12nm polaris 30 rumours

~50-100% perf uplift over the 480 really?

It stomps the 1060 though. It's even as fast as a 1060 in UE4 (Overwatch) which sucks on AMD.

Underwhelming imo.
The intersting thing is both GamersNexus and Hardware unboxed had the same card for testing.

you get the 3 games with a RX 590 or above (vega)

you get the choice of 2 of the games with a RX 580 or RX 570

so not bad at all.

Yeah it's pretty underwhelming. Doesn't clock much higher so it's barely faster, and no improvement in power usage either. I'm not sure what to think about this, except maybe the "12 nm" shrink isn't going to amount to much. If that's true it's bad news across the board.

Also that review helped remind me that both the RX580 and 1060 are painfully slow. I think the 1070/Vega 56 is still the sweet spot for anyone not on a serious budget.

The problem with those games is 1) You have to want them; and 2) if you just wait 6-12 months you'll be able to get them for $10 each. So basically unless it's an immediate play the value adds up to a lot less than it looks on paper.

Im more curious about the ram ocing on the saphirre see how much a diff it makes and then we can wonder if they should have gone with gddr5x....

If they can bring that price down under 250$ it might be a half dcent buy. I like my XFX GTR rx480 a lot.

If it hits ~200$ in the next month or 2 on sale like the 580 is now its a no brainer for low budget.

Shame they didn't include faster ram overall on the 590 I honestly think they cheaped out in that regard. Imagine a 7nm polaris? say pushing towards gtx levels of clock speed (2000 mhz) with some fast ram, I wonder how that would perform. 1070 levels?

Nice to see the branding back at least, glad Nvidia gpp is dead.

Thats cool. High price on the asus tho. Wonder also if XFX will cherry pick some gpus and make another GTR version. Took some time for the GTR ver to come out back then as well tho.

Would be cool to see some people put it on water as well and see how that ocs.

$369 for the STRIX? lol they're out of their minds.

The Nitro+ SE is $279 ..

I doubt a shrink to 7nm will do much more than drop power consumption. GCN just doesn't like to clock that high.

Not sure its a GCN issue as there multiple reports of vega not having been optimized for speed while they worked on ryzen. Thta might extend ot polaris... Also polaris has a lot more shaders than the 1060.

1280 vs 2304 almost double. Tranny count 4.4 billion vs 5.7 billion on polaris.

Navi on 7nm will be interesting to see if they go for core clock or higher transistor/shader count again.

I realized this was only the "12 nm" shrink (I was confused and half thinking 7 nm for some reason), so now I'm not as surprised that there was barely any performance improvement. Ryzen 2000 series was also only about 10% faster.

If they can get their GPUs at TSMC it may be a nice boost. All of their GloFo stuff just seems to not hit that high of clocks either with Ryzen or Vega. Forcing them to parity with their competitors seems to just make things space heaters....

I'm hoping the new foundry cuts down the clock advantages of their competitors.
