Or set it up permanently somewhere else, which isn't going to happen.

OK I get it now.

Yeah maybe if this was a secondary PC you could just stick in a cool spot in your basement or something. But if its your main PC for everything else I can see it becoming a burden and not worth it.

What is nicehash telling you it's 70$/month?

Lol get off that thing. That is bullcrap.

It's not.

I'm going by my actual payouts. I'll see what it actually is at the end of the monthl. But from current payouts, I'm expecting $120 or so depending on Bitcoin value. Then, I need to subtract electrical cost and withdraw fees.

Some of the issue is turning it off to play games, which I'm not going to stop. That's why I have it in the first place. The other issue is a lot of people just add the difference in electrical cost for running the PC full load vs idle. My PC was always off unless I was using it. It all adds up.

Same I refuse to not play games so as to not miss out on a couple hours of production. I still fire up battlefront 2 and play on the weekends for a while.

I am however trying to figure out a way to keep the secondary GPU running while I use the primary to game on. :D

Checking the payouts is a good way to verify production and I don't totally trust the calculators myself. They seem to over-estimate by 20-25% IME.

Calculators only do so much good on the fluctuating value of a commodity. Another thing to consider is say you stop mining because you're only making $70/month on whatever coin. Then a year from now that same coin flies up 400% in value. Such situations can happen.
