Samsung M8 32”

The reviews don't look too stellar. I'm not a huge fan of using "Smart" TVs as monitors anyway, so I'm biased. I don't like paying for features that I won't use. The Bixby integration is another red flag for me.

Funny, I always hated Bixby and glossed right over that. :( I’ve seen a number of reviews calling it a good bang for the buck, but there are others that are also good value and don’t have bixby.

Dang - I’m really looking for an alternative to plunking down bigger bucks for a c2.

Choosing a monitor is surprisingly difficult after using an OLED for the past year. Nothing but another OLED seems to tick all the boxes for me.

Why haven’t I ever heard of that before?! I was hoping to keep it to 42” or less, but for that price….Looking into it now, thanks!

I looked at it before landing on the LG C1 that I picked up. Mostly because this was more "desktop" ish. It's not quite as bright I think as C1 but it behaves like a real monitor so I think the tradeoff is worth it.

My local Microcenter carries them, but they’re out of stock at the moment. You may have just solved my dilemma :)

Do they have any on display that you can go take a look at first? There's a similarly sized model, I wanna say it's like an FV43U or something. But it's not an OLED panel so I'm not sure you should be interested in it.

I'd suggest looking at that similar model from Asus the ROG Swift 48" OLED but I'm not sure it's out yet.

I don’t know what they have in store for displays yet, but I just finished watching that review and Linus sure seems to like it. And for $800 ….

I think I’m going to grab one soon as I can. I can check out the Asus too.

Thanks Shrike, you just made this a lot easier on me :)

To be clear, I'd look at several reviews first. The OLED panel they used on that Aorus product isn't a 1:1 match with a similarly sized LG panel because they limit brightness and whatnot to make it more easy to use on a PC. Plus with just using an LG there's some annoyances about auto-dimming, and getting it to wake up when you've got it plugged into a PC without having to go fumbling with a remote. I still went with an LG C1 panel because I wanted to primarily use it for gaming, and wanted all the bells and whistles, but I don't recommend it for most people unless they know what they're getting into.

But if this is more productivity on a big screen focused, then yeah I think that FO48U might be what you're looking for.

Yep, this is all about productivity, possibly a small amount of media consumption. I use a CX 55 for my primary gaming and windows (and Mac lol) monitor at the moment, but I want to split the Mac off into just a work station completely separate from everything else. The 42” would be ideal, but I can work with the 48” with some adjustments. It’s that hard to live with office I mentioned in your “vent my PC” thread.

Oh well if you already have a CX 55" for gaming and just want a big workstation monitor for productivity, then yeah I'm guessing this 48" OLED for under $1k but setup as a "monitor" rather than just a TV being used as a monitor is probably a pretty healthy route to go.

I'd be curious what that hard-to-live-with office looks like. Did you share a pic? I don't recall seeing one.

I never did post a pic, and would be ashamed to now  The room has my desk with current setup, wiring is atrocious due to things being moved, and everything else is on the floor as I’m bringing in new (old but refinished as I find it) furniture, just because I like the “old” aesthetic.

Edit: gimme a minute and I’ll share my shame :p

To be fair to myself, I had a nice, clean setup and then decided I wanted to change it, and it’s been…challenging, getting the more antique-ier look I want.

Bruh... :twitch:

We have some work to do.

Is that thing above your desk a wall mounted LG CX 55" you use for gaming? And is that connected to your Mac? So safe to assume the laptop, Mac, work setup is going on the opposite wall? Or are we trying to find room for the 48" in amongst all of that desktop space?

No kidding rite?

I have another desk incoming that should be ready to use in about a week - handbuilt old beauty that will be going on the kneewall side, maybe. The wall angle is just enough that I can have the 48” at about desktop height if I keep it about 20” from the baseboard on that side, and that’s where the Mac and printer will go.

The laptop is hooked up to the CX, and actually works really well as I have the Windows desktop shrunk to about 35% (give or take) of the CX screen, and I’ll move the flight sim stuff to the right side where the printer sits now.

That’s the rough draft at least. I told ya man…it’s a challenge :(

My wife wants me to use her craft room instead which would alleviate any and all space concerns, but it would crunch her productivity, so I want her to keep that room.

Another room in the basement was talked about, but it’s not as secure from the womb demons (grandkids) and them getting to my stuff is a hard no lol.

Edit: I’ve also thought about ditching the TV altogether and just living with smaller monitors. But it’s hard to do coming from an OLED.
