Wait for AMD to make its Big Navi move before you buy the Nvidia RTX 3080

Just another Troll
"The actual graphics cards that come out of RDNA 2 will likely be way more powerful than what ends up going into the gaming consoles. AMD has already said that it's going to be competing with Nvidia at the high end – maybe not as high end as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 – so it's very possible that whatever top-end graphics card AMD launches will actually put some pressure on Nvidia.

If AMD can launch a graphics cards that tackles the the RTX 3080 at 4K, or even outperforms it at the same price, anyone who buys an RTX 3080 might feel a little burned."

Doubtful that amd can compete on the high end with nvidia. They always underperform plus the issue with the drivers. But having said that I wish I was wrong and they finally release something better like when they released ati 9700pro back in the day

The smart move would be to wait for AMD to release big navi and then purchase one or the other but......

They got to give people a reason to wait, people gossiping on twitter doesn't cut it.

Also, I'm never buying an AMD gpu again if they unveil it through fortnite.

I just don't know why you would unveil your high-end GPU in a game like Fortnite that looks like absolute trash even on max

The most optimistic view I can think of is if AMD truly hits 2X RDNA performance levels with 50% power efficiency. They could beat a 3080 by 5%, include 16GB of VRAM, at about 310 watts. Then they would have to design a card themselves that can handle 310 watts effectively. If the stars aligned properly and they achieved all of this which is possible and sold it for $600....That would be significant. Nonmatter how you look at it AMD would be offering a card capable of 4k 60FPS averages with extra VRAM at a lower price.

I can't buy AMD because I use IRAY but even if I didn't, I still have serious doubts about AMD's driver stability as well as it's RTX ability. That 5% lead could turn into a 15% loss in games like Cyberpunk 2077 and DLSS could allow Nvidia to run 4K like resolution with 1440P FPS, giving them another advantage. AMD has had trouble in the past with graphic card design. It's usually their 3rd party AIB partners that make cards that don't overheat.

The bottom line is that they need to show us something before the 17th if they want anyone to take them seriously. If Nvidia runs out of GPU's there will probably still be a large pool of gamers left waiting around when the AMD cards come out though. IF the stars align just right and AMD manages to launch their cards within a decent time frame. They are clearly running late as it is.

What's the big rush anyway? Waited this long. Just another couple months and then all the cards are on the table.

And the real smart move would be to wait to see what is Nvidia's response to RDNA2. Those who buy an RDNA2 card might be burned...

But wait, the REAL smart move would be to wait what would be AMD's response to Nvidia's response to what was AMD's response.

But wait wait.....

According to Igor Labs there will be no Big Navi AIB cards for three months WTF. I'm never buying another AMD reference card after the blower disaster of the Vega 64 I bought.

I also purchased the reference Radeon VII card with a twin axial fan and when I saw the reviews that it was like a jet engine taking off I cancelled my order immediately.

My Sapphire 5700XT is a great card but the 3080 will stomp all over it so I'll buy that and give my 5700XT to my son as a nice upgrade from his RX580 card. That way everyone is a winner.

But wait wait.....
We're talking a couple months here not waiting 1-2 years for the next major release lol

Yes it was not a quiet card. It was not a jet engine if you had decent airflow in the case and took a little time to undervolt it. A liquid cooled version like what we saw with Vega 64 would have been welcome.

Did pretty well with mine, sold for nearly what I paid on launch day. Lost about $200 before fee bay fees selling my 2080TI a couple months ago too. It's a lot easier to "time the market" in GPUs vs. equities lol

I agree, that's why I upgrade when I need to and buy the best available at the time. We have been waiting 2 years since the RTX series came out and people like me have been waiting 4 years because we didn't like what the RTX series was offering for the price. I believe most gamers will not wait because they want to upgrade now and they will buy the best available to them at the this time. There will always be something better on the horizon. AMD needs to compete directly with Nvidia, not wait another 3 to 6 months to avoid direct competition. If they actually have something then they need to launch it.

One should wait until all cards are on the table.

But people who pretend to be neutral know that they will never buy an AMD card no matter how good it turns out.

My suggestion to the real undecideds is to wait.

If AMD puts out a card that is faster with more VRAM that directly competes with Nvidia, I can guarantee you that people will buy it. If they wait 3 months then they are not directly competing. People could wait 3 months after the AMD card launch to buy Nvidia TI and super variants that will outperform AMD and it will go on and on. AMD has been saying "just wait" for so long it's starting to become their moto. It's pointless to wait. They either actually compete against Nvidia or they don't.

Cards will be available September 17th. You're asking people to wait 2 months for what AMD might bring, just because of promised specs and hopes. The last time that happened with Vega 64 and Radeon 7 how'd that go. I would image the chagrin of those who actually do wait 2 months and to see it happen a third time and end up buying a 3080 anyway.

Also, I tend to believe Nvidia still has more reserve for performance and pricing strategy, while AMD has no choice but put all of its card on the table. In other words, Nvidia will have a response to Big Navi (if needed) but AMD won't have a response to Nvidia's response.

So you think if RDNA2 beats the 3080 in price/performance Nvidia will wait 1-2 years to respond?
Maybe. Just speculation on our part, we don't have a crystal ball to tell when any type of response might happen and what that response would look like. Regardless, it's a 2 month wait to see what the other company's architecture can or cannot do and at what price point. If you don't want to hold off for a couple more months then go right ahead, it's your money. :)

Why wait if you aren’t going to buy an AMD card anyway. You lose RTX, DLSS, Gsync, and stability in drivers. There is no reason to buy AMD even if it has slightly faster performance. It will also run hotter and consume similar amount of power.

Thats a bit conservative 7nm+ euv is a lot better than samsung 8nm. Some leakers indicate amd will hit 250w at what nvidia gets for 320w leaving room either for efficiency or higher clocking headroom. If amd uses that headroom to go for 300W they get 2.2-2.3 ghz and 15% ahead of 3080 for less power along with having more vram.

Dlss to me isnt enough vs RIS to warrant a gpu purchase on its own but RT may well be. We'll have to wait to see on that note.
