~ Official GAMING ON ANDROID thread ~

iOS has numerous(although not official) minecraft clones that are just as good as the official one. They are all only building mode though.. can you go online and play with friends on the official one?

^I'm pretty sure Elysian was just joking, hence the smiley on his comment. ;) I'm not a Minecraft fan, but from reading the comments it lacks many of the PC features currently.

First off, there is a free version you can try. The video pretty much sums up the options. The gameplay is pretty simple to get into and it played extremely smooth on my Xoom. It does warn you that the first swerve will have some stuttering, but after that it's smooth. It's no Virtua Tennis, but it is a solid game. It's more like a retro tennis game but still a lot of fun.

FYI, this is available today (11/22/2011) for free as the "app of the day" on Amazon.

world of goo is available on the android market now. free demo, 3$ discounted price for a week. after that it will be 5$. fantastic game, highly recommended.

also, jelly defense is free on the amazon market today. details on the game earlier in this thread.

It doesn't need dual core CPU to run, my single core 1.4GHz Scorpion with Adreno 205 runs the game smoothly :D

Let's Golf 3

I hadn't seen this one mentioned. It's a "Freeium" game. Basically, you have "energy" which is used. 1 energy is one hole play. You get 5 energies when you start so that gives you a minimum of 5 hole plays before needing recharging. It takes 1 hour to charge 1 bolt of energy. You can earn energy when playing by leveling up, but you won't be leveling up on each hole. As you level up, you get level points to apply to your golfer's attributes like a RPG.

The load times are a bit long on my Xoom for the levels. Also, if you replay a hole/level, it basically has to load the hole/level over again. I'm not sure why they can't just reset your player without reloading the entire level..

You can use real money to purchase energy, but it appears you never "own" the game. You can also purchase clothes and accessories. These can also increase your golfer's attributes when worn.

Overall, the game itself is very good but I don't like the idea of their pricing model. I don't use my Xoom for my primary means on gaming, so playing 5-7 holes of "gaming golf" is enough for me in a day. However, it's something that may turn off others.

NFL Pro 2012

This is another Gameloft game like Let's Golf which is "Freemium". The way the game is limited is by plays. You can play a full game of football with basic/limited plays, but your mileage may vary. You do have access to "some" non-basic plays, but you only get to use them once and then they recharge (about 5 minutes). This doesn't sound bad, until you realize how complex football can be and how boring a game is with only 5-6 offensive plays and 4-5 defensive plays.

The actual game play isn't bad, but it's no Madden or anything from 2K. The AI is decent at run defense but not so good at pass defense. It's still fun and an actual "real" football game for mobile devices (unlike the football drill games).

Like Let's Golf 3, it doesn't appear you could ever "own" it. Decent game, but "Freemium" implementation is less than desirable.

Race of Champions (RoC)

Market Link: http://tinyurl.com/8856txc

This is a free but add-supported game. It offers two control types for the cars and runs pretty smooth on my Xoom. The gameplay is not really all that varied, so if you don't like racing circuit tracks, you'll get bored with this pretty quickly. It does offer racing ghost players who have raced which is very cool. So you get to race against a human, but just not in real-time.

In case you don't have it yet, this is bar none the best phone game it is currently on sale for 99 cents and is now available on android. TouchArcade President-in-Chief Eli Hodapp freely argues is the greatest game ever created Do not miss this game, and thank me later. Do not let the graphics fool you this game is simply awesome. It's hard to explain it's like puzzle quest (but much deeper and way more fun in it's matching component, essentially if you like dungeon romps you will love this and if you have an easily addictive personality you will be hooked for longer than you want to be), but you draw lines to defeat ever added enemies then keep going til you die and level up and get upgrades, it's like a rogue type game in that you just keep going deeper and deeper until you die then start all over to unlock more character types and crap, hard to explain and it doesn't sound awesome on paper but it's the best game period.

there are 10 classes,400+ unique items to buy and upgrade,30 abilities, 20 upgrades, 25 different monsters to beat etc.. you can literally play this for hundreds of hours, but each game is from a few minutes to hopefully an hour plus if your lucky.
