Battlefield 5 RTX impressions

Jay appears to be mightily impressed with RTX on in Battlefield 5. In fact he was impressed with RTX Low thinking it was on Ultra.

His reaction at 11:20 was exactly as mine.

Imho,

The technology is impressive but may need a lot more maturity and efficiency to me but certainly glad nvidia is creating awareness and willing to tackle this ability. It's a tough sell for a 1199 gpu to receive the low framerate in the single player at 1080p. Hopefully with driver updates and patches from developers may improve efficiency and quality.

Agreed. Also, it now has me thinking about the fact that not all reflective surfaces are the same level of cleanliness or polish. For example, cars in games are always the same but really, you should have thousands of variations of cleanliness and polish randomly on cars and some paint should be matte and some windows should be dirty and so on. Now we need random procedurally generated dirt and pollen and such that is effected by the surrounding environment..................

JK but the fact that that would be the next step is saying something.

That's just the portions of that one particular level with all the leaves blowing around. Also, I was able to run that portion at 2x dsr max settings on a 1080p monitor and get closer to 60fps if i remember right.

It was good to see the developers and nvidia admit the performance and quality issues and may be addressed with patches and driver updates.

"According to Nvidia, RTX 2080 Ti owners will now be able to run Battlefield 5 at 1440p at over 60fps, using the DXR ultra preset. "

There's some massive improvements in that video. 30's before and 71 fps after on RTX Ultra without sacrificing quality. All at 1440p.

I though I read DICE had coded their own effects. Maybe NV did a better job of it?

"Our latest GeForce Game Ready driver works in concert with the Battlefield VTM: Tides of War Chapter 1: Overture update to improve DXR Ray Tracing performance by up to 50%.

In addition, it also includes support for Just Cause 4, Insurgency: Sandstorm, and World of Warcraft: Battle For Azeroth’s upcoming DirectX 12 performance optimizations.

To download and install, simply fire up GeForce Experience and click the "Drivers" tab."

Performance tested with new patch.

Right off the bat, just looking at 4k the performance is massively improved. The game is more than playable at 4k now with everything Ultra if someone wanted to play the single player campaign at 4k with ray tracing on.

And of course, 1440p performance is right out the park. Fast enough even for multiplayer.

Not too long ago the usual haters were harping on the fact ray tracing could only be used at 1080p. Now we're at 70+ fps at 1440p and almost nearly 50fps at 4k with RTX Ultra.

Damn near 60 fps switching to RTX Medium or Low, which is also still visually impressive.

NV sure showed the naysayers up at least with Battlefield 5. Now we just need other games where you don't die every 10 seconds. :bleh:
