The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

New patch fixed the stuttering for me to a large extent. I actually was able to finish a quest or 2. Getting 105 fps in Velen maxed out.

They need to reintroduce HBAO+ back, as the regular SSAO looks like crap and makes the non-RT version look worse than it used to.

That or maybe some one can make a mod to return AO to how it used to look. AMD's CACAO is open source, maybe that would be easier to mod in than trying to mod back in HBAO+.

*edit* This was posted else where to see the difference between SSAO and HBAO in The Witcher 3 before the patch

The game in unplayable maxed out? How are you guys able to play this? Hitching is happening randomly. It works fine and then hitches like crazy. Shelved.
It's either the new drivers causing this or games. Not sure what at this point.

I found setting the in game fps cap to 60 and using dlss frame generation results in a smooth 120fps. Cut scenes are still a bit choppy at times but gameplay is good.

The new patch fixed most of stuttering for me. I am using 4K DLDSR and getting 105 fps in Velen.

The Dec 19th one or the second patch of Dec 22nd? Because at the time of your post it could be the second patch if they released it at midnight at whatever time zone it was.

Downloaded the latest patch. Had a look around in the display settings, noticed NV reflex low latency was off. Thought that was on by default in most games? Anyway, set that to On + Boost and she runs much better now. It's not 100%, still get some jitters but it's now playable.

Wow, this game is like a brand new game. The improvements to combat are amazing. I boned a level ?? Basilisk and I am only level 13 or something. Seems I might indulge in this compared to Eldgen Ring nonsense I was thinking about restarting. Dope af.

Witcher 3 will definitely give you far more good story content compared to Elden Ring

Btw I figured out the constant hitching and which setting is causing it on my system. It is nVidia frame generation. It seems it requires for the game to load quite a few assets before it works properly. I have constant hitching everytime I start the game and for first 5-8 minutes there is hitching.

If I turn it off I lose almost half the FPS but then there is no hitching w/ DLSS + nVidia reflex on+boost. Using frame gen, the reflex is only on but no boost. So at least this is causing the issues in my rig. I am playing 4K DLDSR and that is also a possibility for the issues.

Either way, once game has been played for around 5 minutes or so things go back to normal and how I am able to do combat properly. Very annoying nonetheless.

Actually scratch that. Real issue was when you turn on frame gen vsync was on. I had to turn it off, turn off vsync and now with frame gen on it seemed to be better. Not 100% but a lot better. Will continue testing. Game like dope. Met Triss. Looked 100x better than the show. Not sure when I can bone her as I think in this playthrough I may have already boned Yen. :bleh:

Yeah I've defeated some really high level monsters. I don't think I was able to do this before. Not sure if I'm just better at combat or if the gear I have is that much better than it was when I first trudged around.

One thing I've noticed is trophies are near impossible to get. I only have two of them, both showed up in the first hour of gameplay (am almost 40 hours in now)..

I found setting a 60fps cap and then enabling frame generation is smooth, at around 120fps without hitching.

Combat is easier because of the better frame rates. Even on the PS5 with only 60 fps you can really dodge and attack far more effectively now. The quick sign capability is a huge benefit also. That fricken wheel is unusable. It used to be the main reason NOT to use a controller. I can completely recommend the game using a controller now.

Disagree. Both are excellent and roughly equal on story, lore and exploring. Excellent games.

Huh? I have close to 200 hours into Elden Ring and still can’t tell which NPC from another without watching multiple YouTube videos. Exploration and combat is great in Elden Ring and it’s my 2022 game of the year easily. But equal in story to W3? Is there even a real story in there? I dunno what you are talking about. I am in my third W3 play through and am still finding new story lines. I can’t, for the life of me, even remember anything concrete at all in Elden Ring. It’s still a great game though.

i also don't see Eldenring anywhere NEAR the depth storywise to Witcher. I wouldn't compare both titles at all, but that might be just me.

Guys, I didn't want to start a comparison war here. All I said was that this is dope af and Elden Ring is not!
