Intel 13th Gen CPU thread

6ghz... geez that'll be pretty close to getting the original crysis running smoothly.

So I got some credit at MicroCenter and still tempted to get a 12700K and a Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4.

Someone please stop me!!!

Don't bother

Wait for Z790 Boards. Also, stay the **** away from Gigabyte. Go MSI. ASUS boards are garbage this year and overpriced, gigabyte can't run DDR4 to save it's life, and ASROCK is ASRock.

MSI is miles ahead of everyone else this gen.

You're building my next rig for me btw :yep:

Wondering if it will be worth upgrading given that I am not gaming at all these days. :bleh:

Thanks bud, needed a slap on the face again. šŸ˜‰

Any time

I'm in the same boat. I barely use my PC lately.. so busy with house projects, work, etc. I still want to buy parts just because. Lol

 wait for Raptor Lake. Let the psychos like me stick to 12th gen and the shortcomings of weak IMCs lol

Did you just call me a psycho? IM NOT A ****ING PSYCHO!!!! :bleh:

Anyway, yeah hold off for Raptor Lake.

It is a shame that z790/raptor lake will be the end of the ride for the socket unless this is the gen where intel changes its ways.

It's dead after RL. Intel loves to do this. :bleh:

Doesn't AMD kind of do the same though? I mean, they say you can use the new CPUs on any of their older boards and that is true after a bios update. You can put a 5X00 series chip in a x300 series motherboard but then you lose out on PCI4 and other features.

I personally don't know if that is a good product design. I mean, yeah, it saves some money on a new motherboard but it doesn't run the part at optimal performance.

To me it's like buying a really cheap set of tires for a Porsche. Sure, they work but they take a sports car and turn it into a meh car....

I mean.. AMD locked out their chips beyond two board releases so why is it a shocker if Intel does the same? Many boards made for Zen1 did not work with 3000 series.

Meteor Lake will be significantly different from Alder/Raptor. It'll need a new platform for those changes alone, afaik.

Iā€™m expecting Raptor lake to just be a refresh of Alder lake. Nothing exciting to look forward to. Same old story before a platform change.

Should see clock gains and drop in power consumption.

I'm likely going to grab Raptor Lake and go with a DDR5 setup with a high-end mobo, and be done for a long time

Not sure if seriousā€¦ :bleh:

Yeah my time of dropping big $$ on PC parts is coming to an end. Between house projects, more money in investments, etc.. just don't have as much time or interest the past year or two.

This next gen is my last big upgrade for a while.

Well I have been saying similar things for ages. Yet I end up spending dime. Still maintaining my principle of getting at least 2 years out of CPU upgrade.

So next upgrade possibility is Nov this year for me.
