Race to 10 million

I'm folding on 3 GPU's (along with a bunch of CPU's) right now:
HD6950 - ~9000PPD
HD6850 - ~6500PPD
HD5770 - ~6000PPD

All I've done is drop a core from the CPU so the GPU can get some cycles. The drop in PPD on the CPU is more than covered for with the gain in PPD from the GPU's.

My single GTX560ti is crunching out about 13kPPD and it uses less than 1% of CPU. so, in terms of Folding power, nV cards gave you more PPD for less, and you don't have to drop a CPU core.

such is the inherent problem with stanford's gpu folding core. they continue to neglect their AMD client.

:-) That's cool but the point of my comment was if you have a good AMD GPU, depending on the CPU you have, it still makes sense to GPU fold.

My one CPU is a PII 975 running at 4Ghz so for me it makes sense to pull in the HD 6950 GPU as the CPU isn't all that wonderful in PPD. I also have an i5-2500 so I have pulled in the HD6850 and that is getting me a net higher PPD on that system because of the GPU.

You just have to balance the CPU and GPU depending on what hardware you have if you are looking to get max PPD.

Damn i could really use that 200 bucks too. Good thing I'm the sysadmin where i work. Lets see what i can do!

Well I've added one of my new domains I built 6 months ago with an i7 2600k, but I've limited it's cores since it runs some biz critical things. It's cranking out a % every 5 minutes though.

I want to add the sister domain to the machine above, but shes having issues downloading the WU. That T1 has always been wonky though, I'll have to work on that later.

Also added a random AMD a6-3600 we just recently got for someone. Need to monitor it's temps since it's inside a gateway prebuild, but so far so good. She doesn't need 4 cores for word processing anyways! :)

Despite losing certain machines but bring up others I've been keeping a pretty steady PPD.

I don't wanna brag or anything but i should hit 10 mill in 10 days!! ;)

you've done a lot to bring up production and help the team! and an extra $200 should help as well :)

hopefully you'll be able to get all your machines online and aim for the top 5! :D

I really want to. The two domains i admin are perfectas they've both got 2600K's. Even at SMP 4 the one i had running before i took it offline was pumping out some nice PPD.

The problem is the one local one started randomly rebooting while folding. As soon as i stopped folding the issue went away. I'll have to plan some weekend time to come in and take a closer look. I don't think it's heat related since it "should" throttle itself and while the temps are high they aren't in a danger zone, could be voltage. I know it's not ram though cuz i custom built it and ran memtest for a few days. I did some prime95 on it too when i built them, but maybe i didn't thoroughly test it.

The other one can't get a WU due to inet issue. I tracked that issue down to something between the nic card and the router. Unfortunately since it's 200 miles away that one isn't as easy to work on. Although it literally just dawned on me that v7 supports proxy, so i might be able to get that folding this weekend!

Ahh well enough about my work life :P

HA HA!!!!

Thanks man, i was honestly scared when you ramped up production like you did. This was a fun contest!

It certainly showed me my domains are less stable then i thought. I finally got the remote one folding these last few days and this morning my monitoring server started txting me saying it went down too. :(

But winning this contest will allow me to get some parts and allow me to run GPU + SMP at home so total win!

I want to thank the rage team for running this contest, but i also want to thank all the members who fold. My family has some of the diseases that F@H is researching, which is my primary reason for folding myself. Not to mention it's a great cause in general.

Thank you all!
