Official PhysX Thread

Is this basically a dead technology now? I never hear about it but I have my old GTX580 that I could throw in my system. Doesn't sound like the big power draw and added heat is worth it when there's only a few instances it would ever be used.

Don't think it would be worthwhile trying to pair an old Fermi card with Pascal. The 1070 would do physx much better on its own anyway. But yeah, I think it's mostly dead at this point (I think it's basically just a part of the GameWorks toolset now since you never really hear about it anymore).

It has basically been rolled into Nvidia Gameworks as a whole and renamed and expanded to encompass multiple features. Nvidia Flex is a particle based simulation tech and Nvidia APEX comprises the following tech APEX Destruction, APEX Clothing, APEX Particles, APEX Turbulence and APEX ForceField.

The amount of games actually using GPU PhysX/Apex/Flex pales in comparison to those that use the CPU instead and for those that do use the GPU will cope better and have better performance using just your GTX 1070 alone rather than using it in conjunction with the GTX 580 for PhysX duty.

So not dead just renamed, expanded and relegated to using the CPU more than the GPU in most games released today.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll just sell the 580 then, someone is already interested in it without me even posting it.

I know somthing was up as Nvidia even open up Physx card to be used if you have a AMD main card. (Ps good way to boost fps if your on a older CPU and a amd gpu)

It's been a long time I noticed and cared for PhysX games. In fact, I don't even install PhysX component when I install GeForce drivers. Been like this over the last 3~4 years.
