Path of Exile (Free Action RPG)

HC isn't for everyone period. I can play a virtually perfect game, one slip (and it will happen) then I'm done and pissed off. I don't play games like this to get pissed off. :)

But, there's nothing saying you can't approach the game the same way.

I like HC, play it almost in all games where it's avilable. It is reinforced by the fact that I'm in it for the experience and not exactly the win. So, for example, I have yet to finish Alienation on PS4 and have not yet seen a few levels but the thrill of getting into an unknown place with one life trumps the desire to finish the game.

Ofc it's different in H&Ss but here I find HC the only solution to the free death problem. I mean, I can't wrap my head around the idea of respawning at a checkpoint but with killed enemies staying dead and chipped life bars staying chipped. What's wrong with respawning everybody and maxing the life bars?

Atm I think I'll just use self restraint in PoE, respawn at town each time I die and wait those 15 minutes or sth for the area to refresh, otherwise it's too cheap for me.

Hold ctrl when clicking to enter a map, you'll ge a list of servers and can click new instance. No need to wait 15 minutes.

Thanks, will try that. I'm still undecided though whether to stick to PC or play on PS4 pro (have it installed on both), as ashamed as I am to admit it heh. While PC with DSR destroys the PS in gfx and managing gems on a pad is a true pain, the movement is so much more natural and dodging so fluid on a pad that, somehow, it's still a question for me. I like the developer's decision to differentiate the versions though.

Yesterday I browsed their shop for sth to buy in order to support the game, found nothing though. I don't like the cosmetics, prefer the muted look of the gear that you find in game over the shiny and special. It was very brief search though, is it possible to buy inventory space or in general sth useful?

is it possible to buy inventory space
Only in the Chinese version, they get a lot of QoL the rest of the world has to do without. (like larger inventory, in game flask macros, auction house and pets which pick up currency) GGG puts stash tabs on sale about once every 3 weeks or so, it's pretty handy having at least one of each type and a couple quads, they will make your life a lot easier.

I second the stash tabs. Buy a supporter pack (or the first buy pack) that has at least something you like. Like an aura, or portal, or pet etc, because you get the most bang for your buck. Then spend the coins you get in that package to buy some of the stash tabs. The currencey one is a must have. The map one i think is also a must. The Delve one is useful if you enjoy delving into the mines. The fragments tab is pretty nice qol too.

The other tabs are not that important, unless you hoard things. Though the uniques tab and maybe 1 or 2 quad tabs certainly gives you more breathing room.

Also, outfits and stuff are not what you? some of the portals are great, or some of the skill effects. Some of the skill effects are pretty nice to look at! Invisible auras is not a bad choice either.

Thanks for the advice guys, might as well use it as I'm going to support one way or another.

From the outfits I've seen, I much prefer the look of the marauder in all that raw, basic gear. Have to look at skills etc, didn't pay much attention, basic ones look pretty good as well though.

Pets, that's an interesting one. In theory, I'd like one but in practise, when at the beggining I started using ground slam as a phantasm factory (also with that support gem that makes a skill hit more targets), it was useful to take attention off me but kind of worsen the mood of the game. Seems it has to be me alone against the world in this one, I think I got OCD about my characters in rpgs lately, everything has to fit and be perfect (not system wise though, but stats have to make sense with char). The process of creating my parties for the other PoE and Pathfiner were agonising, to fit my feel of the word (ie Pillars closer to Thorgal rather than Tolkien) etc and I wasn't even that enthusiastic about both games.

So, this feeling of desolation seems to be a big part of the appeal of the game and even the phantasms seem too merry a companions to have heh. Don't ask, I don't think this is the standard hackandslashy approach but this game gives me this feeling I get, I don't know, high up in the mountains or in the abandonded factory or sth. It's rare but happens with games ie Stalker, Dark Souls etc and for me it's more important to preserve than being efficient or get more stuff or sth.

It's been hard to find time to play this last week, with either me or PC and PS4 occupied, but the fix is strong, I get slight shivers hearing the menu music heh.

I left my standard char somewhere in the 2nd act and started HC delirium again, this time with lockstep. Still very early as all I managed to play was an hour in total maybe, and very careful in approach, dodging every stupid crab and kiwi, but it's a great fun already. I plan to try this with a few chars and, after the inevitable failure, return to standard guy.

Btw I play 4 players couch coop Chaosbane with my family and have to say, the no respec thing in PoE really gets me much more immersed with the character. The characters in the former feel more like empty vehicles for skills or sth, there's no real journey of the char only new variants to try and with one, you will see them all. Hope this stays semi locked in PoE and that the trend in general dies with D3.

Having sat our several leagues, I'm looking forward to jumping back in for one in Sentinel, not because of Sentinel per se, but because they've added a lot of mechanics that I haven't participated in before... mastery node, atlas redo, etc.

I'm thinking a wand-based Trickster using Kinetic Bolt + Spellslingered Fireball (or similar ignite-inducing spell). (what are 3 abilities and a weapon I've never used, Alex?)

yeah, path is is a pretty decent place right now. the new challenge rewards are cool too. you cant really go wrong with anything you do as a starter build these days. though there are still some that trivialize the campaign. I hope you enjoy the league :D

The new archnemesis enemy mod system really sucks for some content... especially Heist and Mines where you could have 3+ rares on you at once, in ADDITION to it just being difficult content.

agreed. the new mods really need some more balancing. blight is down right awful, some enemies jump leap at the pump and its instant loss. Agreed about heist, the mods stack behind doors is nasty.

Played crucible with a fun lightning tendril build (that also spits critting icicles) that's done better than all of my previous league builds so far (gave up halfway through 93 instead of 91 or 92.) I got a few goodies in that league that seemed purpose-built for a Dominating Blow build (haven't tried that skill or a Templar guardian yet), so decided to level up a character in standard to inherit the goodies when it is possible. Even using crappier stuff, he's ripping things up. Guardian summoner builds are no joke... :)

Given the tease of changing ascendancies, etc, wanted to try it out before all of the rules get revamped in Poe 2.

Nice! Love tendrils, but never got it working in a way i liked. As for ascendancies, they said both sets will be available in poe2, cause you will be able to pick which campaign to play, and get different ascendancies based on which one you pick. They didnt say this next part, but then they should both lead into the same endgame as i doubt they would separate the end game like that.

I tried a few different variations, and the ones that focused solely on the tendrils have a reach problem that makes it not work nearly as well as it looks like it should on paper. Went with near 100% crit rate and crit high multiplier, and then did a cast while channelling for Ice Spear. Boom... all of a sudden you have reach. As things are coming for you, you can unload at a distance (through doorways, play hide and seek with columns, etc), and if they get close they get their clocks handed to them. For boss types, frostblink in close then unload.

Also had an Unleashed Manabond that was fun for blasting out junk and leaving a galvanic field to guard a pathway. (galvanic field was giving me my leech effects)

Defensively arctic armor, the frost dome, and a fair amount of health and energy shield leech. most of the time I could just stand there and take it as they're super-chilled. :)

Sounds fun, maybe i'll try ice spear some time. I usually do pair it with things, but stick to lightning, so like arc or ball. Storm Call is fun, but with out the duration reduction its not as effective until afte they come at you. I did build a cold nova version once, but never played it. Glacial cascade is really nice.
