12nm polaris 30 rumours

15% speed bump?

Jesus ****ing christ why even bother AMD. useless garbage

Well, to be fair it would put the 580 on par with the Fury X and decisively faster than the 1060. It would still be 15% short of Vega 56 and the 1070 though.

Low end at 300$ ?
Maybe with the TI at 1200$ now the definition of low end just changed unoficially ?

Low end is more like $100 or so, maybe up to $150. Midrange is like $200-$300. But for people buying $800 GPUs I guess everything else is low. ;)

yea there is nothing like a 30% speed bump for 1200 bucks :hmm:

this is low end stuff but it does make money

15% speed bump over a rx580 is absolutely awful after what, 18 months of the 580 being out? 30% over a 1080TI even at $1200 is easier to understand.

I understand it’s NV bash time but you can’t tell me this isn’t pathetic considering how long Polaris 20 has been out. This is a joke. Why bother wasting the money developing this chip if it’s 15% faster making it equal to what .. a 1060? A 1070?

I need AMD to figure it out and start putting out cards that don’t suck. This is just another shitty card that is DOA.

The point of pushing out product refreshes is to keep the major OEMs like Dell and HP happy. They want this year's PC to have bigger model numbers than last year's PC because bigger numbers = more better for the average consumer.

My point is that 15% increase over Polaris 20 is unacceptable considering the performance of the RX580 left a lot to be desired as it was. I understand the point of product refreshes but refreshing an architecture that was already mediocre to begin is just ... frustrating. NV is bending the entire GPU market over and AMD is giving us 15% performance increases on a GPU that was slower and used more power than the competition to begin with. The hell?

The one thing that might pull this thing out of the bag is that fabbing at TSMC vs GF might make the RX 680 run that much cooler and faster. Might be a good ocer. Maybe they tweaked the design to focus for much better thermals. Being an established design it might have been an easier thing to do.

I remember reading GF 14nm vs TSMC 16nm and how TSMC was so much better for heat and clocks.

Maybe an AIB oced ver can do 30% above the RX 580. They sell that for 200$ Im there.

Id like to see Gddr 5X as well vs just the Gddr5 in current cards. And if they can push it that far maybe itll have basic shader based RT at a much better price point than the 2070. It already has ~50% more shaders than the 1060 so...

Why can't AMD do both things right at the same time?
First it was GPU's for the longest time while the CPU's kind of sucked.
Now its the other way.

The AIB cards were selling for almost $300 on the RX580, like the Sapphire Nitro+ and all that. Pretty sure they were $279-299 at release. At those prices .. meh. I know GF was garbage and I was one of the first people to say “finally” when AMD announced going back to TSMC, but I don’t think it will cause miracles. Bad design is bad design.

Nunz ... can you come with your mind in 2018 for 1 second...
AMD is focusing on CPU side ... The vast majority of the market is fed by up to 300$ segment...I bought Vega 56 at the same price as a gtx1060 // rx580 with the mining craze ... A 15% increase in performance for the 1080p segment is ok to keep with the new games... Even 1080p becomes demanding from the new games...15% to compensate that and the same price...What's the moaning ?

Excuse after excuse for poor release after poor release. This is getting tiring. We need AMD to release cards that will bring competition into the market, not barely beat a card that has been out for over 2 years.

I’m sick of hearing about “AMD was focusing on the CPU market” .. just another garbage excuse for terrible architectures.

The Polaris 30 could be better than 15%. If it’s closer to 40% in the $300 max segment then I will eat crow, but I have no faith anymore. AMD has disappointed over and over and over in the dGPU market. I’ve never seen people make so many excuses for a company that has failed consumers time and time again.

Then buy nvidia ... AMD is in this situation at 25 september 2018 ...Accept this and move on.Do you think suddenly AMD will play in 4k 144hz arena at 2080ti performance because of 5 angry people. It's their choice and internal business. If they don't consider feasible now they will not release...

AKA

you want AMD to make the NVidia card you want and will only buy cheaper

we are not going to see a high end card out of AMD this year
unless they have been sandbagging Vega 20 and it will do gaming very well
but I don't think so they may get it to 1080 ti speed but not 2080 ti

I for one can wait and want them to take the time they need to make a card that very good and is something I will buy
be it next year or 2020

I want a FreeSync monitor, so I want an AMD card. I want a new GPU to go with a 1440P 165Hz monster. I don’t want to pay GSync tax either.

I’m planning on an AMD card, not NV

ok

but we have to wait .

they did the CPU first and that needed doing also and for longer

When will the next-gen AMD Navi graphics cards launch? We’re betting on an early 2019 release date for the new Radeon GPUs
