Hurricane Ian (Category 4) taking aim on Florida

Ft. Myers is going to get the snot kicked out of it.

High tide is at 3PM too.

Jesus.

I thought Tampa was about to get the brunt of this but I guess it's "better" that it's going at Ft Myers? We're talking about like 100k people versus 3M so this almost feels like a bullet dodged.

Borderline CAT 5.

Lots of lighting surrounding the eye means the damn thing is strengthening on the way in. Moreover it means the winds around the eye are SLAMMING down to the deck.

Then we have the high tide at 3 PM.

I mean if you're evil and on Team Hurricane this is like the best possible thing you could wish for.

Yeah. Sorry if it sounded like I was suggesting this was no big deal. This hurricane is a monster. I suspect will end up proving to be the biggest disaster to Florida since Hurricane Andrew.

The thing I'm looking for is the rain levels and surge damage. Wind yeah, is a pain in the ass but it doesn't hold a candle to the damage of water.

Tampa is going to be flooded and the surge in Ft. Meyers, Jesus I don't even want to think about it.

Might not be the most dangerous in terms of life but property damage, oh yeah.

I'm just happy as hell I don't own a home in Florida anymore, after selling my rental property last year.

I'm going to need it to move slower through the south. My Saturday wedding is crazy elaborate and the bride is absolutely devastated.

In all seriousness. I hope it weakens considerably between now and landfall. I lived in Tampa for 10 years and still have family there and in Ft Myers.

Wow, hope they stay safe.

Hurricane Charlie was one of the most powerful storms to ever hit Florida. Ian is following many patterns of Charlie in terms of movement. Several differences though; Ian is a much bigger storm, is more powerful than Charlie, and is moving very slow (Charlie was a fast mover).

This could be the most destructive storm to ever hit the state (Irma and Andrew currently hold the records).

Look at the cities affected:

Cape Coral
Kissimmee
Orlando
Dayton Beach

Millions of dollars worth of property at risk.

The storm surge is already devastating and it's not even the worse part yet.

This event will be so dramatic to Florida, that I **** you not, it might even have political ramifications in November for the country.

Not even kidding.

I'm in Tallahassee. We were originally right in the middle of the projected cone but it kept shifting east and south. Today was a beautiful cool and windy day after several hot weeks.

I was also in the emergency operations center today watching the storm live through the state cctv cams. It was crazy seeing areas 100 miles north of the epicenter get hammered with high winds and storm surge several hours before the eye made landfall.

Stay safe bud. We’ve got close friends in, near? South Jacksonville and sometimes it’s hard to differentiate between casts where the meteorologists are trying to make it look like Armageddon (Looking at you Weather channel) and those who are just reporting the facts.

Gotta love the screaming weather alert for a flash flood advisory on all of your devices at 3 in the morning that my half asleep self assumed is for the tornadoes that often occur in the west coast landing storms...

Finally got my dog to calm down and sleep after the neighbors fence exploded all over our back yard only for me to rush him into the bathroom that he won't leave now.

At least we still have power.

Ft. Myers is going to be a disaster. Good buddy of mine has his parents in Punta Gorda who are out on a RV across the U.S trip right now and we all got to watch their pool closure fly off, their boat float down the canal into the gulf, and about 4 feet of water get to their house via their security cameras until the power went out... all before the eye made landfall.

That's awful. Hope you're OK there in Orlando.

Amazing you have power Jay, saw that over 2 million are out in the area.
