Anyone folding the new Core_17 WU...

Oh wow, when does this start?

I haven't seen a change yet and I have been on core17 for a while.

Still running core 16 here at work, i'll have to check home in a little bit.

This will auto download when it's fully released right?

From what I've gathered it will be "soon". I would guess by the end of the month or early April. The dude coding the core (Proteneer) still has bugs to fix in the current Core_17 all the while he's updating the core to support the new OpenMM 5.1 (which hasn't even been released yet). No easy task I would say.

Really looking forward to the increased performance though.

Yep... The current Core_17 is still beta and this will be upgraded and put back into beta. It's probably going to be a couple of months maybe until it's released to the unwashed masses. :-)

Awesome, thanks.

Looking forward to it

Sigh, all of a sudden I seem to be getting a lot of the old core 16 wu's..was getting used to all those extra points :p

Yep... there is a folding team (I think it the EVGA team) that is having it's regular "Chimp Challenge" right now - it's a team competition to see who can get the most points and that team is huge. This time they have turned on the beta flag for the GPU's. They are sucking up all the 7662 WU's.

But the internal testing team for the newer faster Core_17 is making good progress - but only in Linux right now. Right now there is no newer faster Core_17 for Windows. :(

Still hoping that in 2 or 3 weeks there will be a beta of this new core. You will be amazed by the performance (as long as the points mirrors the processing power of the core). :D

I remember the Chimp challenge had no idea it's running now.

I didn't know the new core was Linux only ..Is it Nvidia only or does that mean we might actually fold with on the gpu with AMD too? That would be sweet !
Even with Win 8's better scheduling for the FX 8350 I still think Linux handles it better. I'd dual-boot again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the update, either way I'm looking forward to those new cores :D

The new Core_17 for Linux works on both NVIDIA and AMD but it seems that the AMD Linux drivers are not good and the performance isn't what it should be.

I would really like to see the Windows version so I can do an apples to apples compare of the speed increase. Between Windows old core and Linux new core on the same hardware my TPF drops from 3:40 to 1:55. Not exactly 2x the performance but pretty damn close. :D

Alpha test of new core in Linux pretty close to complete I think.

Alpha test of new core in Windows started last night.

To give an example of the balls this core has I have been running at about 28K PPD for each of the GTX 670's I'm folding on. With the new core and new WU I'm now getting over 71K PPD for each 670. Note that these points are estimated and this WU's hasn't officially been bench marked yet. But still... that's a ton of points.

Unfortunately there is a MAJOR bug of some kind with the AMD Windows drivers and right now the only AMD GPU's that can fold are from the 7000 series and even with that there are errors right now. Reports are that a single 7970 is pulling down over 110K PPD!

It's starting to look very good for the future of GPU folding for sure.

Sweet I can't wait..my ppd and more importantly my total wu's per day took a big hit with the loss of the 7662's
Right now my old 6950 at stock speeds almost edges my 7970's oc'ed to GHZ speed.

Still doing the internal testing of the new core. They seems to be playing with the points now which I don't understand.

From what I've read the Pande group is moving to an equal points for equal work points system. If you run FAHBench you can see that a GPU can fold circles around a CPU - even a multiprocessor rig folding Bigadv (against a high end GPU liek a 7970 or 680).

I feel that this new Core_17 has been better at folding than they thought it would be and they are working on how to implement it without pissing off the folks that have spent thousands on building Bigadv rigs.

The latest estimate PPD for my HD6950 is about 124K with the new core. I would like it if they would actually benchmark this new 7663 WU like they have with the current WU's so we can do an actual compare of the PPD's.

But in the end I'll for sure take an HD6950 pulling down 124K PPD. :D

Man glad to hear it's inching closer. I did read a bit about a new points system makes sense in a lot of ways.
I have run several versions of FAHBench before. The current gui versions only pick up my main 7970 the secondary 7970 isn't listed but the numbers do look good.

That's an astounding number for a HD6950, mine wasn't faring so well with the 7662's if I remember right the tpf was over 6 minutes compared to 3:40ish for my 7970's.

 if the numbers were to hold I'd be pulling down close to 500k ppd between my 2 7970's and my 6950

Core_17 is back in beta with Project 7663. The points are much lower then the alpha test though. But, I'm very interested to see what an HD7970 can pull down. :D

Thanks, just noticed it this morning..TPF is 2:23 and 2:20 ..projected ppd is 47-49k per..we'll see how that translates for a full day :)

:hmm: That seem pretty low for a 7970. There are 7970's running at 1100MHz that are getting over 110K. I would estimate the your 7970's should be getting 80K or 90K each PPD.

What drivers are you running? Or maybe they are throttling due to heat?

Drivers are 13.3 beta with the 2.7 sdk. cards are clocked to 1100 core 1500 memory temps are 58c and 56c respectively..cards are not crossfired. I have the cpu smp currently set at 4 as well.

I don't recall any of the internal testers needing to install the older SDK. All they did was use the latest 13.4 drivers. And for sure... at those clocks you should be pulling down way higher PPD.
