*Think* before posting...

Please add to this list of things that should be thought of "before" posting any support questions...

- update drivers!
- see the list of issues on review sites, etc that the Radeon has encountered with other hardware or any bugs it may have
- read other posts, they may have encountered that same problem and have fixed it somehow

any additions? (don't be too specific, be general)

Jarret, there is NO flame version of Radelon's post. Maybe you should read it again. I was very nice and straight to the point in my thread. I even said "I'm not trying to bash the guy called Radelon"

Sorry for any misunderstanding. I have even posted the URL to sharky's where i got the info. The same info that ATI tech support confirmed.

Alright sorry, it's just you both seem to have rational facts to support your cases, but this whole thing is kind of confusing.

Just like the OEM vs. RETAIL stuff

THANKS JARRET.

I AM POSTING THIS IN ALL 3 THREADS. SORRY FOR SHOUTING, BUT I HAVE TO STOP THE MADNESS.

JUST FOR THE RECORD: RADELON IS A GOOD GUY, AND I DID NOT MEAN TO FLAME HIM IN ANY WAY.

I AM JUST REPORTING WHAT I HAVE FOUND, READ, AND CONFIRMED AT SHARKY'S AND ATI.

THE ACTUAL NUMBERS ARE A BIT STRANGE, I ADMIT. BUT EVERYONE DOES SEEM TO CONFIRM THAT HYPER-Z IS ON.

AGAIN, NO FLAME MEANT TO RADELON.

PEACE!!

how about we get this issue cleared up for good !

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ATI Technologies\Driver\0001\atidxhal\

“FastZClearEnabled” =
“DisableHyperZ” =
“DisableHierarchicalZ” =

what should these settings be (1 or 0) for Hyper Z (and all it's magical features) to be enabled ? :)

and therefore, the opposite of those settings will in turn, diable Hyper Z (leaving you with a Rage128) haha j/k.

Please do not post any answers to this question unless you are 100% sure you are right. Don't post anything about how you just know that it's the way it should be even though it looks strange. Just get some information about this from a reliable source that has the answer and post it.

Thnx

Well, i cant say Sharky Extreme is always 100% right but they are usually reliable. I have also read the same thing at other places.

Sharky said that Hyper-Z is enabled, and can't be disabled by default. The guy at ATI tech support said the same thing. I put the link in the other thread to Sharky's.

As far as the numbers.....well my attitude has been since the card is amazing to me, and works fantastic, and the guys said that Hyper-Z is ON, then i wouldn't mess with any of the settings. That's just me though.

As far as the numbers "0" or "1", who the hell knows anymore, i give up on that one. hehe :)

Not that I want to further spur the conversation, but on my system that wasn't my default. My default was
DisableHierarchicalZ=1
None of the others were listed.

I changed the setting to what I agree should be default. If they are not listed in the reg I am not sure of the effect, so I manually added them. Take care and I will try to let you know the results.

This list "may" be compiled and used in our tech section for the website so try and get your input here!

one more addition...

- Delete ALL previous 3d card related files

Actually, i'll compile this list with the best ideas that will help general ppl solve their Radeon related problems.

Issues/fixes shouldn't be too specific here, because this should help everyone fix there problem 'genereally' among users.

Like a FAQ for example, so get your ideas in!
