What is allowing this?

New member
So new monitor, and 2070. Why can I now select 4k content (games, YT, etc) on my new 1440p monitor? Is that what DLSS is allowing me to do? Before on the old 1080p monitor I could only select 1080p.

Also why am I limited to 60 FPS at 4k with HDR enabled, is that a DP restriction?
 
For games, if you enable DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution) in Nvidia CP you can select a higher resolution depending on the DSR option(s) selected and it will use its mojo to produce great IQ on your 1440p monitor (i.e. down sample 4k/ your choice of DSR resolution to 1440p). I have been able to do this for ages now and I only have a lowly 1080ti

As for YouTube, I have always been able to select 4K even if my display was not capable of supporting 4K display. I assume it is 4k being downsampled to whatever is my panel's display resolution.

Interesting I've never been able to do it on my 980 ti with the 1080p monitor. I meant DSR not DLSS I figured that was doing all of it. Good to know though, thanks.

980 Tis support DSR. Perhaps the option was enabled by default somehow or you enabled it and didn't notice.
 
Your NV driver is set to GPU scaling so your display only ever sees its native resolution. The card will automatically up or downsample the output to match.
