Foundation

8 episodes in and I’d say the series is good. I am definitely more engaged in the overall story and characters. It’s an interesting story mechanic they use to maintain continuity on a story that looks like it will last several centuries. There are a lot of interesting and open questions that still need answering. I never read the book so not sure how true to that the series is. But, I am enjoying it.

The books are very different in that the decay of the empire is almost just background stuff. I can see why the empire needed to be personified but in doing so, none of that is in the books (which means a whole 2 eps at least is made up). They are doing a good job of it with that as it fleshes out the empire so I'm cool with that. The other continuity maintainer plot line Gaal/Seldon better go somewhere, otherwise I feel that whole thing could've just been replaced with narration (though that would mean a whole lot less Jared Harris).

Been a long time since I've read the books, but

If memory serves, Seldon was dead.... not a computer/Ai/Afterlife guy. The whole POINT was that he understood psychohistory well enough to have specific prerecorded messages available for specific inflection points in the timeline, not that he can tweak things as it goes along.

Not a fan of this change (assuming that I'm remembering things correctly) as it seems to cheapen him in the prophet role.

You remember correctly but they might be doing this to personify Second Foundation like they are doing with Empire. Yes it cheapens his prophet role but then again Second Foundation was created to tweak things in secret. If I remember correctly in the books Second Foundation just pops out of nowhere and I wish they did that in the show as this plot line really messes up with the flow of the show .

Loved the show but am a bit disappointed in the ending. I have so many questions. I want season 2 right now. Wtf is this?

I only have one good thing to say about the ending and that is at least it wasn't some huge cliff. I'll watch season 2 whenever it comes out but meh.

The Dynasty storyline alone was worth it for me. I'll also watch S2....in '23?

The story is so big and occurs over such a wide timeline. Season 1 only put some of the pieces in play. It’ll be interesting, having not read the books, to see what has changed after such a long period of time passed. Sort of a shame that some of the characters will not be back in season 2 as only the primary characters, in one form or another, move forward through time.

A couple of good series out now that it’ll be way too long to wait for the next season. Hopefully they can cut down the production time because 18-24 months is way too long to wait between seasons!

That said, final season of The Expanse is almost here!!

I really enjoyed this show, and can't wait for season 2. Loving this free apple tv I got with the new iphone. I may actually subscribe to it long term if they keep putting out good shows.

Well I'm about halfway through season 2 and the show seems to be meandering a bit. I get the narrative reason for keeping a core set of characters around through huge expanses of time but some of the mechanics of it seems pretty contrived.

I'm finally getting to the good part, this show has a real slow burn issue. Some of it is starting to pay off but we'll see if it sticks the landing. I still have issues with all the contrivances keeping the core characters around.

Well finished this season of Foundation. Other than my usual complaints about this show the landing was decent. Will watch it to the end despite it all.
