I might have to ditch my S21 Ultra for a 12 Pro Max

Pretty expensive and can guarantee the sound quality is poor.

Is there anything similar that you would recommend? I’d rather pick up just one product and be happy with it than have to keep shopping around….

Honestly.. I don't think you can get very good quality with that wraparound style with a super tiny driver that isn't in-ear. The reason why in-ears can sound good even though the drivers are so small, is because of the distance to the ear drum being so short.

I really can't recommend a wrap-around style with honesty because I don't think the design is capable of good quality.

What is the reasoning for not liking in-ears? Is it fitment? Silicone tip, or hard tip?

I've tried several in ear over the years and prefer the silicon tip, but these would be used for work mostly and I'm on the road anywhere from 2>5 hours a day. I just realized I linked the wrong model of that set...there's one with a boom mic ....They seemed to be a good compromise between usability at work and private time off duty.

The in ear buds never seem to fit just right either. I'd still give a good set a try though and let carplay handle all the phone call stuff at work...

To be honest you really are better off with airpods pro and they have the transparency feature so you can hear everything going on with them on.

If you don't want to pay the eye watering 250 for them Apple just released the
Beats Studio Buds for 150 that will get you 90% of airpods pro for one hundred off. I might get a pair to replace my power beats pro. There only difference is the button on it is physical, no wireless charging case, and ho H1/w1 chip but it still connects and functions the same.

I didn't know about that transparency feature. That could be a deal maker for me. I have $350ish in Bestbuy gift cards laying around...that would take the sting out of that cost. And even partially cover an Apple pencil 2 lol.

I'll check them out, thanks

If your spending that much money... the Sony - WF-1000XM4 out class them in every category. Also has a Ambient/transparency mode. But they are likely to be more expensive, as they are unlikely to be on sale.

That got my attention  I've been on a pretty good device spending spree lately, so I think I'm going to grab the Apple pencil and call it a day. The BB gift cards will be invested in something for my grandson.

I do really appreciate the input though gents. I just need to slow up a bit before I talk myself into a MBP or something lol.

Cheers guys

edit: There's also one other item I'm seriously considering, but not for this thread.

If you're that gonna spend much but want good sound quality get the IE80s BT.
Sennheiser discontinued all their in-ears released before 2020. Amazon is selling it for $129
I think that's a steal considering that I paid $200 & $300 for 2 Nov last year.

The DAC used is aAK4331ECB. It's helluva lot better than what in my phone. The is battery runtime is 4~6hrs depending on the volume.
The downside to these earphones is it doesn't have ANC and transparent hearing. The plus is can be used with a 3.5mm cable.

Those look great, but I think I'm backing off the earbud purchase Idea for now. I've never been comfortable with them and don't want to spend money on another item that will sit in my closet. Next to the other buds I've tried lol.

Appreciate the input though, thanks

Amazon has 30days return so you could try and return it if it doesn't work. I wouldn't recommend using the silicone tip if you want to wear them for more 3~4hours. I've been wearing ie80 for over a decade. Silicone tips in my experience are comfortable for a short session like my 1hrs commutes. I start to get some ear fatigue after 4hrs without any breaks.

The Earphones come with Comply foam 600 isolation samples. I think the comfort tips might better for you - the shape is more spherical and it doesn't sit deeper in the ear canal compare to the isolation model.

I personally prefer the comply foam over the silicone tips. Comply foam tips are legit comfortable. I have them on my True wireless earbuds which sit deeper in the ear canal than the ie80. I've been wearing it for 5+hrs straight at work. I don't get ear fatigue at the end of the day. The market material isn't kidding when it says 30x softer than silicone. I kept it on during lunch too. Using the silicone tip ear I notice pressure when chewing. I don't notice it with the foam tips.

If you want to give in earbuds another chance in the future - give Comply foam tips a try. :bleh:

I will have to try those foam tips out as well. I get ear fatigue pretty quick. Silicone tips help but it can always be better. Thanks for the info

You have me reconsidering  I never heard the term ear fatigue before but it makes perfect sense. I’m going to get a set to see how they feel and take it from there.

Thanks much :)

Didn't you get the Galaxy Buds Pro or + whatever they called it with the S21 Ultra? They also work on IOS I believe. The Galaxy Buds I got with my S21 5G are awesome no complaints here. I've also got the Galaxy Watch 3 which works great too. The wife has the 12 Pro Max and it's a big and heavy phone. We're both on the same call plan but her call quality is no where near as good as mine.

Had several iPads and then bought a Surface Pro 4 and wow miles better. The wife has iPad Pro, iPad mini and and Macbook Air and personally I wouldn't swap to any of them. Different people different choices I guess.

Like people have said maybe your S21 Ultra needed fixing or replacing (within warranty) but you seem happy with your choice and that's all that matters really. Hope it pans out for you in the long term.

I haven't tried the buds yet. I've heard they're a great set, but the whole thing with ear buds is strictly me. I've had lower quality ones like everyone, but it's the sensitivity in the ears that gets me every time. I'm just not comfortable with them.

As far as the phone goes, I'm really happy with the 12 Pro, but I really loved the S21 as well. It was a case of urgency and "Well, that one didn't work so try this one" lol. I just didn't want to chance grabbing another and having the same thing happen.

All's well at this point though. I'm surprisingly happy with the 12 - I really despised Apple for a good long time, but iOS really has come a long way.

Might get these, dont care for apple integration that much over sound quality and better anc. Price is high though :bleh:

I just got a set of Sony WF-SP800N's, and I'm pretty blown away by them. If more expensive=more better then the WD-1000XM4 must be awesome :bleh:

Im sure there is some point of diminishing returns.

I picked them up today and I can say for fact that these things are definitely the truth. I wear earbuds when riding my bike and these literally cancelled out wind noise.. its almost scary.

Iphone 12 is unbelievably nice. I have use of one and air pod pros for work. (Use onsite/ability to make calls on public transit/professional apps support kind of stuff)

From the screen to the battery life...... I can see the attraction.

I'm a lower class scrub and thus no personal apple device for me. More well to do people (of which here there are many), go for it.

Well, I've had enough years to save a few $$ but strictly middle class here. I'm still loving this phone, which is kind of surprising. The "New and novelty" aspect usually wears off of my purchases pretty quickly. Not this phone, ipad and watch though. Super pleased with them.

Its in how I've seen how good things are in professional use that I'm impressed. My boss has an apple watch and that thing is super for the work flow I'm in now. Weeds out BS from 'do it now' super quick. The 5G on the 12 actually ****ing works in the NYC area and there is nothing like checking a drive transfer on a remote server from the Teamveiwer app on it. Hot spot is easy to set up and fast too, can test VPN accounts on site and even play with remote desktop using it! The outlook integrations for things like calendar and notes are better than anything I had on windows phone.

Hey, it's only 1/13 of the price I paid for my car.... A super samsung is like 1/10th so you know, could be worse.... I can appreciate the current iOS hardware lineup in the work environment but for personal use.... Its a top 25% product that something 1/5th the cost is nearly as good.

Hell, I've been tempted by an Iphone SE but the $300 for even that is a bit rich for me still.... (I've been paying >$100 for phones since 2015....) thats xbox series s money son and 3/5th the amount I paid for my beloved semi gaming laptop! (Yes that sound you hear is the siren song of the 'cheep bird')

That Iphone SE is still tempting....
