Quake 3 Anyone?

I just got the Radeon 64M DDR VIVO. All my games fly with it (esp. Unreal Tourney), except Quake 3. I mean, the game looks and runs great but it crashes on me frequently. I'm running the game in Win Me. I've got everything on high (1280x1024, 32bit, Geometry high, color depth 32bit, etc. etc.). I thought it might be a driver conflict since everything runs smoothly with my other games. I don't think so anymore since I just installed the 4.12.3054 drivers, and the same thing happens after a few minutes or after one game, single or multiplayer. Anyone experiencing something similar?

My system specs are:

P3 600 @630
SB Live! Value
ASUS P3B-F
256 SDRAM
Radeon 64M DDR VIVO
Dual Partition: Win 2000 and Win Me.

Could you be more specific? Do you have OpenGL in ATi drivers set to Quality or Performance? Are you enabling full-scene anti-aliasing? Are you enabling texture compression? Is your Anisotropic texture filtering enabled?

Presently I have it set to 1280x1024@32, with the default "Quality" settings in the ATi Radeon DDR Properties.

Thanks for your help.

So far so good. I would just like to run it at a higher resolution (1280@32, instead of 1024@32) with the "Quality" instead of "Performance" option in ATi's display properties, OpenGL. Call me a sicko for beauty, eye candy! :)

Well, I am having similar lockups with FAKK 2. Its a Q3 based engine, but everyince in a while it freezes my machine. Not usre if its my Radeon/system or the game.

I am running it a quality, 1600x1200x32 and only getting about 25-45 fps. Is seems a bit low. I also noticed that Framerate drops to like 10 or below, when I am looking closeing at a single wall or an ostacle.

Could my radeon be defective ?

If your framerate tanks when standing next to a wall, try dropping the texture detail down one notch.

That should eliminate DETAIL textures.

See if that helps.

Q3 runs rock solid for me on both 98se and
Win2k.

No crashes that weren't related to OC my RAdeon :)
