GameCube DVD player

Its silver, its small and have a blue led on top... japan will LOVE it :)

but i already got a dvd, and i dont want to wait until 2002 to get a gamecube so..

I have a DVD player to and i am gonna get the simple GameCube but i am happy that a GameCube DVD will be reality!

I'll pass and get the smaller Gamecube in Nov.

I have a DVD player and I agree with Nintendo: focus the hardware and software on games. Don't worry about DVD playback.

I agree totally. A games machine should be desinged for games only. Besides, a stand-alone DVD player is much better than any cut-down player you'll get in a console anyway

Buy a Radeon

Buy a Radeon

I agree,,, Screw Having a dvd player on a console. I mean thats great, it's another feature,, but how often do you even play music cd's in your consoles,, never. Plus,, half you guys got Radeons with tv out/dvd. so stop bickering. Look at it this way, Nintendo = Ati of,,, X-box = Evil Nvidia. Buy The CUBE!!

I think it's also pretty pointless to have a DVD player integrated with a console like PS2, X-Box because many people already own one. Plus, you usually want to play games on large screen TV's and most homes only have one. People also want to watch DVD's on a large screen so they have it hooked up to the large TV. Uh oh. Two DVD players connected with one TV. You have to take the DVD player out and use it with a smaller TV. Bull sh**!

Remember, a console's success does not depend on the specs. It may have a big impact on people's opinions on the system before the console even comes out and how it affects the games, but it's the games that make a console sucessful.

I'm thinking of holding off for the DVD version. I have a DVD player...I don't care about that. What I'm thinking is that with that version, it will take full-sized disks. See where I'm going with this? :D We shall see...

Not really. Seeing as the mini dvd unit will far outsell the full dvd unit I can't conceive of any games that will be on the full size dvd, it would be marketing suicide. Also how many gig's do you need to make a great game? compare it to PC games, so far I believe Diablo2 is one of the largest at 1.6 gigs easily storable on a mini dvd, not to mention dvd's can be double sided!

Percuvius...

You're not thinking what I'm thinking. Think harder. I'm thinking that I can only afford to buy the most elite games, but would still like to own more games through other means... Get it now?

The Panasonic DVD GameCube isn't going to be released until Nov. in Japan for about $325. The price seems high to me but consoles are always more expensive there. Word seems to be that the American DVD version will be out sometime in 1st quarter 2002 for about the same price as the PS2

I think adding a DVD player makes for a great option on a console. My friend got a PS2, and since it includes a DVD player, he now watches DVD's. For some, they might not use it, but others will, so it's a good option to have.

I just need a HDTV that will take advantage of the GameCube's 480p component output...anyone wanna give me one? I'll give you my two sisters for a trade (23 & 21) :D :D :D

You'll still be able to pirate, just like you can buy mini cdr's
you'll be able to buy mini dvdr's (right now dvd recordables are too expensive and so are the burners)

I'm sure there's people out there that can pirate anything but the GameCube's proprietary 1.5GB mini-DVD disks won't be very easy or mainstream like regular CDs or even DVDs

No, because it's not actually a DVD that the GameCube uses. It uses a different file format. It would be a lot more difficult to mod the GameCube so it will read the standard DVD format.

With the one that plays regular DVDs, it would probably be a lot easier to trick the system into playing a copied game. Still not easy, but possible. I think there's a good chance that somebody will figure out a way to read the proprietary format (like they did with Dreamcast), copy it, and come up with a way to trick the sytem into playing the copied one.

If it's a different file format then even a regular dvd won't work, besides pirated games will come out on the mini dvd. If they can do it on a cartridge I'm sure they'll do it here too.

It could work on the DVD version, because it would know how to read a regular DVD. Dreamcast uses a different file format, but it can read regular CDs, so people were able to trick it.

I'm sure that you'll be able to buy pirated games for the regular GameCube, but it will probably be possible to download games for the DVD version.
