New vehicle

if you're getting the high mileage range rover, just go ahead and tell the salesman you'd like to rent out a room at the dealership because you're going to be living there lol

I was pretty sold on a used Macan(and cayanne to a certain extent) until I started reading up on them.

Issues with the transfer cases and also oil leaks. Apparently Porsche use aluminum bolts throughout the motor and they break in half causing the leaks.

I'm not sure is it was remedied in later models but because I wanted a Porsche built engine I was looking at no later then 2017's(maybe it was 2016). After that Porsche used Audi engines(I believe).

It's fixable but I just personally would rather not possibly deal with it. But damn is the Macan nice.

Starting to look at Volvo's. XC60 or the V60.

I've read through dozens of articles from various car websites about the most reliable vehicles and the ones that are the cheapest to maintain, least depreciation, etc.

Lexus is pretty much the brand to beat when it comes to this but they're off the table. All luxury vehicles depreciate way more than regular vehicles and they tend to have more things to fix because they tend to be loaded with new features and tech.

Honestly your best choices from what you listed are the Porsche Macan or Cayenne...both hold their value well (considering the segment) and both are very reliable (again, considering the segment). The Macan is listed several places as being one of the most reliable luxury SUVs. I have a friend with an older Cayenne Turbo (don't remember the year) and she's barely had to do much with it maintenance wise.

After that you'll have BMW x3 or x5 which will be less reliable than the Porsche models and Mercedes less so than BMW

I found several Macan models in my area easily for the budget listed. That'd be my choice if I was getting a new (used 2018) vehicle in this segment

Got it. I am still not mentally ready to spend money as I have not hit my personal goal. However, these days some offers are nice like 0% down payment and 2.2% finance rate which is quite tempting. Also car prices aren’t too bad. If I go with a Macan it will be 2018 or higher (one with full light bar). Cayenne is above my price range if I go 2018. Not sure it is worth it though and people are asking price as if car is new (I know most people load it up w/ options but asking 75-80 grand for a 2018 model is stupid. Since new one is about 95 grand.

My brother in law has a GLS C63. He took me for a ride in that beast today, and holly hell is that thing fast. You should get one. He got a 2018, and I was afraid to ask how much it cost.

i actually like the cls c63 (AMG), they are very common here. And trust me, you don't wanna know what they cost.

i would never get a new one for long term because of how complex the engine seems to be. i am guessing the reason all the new ones have basically the same engine is because it would be easier to just stick the same engine into every model, but it seems needlessly complicated, rather than just making a simple 4 cyl and a simple 6 cyl.

Well I was trying to setup a Macan with some basic options like having decent interior, lane change assist and some crap. Price jumped from 60K advertised to 80K in a few minutes. So overpriced and underpowered for what you get. Easier to just get a Macan S for an additional 5-8K. But I am not ready to spend 80K-88K on a car.

The Polestar version looks interesting. Turbo super-charged.

Pricey though

Buy used?

Mazda. I'm partial to the 3. Super fun to drive, cheap but beautiful. I have bought tires and battery for my 16 IT sedan and have not spent a dime on my 18 GT hatch.

Reason to not buy a EV is because of no real charging stations except in malls.
Cost of charging at home will be prohibitive since electricity is not cheap here.

I don't know why you're going after luxury brands. Your Ford Edge has lasted 12yrs with minimal maintenance, and yet you want to jump ship to Porsche, or BMW, which will require deep pockets for when things inevitably break.

What does the Macan S offer that you're currently missing? I get modern creature comforts, but you can get that in a Jeep, Range/Land Rover, Lexus, or maybe even Jaguar.

To be honest with you KAC, it kind of seems like you're more interested in the status of a Porsche than you are with a functional vehicle that will hold up in the desert heat. I think Lexus is a very good option and should be considered.

After the Lexus/Toyota suggestions, the Porsche is likely to be the most reliable over all brands listed.

But when something does go wrong, be prepared to spend racecar like amounts on it.

The Mazda 3 occasionally has the lowest first 5 year costs of ownership in its class.

You absolutely aren't going for reliability with a Jaguar/Land Rover.

Problem with Lexus here is that it is associated as a taxi brand unless you go for a GX or LX and then you are already paying more than a Porsche.

There is technically nothing wrong with my Ford. I am pretty ok with it. This whole vehicle upgrade is supposed to be just that “an upgrade”. My Sport Ford Edge actually has almost similar power to a stock Cayenne or a Macan S. I think 315 HP vs 320 or something.

If I wanted a cheaper car I would honestly go for another Ford and my wife will probably kill me.. She does care about status yes. So do I a little bit.
