Upgrading from another AMD to Navi? Do this!

Okay... So I remove drivers, shut down the PeeCee, remove the RX480,
pop in the RX 5700 (Pulse). Fire everything up and re install 20.2.2 while
choosing reset everything...

Oh boy... Freesync monitor not recognized.
Fan at zero speed even though I set up a fan curve profile.
Crash in game (once, do NOT use adaptive sync).

Overall bad experience.

So, do this:

Uninstall radeon software from Programs.
Uninstall radeon from computer manager, specify to delete driver.
Download DDU driver removal tool from here:
https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2747
CLICK ON OFFICIAL DOWNLOAD. Freggin' multiple download buttons...
Reboot in safe mode by tapping F8.
Run DDU with restart.
After restart, check that in Computer Manager you have generic VGA driver.
Install 20.2.2 from scratch.

Holy cow what a difference...
Now EVERYTHING works as it should.
Was able to set up fan curve.
Played a few games without issues.
Freesync monitor works great.

Hope this helps people avoid headaches :D

Yeah, that's good to hear you got it sorted out.

BTW, if you are running third party such like MSI afterburner, hwinfo, etc in the background apps. Always closed them and unchecked for startup option before you uninstall the driver and then DDU, etc....also always select the factory reset option during installing the driver too...

I had actually removed afterburner as I was fiddling with Adrenaline's tuning so it's all good.
But it's a good point to remove it before a driver overhaul.

5700 is a great card though. The game I run is chocked by the CPU (8350)
but it is cool. I will try to flash the other BIOS with a 5700 XT.

If you are still on a 8350. I would wait for Zen 3. It should be worthy upgrade and a big jump.

Welp, I was going for an x570 to get PCi 4 and get a 3600 which is quite affordable.

Then, in 1-2 years, pop in a 4700X or something...

I build my current system in 2012 so I do get a LOT of mileage out of them :D
