Dead Space Remake

Is this only on EA Play Pro or also on EA play for 10 hours. It’s a 12 hour game so I am sure I can bone it in 10 with easy difficulty? Tell me how it is.

Early impressions are the pc port is not that great of a looker compared to the ps5. I really don't like how developers are continually neglecting to include current console gen upgrades into the pc ports. I have origins, so i guess i get to play it after all.

Which features are the pc version missing?

It has RTAO, DLSS/FSR, and HDR, so nothing seems to be missing.

It's not on the EA play basic subscription. But even if it were, they typically they put a blocker up preventing completion (lets you play the 10 hours but not progress beyond a story moment)

Also I'm pretty sure the PC version is like for like with the console versions.

Game is out. Fired it up and played a little. Runs well at 4K DLSS Quality with all settings maxed. Some random hitching here and there though. Running on the newest Nvidia drivers. Did run into what looks like a bug though maybe? Right when I went to go pick up the first weapon and the mini scene started the framerate absolutely tanked to a slideshow and remained that way after. For giggles I went into the settings and changed it from fullscreen to borderless. Framerate went back to normal after that. Will have to see if it happens again or not.

The game pegs the GPU at 100% with an "uncapped" framerate. My 3080 was hitting 80C. I capped the framerate to 60 in the Nvidia control panel and it's now hovering in the 80-90% range and temps are around 60C.

[edit] Game is still shitting the bed during in-game cutscenes. Drops to single digit FPS  Looks like a common problem. Will wait for them to patch it. Glad I didn't pay full price for this, lol

I haven’t checked usage, but I’m hitting 55ish c @ 4k with everything maxed and frame rate mostly around 80 fps. If I set DLSS to performance it still looks great and bumps the performance to 100ish or so.

A lot of attention to detail went into this. The environment and atmosphere are insanely good looking on OLED and plenty tense all the time. The 3d audio is fantastic.

I’m a little over 2 hours in and haven’t seen any performance issues so far, no stutters, no frame drops etc. So far it’s the most satisfying game I’ve played in a long time.

fwiw I’m running the latest drivers > 528.24

Looks like the game and/or newest drivers have some kind of weird power management bug. Was reading up on the problem over at the discussion forums on Steam (and having to wade through mountains of back-and-forth crap  ) and someone mentioned setting the power management mode for the game to "prefer maximum performance" in the Nvidia control panel. That seems to have fixed the slideshow FPS during cutscenes. The game still has all kinds of random stutter and hitching though. Hopefully they can fix all these issues.

Feeling this game but some of the texture work and omgrafix don't seem like a 2023 era game. Lack of RTX proper is disappointing as well. Gameplay seems dumbified and I am not even feeling scared. Doesn't capture the atmosphere of the first game. I give it a 7/10 based on 45 mins I played.

No performance issues as well. Maybe only nubs have those lol. :bleh:

I'm not seeing any stuttering or hitching in-game or during cutscenes. I'm on a 4080 with DLSS set to Quality and graphics set to ultra. It's been smooth so far. The game is drop dead (no pun intended) gorgeous. I hope they remake the sequels.

Finished it. Loved it. Felt true to the original but with enough changes to the story. Did all the side missions and most add a bit more story content but some blend the OG content with them. There are also some level design changes, like near the crew quarters. zero-g is fully 3d although you can't land on any surface like in the OG sadly. Game was pretty easy on Medium until about chapter 5 or so then it was an okay challenge but nothing hard. Took me 15 hours but I took my time (OG was 11 hours long)

Playing NG+ now and it's easier with all weapons and upgrades. The phantom necromorphs are just tougher than regular ones with pinkish skin and red eyes. Might switch to hard to add a bit more challenge. There is also a new EDF suit on NG+ that gives more armor. It's like 99k credits

There are some changes to the story. See below

1. Hammond isn't found at the start of hydroponics, Elizabeth cross's AR message is there first and she's also alive and helps you kill the wheezers

2. Hammond doesn't get killed by a brute on the Valor. NecroChen comes in and stabs hammond who pushes them both into the singularity core where they explode

3. Mercer doesn't get killed on video, he gets killed by the tendril thing just after killing the hunter with the jet engine.

4. Just before the end, Kendra takes Nicole hostage, but this turns out to be Elizabeth Cross who Isaac saw as Nicole. Kendra then kills Elizabeth

Gameplay / Level changes

1. You do a whole lot less moving objects with the force power. In the loading bay the marker moves automatically and you just active bridges / kill things. Same for the surface of the planet, Same for the cargo bay. I get why but to be honest I think the OG dragging fits better with the world lore.

2.. The area near the crew quarters is significantly different. There's a large open area with growth that you have to destroy in the side rooms--you fight the Regen Hunter here, parts of this existed on the OG but a good chunk is new / jumbled

3. All the power rerouting is new. Usually it just means you have to cycle to access a door. To be honest they could have done a lot more with it.

4. The inside of the Valor (rescue ship) is basically 75% new, including the nuclear missile malarkey, the shooting course and side rooms. I think the OG's version was basic and unfinished, here it's really fleshed out.

Same here at 1440P, same settings, on a 2080 Ti. RTAO enabled.

There’s a good chance they’ll at least do the 2nd game. There’s a secret ending for NG+ that ties Isaac in from the USG Ishimura to the events at the beginning of DS2 Thought you might like to know :)

edit: Finished this tonight. It’s my new Gold Standard for remakes.

Seems everyone seems to be hyping this game as it is best thing since sliced bread. I am on Chapter 3 and still feel it is a big letdown. It feels like a 2015-2017 era game and not really a 2023 game. Of course I will finish it but there is so little motivation. Yesterday night I wanted to play but instead ended up chatting with my friend for 1 hour and also watching Last of Us Ep 3 (which sucked horse shite btw) but didn't touch this game. :bleh:

2015 was the last great year in gaming so this is high praise *shrug*

For me this remake is better than 95% of games in the last 5 years. But I did love the original so might be biased.
