Official XBOX Series X thread

Digital Foundry's podcast this week, had some discussion about whether or not Sony or Microsoft could try to enter the handheld market. One point that really struck me, is that the Series S spec is far more likely to be within reach of a steamdeck-style portable device in the upcoming years.

Could it be that this is xbox's strategy... To have a lower-end sku that all games are compatible with, in preparation for an eventual portable? If so, it's pretty genius. It would be nearly impossible for Sony to follow suit, as every studio would have to release an updated lower-tier version of every game in order to make the compatible, whereas the Xbox ecosystem already has that support built in to their library.

As great as this may be, I think it's rather obvious Microsoft is concentrating their efforts on the cloud. All I can see in the future is them relying on mobile devices to stream their games with their Game Pass subscription.

Microsoft Won't Drive Up Xbox Pricing Amidst PS5 Price Hike

Microsoft Won't Drive Up Xbox Pricing Amidst PS5 Price Hike

Microsoft could change its mind later, of course. But, for now, Xbox prices are staying put.

In a statement to Windows Central, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that there are no plans to raise the price of the Xbox Series X or the Xbox Series S, reiterating that they will remain at their baseline RRPs in various currencies, including USD, GBP, and EUR.

“We are constantly evaluating our business to offer our fans great gaming options. Our Xbox Series S suggested retail price remains at $299 (£250, €300) the Xbox Series X is $499 (£450, €500).”

They've been pretty good with their stock lately. I can see it being an issue when it gets closer to the holidays at the end of the year.

Sony didn't do the price hike in the States, 'cause that's where xbox is a strong competitor. MS won't do the price hike at all, 'cause the States is the only place that they're really competitive.

Sony knows they can get away with a price hike in other parts of the world, as there's really no direct competition.

MS should have dropped the price (even for few months). Would have been funny.

But Sony raising prices is crazy. Consoles suppose to drop... no raise. But people will still buy Sony.

Yeah, smart move on their part. Only possible drawback is it might put the console in the hard-to-find category once more?

Probably…and if rumors are to be believed about the Pro dropping next year it’s going to make the original a harder sell for some people who will probably choose to wait….until they can’t get a Pro because of the same reasons lol.

I really miss the days when I could walk into any Best Buy and grab a console of my choosing.

I remember those days too. I have a ps5 and a series x. I was able to obtain both at suggested retail prices. ps5 was purchased at bestbuy while the series x was at gamestop. ironically i rarely play either these days.

You got them both off the shelf? Shens!! :p

I got my PS5 from Sony and don’t have an x yet. Mostly consoles these days just to save wear and tear on my laptop (RTX 3060)

If I’m going to get an x I should do it soon before MS changes their mind, and I don’t see a PS5 pro in my future. There aren’t enough games for the original I have now.

Halo Infinite Season 3 Delayed to March 2023, Split-Screen Co-Op Canned

Halo Infinite Season 3 Delayed to March 2023, Split-Screen Co-Op Canned

Promise made, promise broken.

343 Industries has shared its latest development roadmap, and it's not good news.

The biggest news is that the game's next season has been delayed to March 2023. That's an excruciatingly long time to wait. For context, Battlefield 2042, which released around the same time and also suffered delays, is also on Season 2, with the next Season planned for the end of this year.

The bad news doesn't end there, as split-screen local co-op has now been cancelled outright. "In order to improve and accelerate ongoing live service development, and to better address player feedback and quality of life updates, we have reallocated studio resources and are no longer working on local campaign split-screen co-op," 343 said in an accompany development video.

As for Season 3, expect to see new Arena and Big Team Battle maps, a new weapon, new game modes and of course a new Battle Pass.

Microsoft really needs to hand Halo off to another studio with fresh leadership. 343 has been dropping the ball for many years now and it doesn't look like things are improving or going to improve.
