The SAME point you are trying to protect about ps2's development difficulties is what hurted n64 and saturn, i bet back in the psx days though you were praising how much sony was right to have an easy to dev for console right? hypocrite.
Developers becoming too lazy ? ROFL, thats the best i've heard so far. If you want to waste MILLIONS of $ fighting with the hardware and try to squeeze performances out of it, then go for ps2. Gamecube will save time and money and let them concentrate on gameplay, and almost eleminate delays related to hardware. Exactly why developers loved deving for psx over n64. Now suddently it should change typical.
as for GT3 and MGS2, well you're comparing games that polyphony and konami have been working on for over 2 years now, gamecube and xbox developers are only starting to warm up. I can guarantee you that you'll see something that will kill gt3 and mgs2 graphic wise pretty soon on gamecube, NST is working on a GT type of racer, thunder rally was already crushing Gt3 in terms of effects and graphics yet it was only 3 months old. Eternal darkness will look better than MGS2 by launch, and too human along with PD0 will just crap over it. Not saying that gt3 or mgs2 dont look good, but if you know anything about hardware you should already know that both of them arent a challenge for the upcoming consoles, in fact they could probably pull off what konami took in 2 years and half and recreate the same in 1 year on gamecube.
and no, ps3 wont have the same architecture as ps2, it would be SUICIDE for next generation consoles, its simply outdated and costly architecture that wont be able to perform on what it should. In fact sony already dropped the EE concept for IBM's new cpu core called cell, memory on ps3 will HAVE to be either 1t-sram or better, anything under that would create a bottleneck. And if they ever keep up their stupid GS with no texturing engine AGAIN, i think it will officially make sony the tard of this industry.
