I have a 1ghz amd athlon 266fsb 64mb DDR Vivo Radeon A Santa Cruz sound card Win ME 40gb 7200 rpm ATA100 Hard Drive and 512mb of DDR pc2100.Should i upgrade to the 1.4 GHZ AMD cpu

dont waste yer money Joshua17!

dont waste yer money Joshua17!

in today's apps and games... 1ghz isn't that much slower than a 1.3ghz athlon... thats still plenty of performance...

also, here's another way of looking at it (let me asume for a second that the radeon2 is already availble): if u compared your 1ghz + radeon2 vs a 1.3ghz + radeon, u'd get way more performance benifit in games with the 1ghz + radeon2...

hence a video card upgrade would be the smartest thing for you... just save the $ unti the radeon2 comes out...

the best bet is to wait for the Athlon 4 (Palimino) and get one thats 2ghz and get a dual socket board (AMD 76x dual cpu chipset) with 256mb+ of DDR ram (and throw in a radeon2 while u're at it)... then i'd say UPGRADE!!!!

hey... look at my sig... if anything, i should upgrade, but i can still play d2, ut & mech4 at 8x6x32 relatively smooth... hence i think i'll wait for a while yet... :)

I have 4 friends that all have 1gig Athlons with a 266mhz fsb, and they're all AXIAs. I would bet good money that yours is too, and if it is, you should be able to overclock the crap out of it. I think they all got theirs to either 1.333ghz or 1.4ghz, with just air cooling. You said you have a DDR motherboard, but you didn't say which one. If it has a multiplier setting in the BIOS, and hopefully a VCORE adjustment, you shouldn't have any problems getting it to 1.3ghz+.

WTF?!?!?!?!

You already have a AMD1giger, and u wanna upgrade to a 1.4, are u phucked in the head or something?!?!?!?!?!;)

Like said above, if your running games, the MOST ive seen for recommended was an 800. SO YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT!!!!

Unless your running 4-5 3drendering programs which are rendering at the same time, then maybe, but from 1 to 1.4, i dont think youll see that much of a gain compared to what your expecting...

That's why God told AMD in a dream to change the name to the Athlon 4. No, you shouldn't upgrade, that's perfectly a good waste of a good processor! If you want an upgrade, just build another machine!

i swear to God, can nobody spell Palomino correctly?

obviously I can't -=P (if you notice though, I just typed it wrong - like you've never done that)

@ 1GHZ you have plenty of proccessing power, now just start focusing on other system stuff.

You talk like you have pockets full of money if you want to spend $200 on a little increase. Get SCSI HD's and RAID them, get tons of RAM, and focus on other parts of the system.

ya no, i have a 450 mgz p3 and just now am i receiving slowdown in my games (enough to upgrade). u have a 1 gig, id love to have one of those. if u have slowdown, be my guest, upgrade, but i think itll be a waste of money

Stay with what you have...

Stay with what you have...

I wouldn't buy a new cpu until AMD starts releasing the Palomino. It'd be pointless to waste your money on a 1.4 gig and then spend more money on a Palomino, don't you think? Save your money or give it to me.

Perhaps in a few years, it depends on what you run. But even if you run the most heavy games with it. You'll have sufficient power for at least one year.
But hey it's your money!
I would be very happy with your system.

I have currently a PIII 550 with Radeon 64DDR. And i haven't got real problems. So don't waste your money!

Cheers
