Rage golfers?

Dang, I almost forgot it was Masters weekend.

Anyhow, I used to be super-hardcore. Twenty or so years ago I was a 7-handicap, once birdied four holes in a row, and shot par for an 18-hole round at the local muni. My partner, a 2, and I used to regularly win $ at tourneys.

Anymore I usually just putter around with Wifey. :manches2:

Anyone? From what I understand, the big golf boom of the 90's and aughts, that started even before the Tiger Woods phenomenon, has these days reversed, and younger people aren't taking up the game as much.

I play a few times a year but i suck. Its fun, usually by the 6-8 hole were not seeing overly straight tho. Your right tho, i dont see much youth on the course. There all playing virtual golf instead.

I'm in two leagues, an 18 hole pure match play on Saturday mornings and 9 hole combined match and medal play after the work day. The Saturday 18 hole league is struggling to get enough players but the shorter 9 hole league grows year after year.

I think golf slowly is changing with the times.

Golf is great for us old guys because we can still play and compete well after our physical peak. My handicap is as low as it has ever been at 8.

a waste of water in AZ and needs to be banned.

the more golf courses they build the higher my water bill gets per gallon

A few years ago Jack Nicklaus, now a golf course designer, was on HBO RealSports. He said no one is building new courses in the US, it's all overseas. They're closing down here.

Phoenix is one of the golf meccas of the world, so the courses already there must use tons of water. But it's more likely courses there have closed down rather than new ones opening.

@ GSGrunt-- weekly match play sounds awesome.

I ride my bike down the Indian Bend Wash and there are 3 courses on it that I ride thru and I see the last one has new construction going in now

Kinda pathetic but, I'm extremely excited about the Reed/Mcilroy final pairing.
Dis gon be gud!

I hope :)

Looking at that area on Google maps. The only green is the golf courses. Wow.

@bill

I think Phoenix city officials would agree that golf contributes significantly to area economies. Benefits far outweigh the negatives. The Phoenix area is world famous for golf.

It was cliche but when I lived in the Chicago burbs I had the clubs in the car and would run out during lunch break to hit a bucket and we would do a 9 hole once a month and a 18 few times a year. Was fun. Moved away and we all said we would travel to play and we never did. Not even sure the clubs survived the divorce.

Wow Bill I live in the highest water district in the state and my bill isn't that high! Then again I do live in podunk USA.

Today I shot a 39 for nine holes, maybe the first time in 7-10 years. I missed a hole-in-one by the width of a golf ball on one of the par-3's (180 yds), which helped me to 1-under-par on the last four holes.

:runaway:

Nice. So so close to that hole in one.

Last time I went golfing I golfed a 23, then did a little bit better on the second hole.

I came here hoping for angry golfers and broken clubs and full-contact putting. I am disappoint.

This year has been steady. Handicap hovering around 9 after dropping from 12 two years ago. Still have hope to drop below 8 this year.

i just play rarely at random small par 3 courses around here. once hole-in-oned a 55 or 60 yarder. my friend didn't even see it
