So new game prices on PS5 and XSX are 80 bucks?

Is this because Sony and MS are charging more for royalties because they're not making much on the hardware this time around? To be honest games have fought off inflation for years.

Games have fought off inflation but I don't know many games doing physical copies anymore, especially PC games. With the move to digital that cut a lot of cost out.

$70 a pop per game means less game purchases. I find it amusing that it's always the AAA studios that push this crap, meanwhile they're the ones with the widest profit margin

with the trend to get more and more stuff digital people already use more key-selling-sites than in all the years before, with that new prices they will onl push even more people in that direction. I'm not sure if they realize what they are doing to their own sales on a greater timescale, but whatever.

I sure won't pay that kind of money for a game

Yeah I remember years ago when digital distribution was first starting everyone was saying how much cost could be saved and would keep games prices down. Guess that was all a lie.

Im constantly confused as why people think stuff like this. Theoretically something that can save costs should and would save costs, but we're always dealing with profit making engines....and if a "cost saving" measure is brought to the table, it always ends up becoming a "more profit" measure.

UAE always had higher prices for games than normal but it was about 70 bucks instead of the usual 60. Now for PS5 and XSX game prices I am seeing as high as 80-90 bucks for each game. This literally means for me that I will be using my contact to get me games at a reasonable cost or waiting for them to become available.

Is it the same in USA also? All game prices have increased to 70 or something? Wtf is this crap?

I don't know if it's a regional thing or a Sony thing...in Canada there are only 2 games that are $10 more for Xbox and that is Call of Doody and NBA 2k21. For PS5 there are several games that are $10 more

No that is Sony vs MS. Also because MS doesn’t seem to be repacking it’s games so you can buy an X1X game and get free upgrade to XSX. Whereas, Sony wants 10 extra for all upgrades.

There are several games, or game types that for me are worth the cost though.

If it's Souls-like/Nioh Like, or a massive game like HZD, I'll get more gameplay out of a single title with that than I will out of 4 r 5 other's that have no replay value.

Never thought I would have a real reason to be grateful for my game related ADD.

Basically, any game that has 10 hours of play, with no reason to want to replay it, is pretty damned expensive. I won't do that at $60, let alone $80. :)

Well, in theory since you cut out the retail middleman they could make just as much and pass the savings onto you.

Then they had a captive market and realized they didn't have to sell for less than retail.

Then they realized that they can charge more because... where else are you going to get it?

cdkeys or other such websites :bleh:

Hell you can even get xbox games these days on cdkeys.

Not an ethical or legitimate source though.

When it comes to CDKeys, it's a huge grey area for sure. Not ethical? I'd argue that there is a lot of ethical problems with any game you purchase directly from a store as well when it really comes down to it. Same can be said for the vast majority of products anywhere.

CDKeys is pretty legit when it comes to grey market selling, also they're bought from other regions and not from stolen goods like G2A etc

I work with tomatoes and even those are no where near ethical/morally sourced food. :p

OK, it's just silly comparing different consumer products, like food to game keys. Too many variables there. I doubt there's many sweat shops involved with gray market CD key sites.

But pertaining to keys (and nothing else) for this discussion the buying from different regions thing is what i was referring to about it being unethical. Those lower prices in other regions are put in place for specific reasons and should not be circumvented. For anyone who doesn't understand why there's plenty to read up online about it.
