What 4k TV are you using? Is it passive 3D?

I am using this one:

Samsung 48" 4K

It uses active 3D - in game I set the 3D option to side by side and then just activate it on my TV. If I had to pick one game to push 3D gaming with it would be one of the Trine games. I am currently going through Trine 2 and will pick up Trine 3 at some point. Steam helps with its big picture mode - I set it to run on my 2nd display.

Cool I'm looking to get an LG 4k passive. My Current Samsung is active 3D and I think a switch to passive would be a refresher and easier on my eyes. Plus glasses will be cheap.

I wasn't really looking for a 4K but there were some good deals posted on the Samsung 4K thread over at Hardforum and I jumped in on one of them.

Finally got my 65" LG 4k passive 3D set. This one right here:
http://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-65UF8500-4k-uhd-led-tv

With standard Nvidia drivers, I'm still limited to 1080p 24hz with 3DTV Play (there is a method to expose 4k interleaved passive @ 60hz but I haven't explored this yet). However, I no longer need active shutter glasses. I just slip on the passive glasses (much lighter and comfortable).

Since this is passive, theoretically the image is half resolution. However, since this is a 4k display to begin with, I am getting FULL 1080p image per eye. This was not the case with prior 1080p passive LG sets, the interleaving resulted in an inferior image compared to active shutter displays like Samsung.

Also, the interpolation on the LG is miles ahead of my prior Samsung, I don't seem to "feel" the input lag I had with the Samsung. Even though the display is 1080p 3D @ 24hz, it looks/feels as if it's really 60 fps. Weird, but better.

At 65", 3D is MUCH more immersive than the 46" Samsung 3DTV I had before. Obviously due to the screen real estate.

Playing Fallout 4 is real crisp and if I'm actually there. I can help but emphasize that with 4k, the passive image is a clean 1080p, but somehow it looks better/sharper than the Samsung with the same settings. There might be some kind of 3D pixel interpolation going as well to form a 4k image, because the image I'm seeing is MUCH better than I had before, and really sharp and pixel perfect as if I'm looking at a 4k image.

All in all very pleased with the purchase. The only downside is 65" for regular 1080p viewing shows alot of flaws. Either because the scalar isn't perfect, or that imperfections are simply magnified on a 65 inch screen. Will just have to get used to it.

Also haven't figured out a way to get back HDMI audio, since the HDMI out on the video card needs to be connected directly to the LG display to recognize 4k resolution. For now I'm stuck with TV audio.

This is a 4k enabled EDID override for passive sets. It works great for my LG 55UF8600.

4k Passive 3d gaming. Just create a custom resolution of 3840x2159 to reverse the eyes, and I suggest using that as your desktop res. Hold down shift while restarting windows 10 to get to the options to disable driver signing. If you have problems just make sure that scaling is disabled.

Ah thanks! Is there a rundown on how to install this? I have windows 8.1

Will it just work with my 65" LG, or do I need to make any changes?

The size of the screen doesn't matter.

Sorry I didn't see this yesterday. Hopefully you already figured it out, but if you haven't:

To install the EDID override just go to the device manager and open your monitor properties. Select the Driver tab, and click "Update Driver". Then select "Browse my computer", and click on "Let me pic from a list". Now click "Have Disk" and browse to wherever you unzipped the EDID override and click OK. Now select the override and click next.

If it gives you any guff about not being signed, then just follow the directions at: http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/

Once you get it installed the eyes will be reversed. Just open the NV control panel and click on "Change resolution". Click on "Customize". Put a check mark in "Enable resolutions not exposed by this display" and then click on the "Create Custom Resolution" button.

Just click the down arrow in the Vertical lines section to change it from 2160 to 2159.

Test it and there you go. Use it as your desktop res for max compatibility. Some games will work properly in 3d using lower resolutions, but only if you keep your desktop at the custom res.

I play Elder Scrolls Online in 3d at 2560x1600 and it looks great with no lag.

There is a Fallout 4 patch for 3d at:

Ah thanks for the write up! I'll try this later on this evening. I actually upgraded to Win 10 last night, seems to be stable for everything.

BTW do I need to plug in the 3d emitter? Currently i use 3dtv play for the main living room rig, but I do have a 3d vision kit on my office pc.

You're welcome. No need to plug in the emitter. The EDID override doesn't even require 3dtv play.

Does anybody still use 3DVision/3DTV Play or Tridef anymore? I stopped over a year ago. IZ3D has been defunct for like 5 years now.

VR has basically made these obsolete.

I still play more in 3d than on the Oculus. ESO doesn't work in 3d on the Oculus since Zenimax dropped DX9 support, and I'm still levelling alts. It's sweet af in 3d at 2560x1440 using a desktop res of 2159p and the 4k edid override.

If it worked in 3d on the Oculus, I'd probably get more cardio though. :D

I actually just picked up 3D Vision, I dont see VR making this obsolete unless you want to wear some heavy gear all the time and spend another $700 instead. I do think they are both in a sector of being a Fad that both will die though like 3D did.

I have a rift and I'm with you. I haven't touched the rift in a couple of months just due to the lenses fogging up on me in the summer weather.

My main gripe about 3d vision was the ghosting and poor support. At least I was able to play solid games on it and not have to shelf the thing if it was too hot in the house.

FFS it'll fog up in the winter. God forbid you wear glasses.

I have been using 3d Vision with Surround for a while.

I got a Vive a month or so ago and I still use the 3d Vision for stuff like Civ V and other PC games.

I think that VR has it's place but nothing beats the field of vision that 5760 X 1080 gives you for some games.
