Nvidia bringing Gysnc to Freesync monitors

Is AMD going to dedicate entire server farms to make use of this? Direct ML is machine learning and any machine learned upscaling like DLSS is going to require dedicated server farms to run the AI learning network on, open or not.


Also the article you linked shows just how little expertise AMD has in this area, because Microsoft used Nvidia hardware to demonstrate DirectML. Which means Nvidia is ready out the gate DirectML ready while AMD is just "compliant".



BTW what does this have to do with Freesync/Gsync?

I think amd can run raytracing and inference but without dedicated hardware, don't think they will be too efficient, imho.
 
I don't know, the article said developing hardware for inference hardware, Nvidia spent resources here with tensor cores, don't think amd has similar hardware.

This won't be seen on current AMD hardware. DirectML allows direct access to Nvidia's tensor cores, which means there's no performance penalty. AMD has no such hardware, so even if they develop a DLSS like method it will need to share resources for graphics rendering, reducing performance. I don't see AMD pushing this yet, makes little sense to dedicate an ai network that will not really benefit current AMD hardware.

Radeon VII isn't current AMD hardware we don't know what is in it and it say this only works on Radeon VII

and as for the ai network maybe it is Microsoft's for the next xbox (on a AMD APU ) and windows ?:hmm:
 
Just tested FreeSync and GTX1080 on 4K display with Crysis 3.
Seems to work.

nVidia Pendulum demo works well.

Cheapo Costco LG 4k FreeSync 60hz monitor. I believe that even on a 60hz monitor active sync is a benefit.

nVidia came through just after I switched to a Radeon main rig :lol:
 
Not getting Freesync/VRR over HDMI is a nice Blow Me from Nvidia :mad: Just pisses me off as it excludes all TVs that have and will get VRR now. Maybe even projectors will get VRR, would be huge.

Edit: of course one could just use an adapter, but I'm assuming Nvidia blocks that out...

VRR with a G-Sync monitor requires DisplayPort. I don't think they are intentionally crippling it over HDMI. I think there is little benefit for them to try and enable it.

Well... maybe they´ll get around to it.
But they´re probably not blocking anything. HDMI doesnt have any VRR support on it´s own like DisplayPort does afaik. Think they´re making it part of some new 2.1 standard tho.
AMD made it work themselves afaik with "Freesync over HDMI" as a thing.

VRR is part of the HDMI 2.1 standard. It will work with Nvidia cards with HDMI 2.1 televisions over HDMI.

For current HDMI (2.0), no there's no Freesync support because it's not part of the HDMI 2.0 specification. I don't know why you would expect otherwise. I'm not aware of any TV's that has VRR over HDMI 2.0, they don't exist. That means you must be using HDMI on a standard monitor...so my question is why? Use a display port cable instead.
