Info on HyperZ, you might want to know!! "hint"

This is completey BOGUS information!

It is completey WRONG!

The Hyper-Z is certainly NOT set to off by default. In fact, there is no OFFICIAL way to even turn it off.

It is ON, it always has been ON, and it always will be ON.

The guys who found a way to disable it, only found it thru hacking the card so they could see the difference that Hyper-Z made.

ATI even says that there is no OFFICIAL way to turn it off, and it most certainly is ON.

This guy is just trying to get people to pay $10 bucks to his friend for a tweak guide.

Maybe some of his tweaks are good, but this Hyper-Z thing is completey FALSE.

Do not tamper with your cards because a 12 year old kid says he found a magic switch. The same 12 year old kid could be sniffing glue!

Question-Why would ATI have Hyper-Z ( a technology that gives the Radeona a big chunk of it's great performance) turned off?

Answer- They wouldn't.

"Radelon" is simply mistaken, that's all.

Remember people!...

YOU MUST REBOOT FOR THE CHANGES IN THE REGISTRY TO TAKE EFFECT

...I have no opinion on this topic...nor the 'flamed' version of it.

The whole point is that Hyper-Z is ON. Read the first sentence in this quote from Sharky.

QUOTE:

Although ATI’s drivers don’t let you turn off HyperZ by default, we were able to uncover the registry keys to disable all three aspects of the technology using a third party application to demonstrate the performance benefits gained. For those curious enough to play with these settings, they are:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ATI Technologies\Driver\0001\atidxhal\

“FastZClearEnabled” = 0 or 1 (String)
“DisableHyperZ” = 0 or 1 (String)
“DisableHierarchicalZ” = 0 or 1 (String)

So however you interpret it, the whole point is that Hyper-Z is ON, and not even meant to be turned off. Sharky and ATI tech support bith confirm this.

That's all I am saying.

Radelon:

I see a "PC Accelerator 4000" listed but no "PC Accelerator 5001"...

Wait, I take that back, I see the shareware PCA 4000 is available
for download, but you have to already have registered, or pay the
purchase price, for the 5000 version.

PCA 4000 can be downloaded for a tryout, so I'll give it a look see.
But typically I like to know a little more about what a product is
trying to do, especially when I'm getting little more than hype about
it.

You aren't clear on what other changes you made to your system with
this program, and if they might also have had an effect on video
performance.

JUST FOR THE RECORD: RADELON IS A GOOD GUY, AND I DID NOT MEAN TO FLAME HIM IN ANY WAY.

I AM JUST REPORTING WHAT I HAVE FOUND, READ, AND CONFIRMED AT SHARKY'S AND ATI.

THE ACTUAL NUMBERS ARE A BIT STRANGE, I ADMIT. BUT EVERYONE DOES SEEM TO CONFIRM THAT HYPER-Z IS ON.

AGAIN, NO FLAME MEANT TO RADELON.

PEACE!!

Well rad I tried it and it trememdously helped my ut and deuce ex experience thanks ( btw to u wanna be flamers the new drivers could have disabled it DUH!!!!) and the drivers sharkey used were the FIRST drivers. Nvidia has dome some of the same things a programmer accidently disables a function. but FOR A FACT it helped out my ut and deuc ec ( both use the ut engine ) oh and btw smarty ur reg stuff sharky posted is not in the reg area u postedHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ATI Technologies\Driver\0001\atidxhal\

“FastZClearEnabled” = 0 or 1 (String)
“DisableHyperZ” = 0 or 1 (String)
“DisableHierarchicalZ” = 0 or 1 (String)***
disheiZ is the only one there out of these there is no sign of the others in this drivers 54 set not ANYWHERE IN THE REG I did a search and to no avai none of the other 2 were there!!!HMMMMMMMMM which tells me it was disabled in some fashion. You should try things out for urself before judging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those keys need to be added, as they are not already in the registry. I actually discovered them on my own, and they do affect performance. Since there seems to be some argument going on, I will try and help.

HierarchicalZ cannot be turned off, and it is inherent in the drivers. By turning it to 0 or 1, you are merely setting it to different levels. TUrn the level too high and you get artifacts, turn it too low and your performance goes down.

The other two switches can be toggled on and off, bu you really can't "turn off" HyperZ all the way, and yes, HyperZ is most definitely enabled by default in the driver.

Ciao!
