Just collecting dust

Still can't find any over here, and the weekends are the only time I have to look as I cannot take ANY time off from my job to find one.

the only version you can't get right now (over here) is the one with 400 games pre-installed. Every other Version you can get almost everywhere.

Yeh, but I would have liked to keep the system stock and legit. May as well just use an emulator then.

Allstars was a pack-in game with snes, it should have been included

Well honestly those are all NES games, and they are all on the NES Classic (except that Japanese SMB2). It would have been totally redundant for Nintendo to waste a game spot for All Stars. And yeah, it was a pack in on a later bundle release on the console like several other games but was not an original pack in game. That was just Super Mario World.

As for reluctance to hack it, it honestly doesn't matter much anyways. The way the hack software works is you can have a new menu for any uploaded ROMs, and keep all the stock games separate on the main screen if you want. There would just be one folder there to get to the extra games. Also, if you want you can always flash it back to the original kernel then uninstall the hakchi2 software and it will be back to original stock settings. These options are right in the drop down menus.

I honestly had the same concern about hacking it at first but when I saw that it does not do anything permanent and can be 100% reverted to stock I was happy. Yeah you can always just emulate on PC, that's totally valid, but its just nice to have a dedicated little box that is official for Nintendo, works great with no nonsense, and can hook right up to your TV. For me I just love to be able to add all those super expensive SNES games that I'll never afford.

I asked for one for Xmas but have no idea if I'm getting one. Have never seen one anywhere around me.

Got an Xbox Scorpio like it was nothing though

Thought this story from another forum was interesting enough to share:

My local Walmart store won't sell SNES Classic Edition, even when it's in stock.

I've helped several people get it. I've given a few as birthday gifts over the last couple months (it really is the perfect gift). I've helped friends and family members get them. I ordered a Japanese Super Famicom Classic Mini on amazon.co.jp for a member of another forum (a huge Nintendo fan that had a rough year) and split the cost with another member there. Helped some total strangers get them too. A few times, I managed to snag one while I didn't have a particular recipient in mind. I typically list those online locally, pricing barely above my own cost and undercutting the others that were listed.

An online stock checker said my local Walmart had them. I usually ignore when it's Walmart because I never find them when I actually go to the store (only when I've lined up the night before a Classic Edition launch). The employees always say they haven't seen them for days/weeks. I was at the store anyway, so I checked to see if Walmart had any. The online stock checker said they had something like 6 or 8 units (it was one of those amounts I don't remember which one). No units in the game section behind the glass where they are probably supposed to be. I asked an employee "do you have the mini Super Nintendo Classic?" This particular employee is an old short-haired woman that has worked for this store FOREVER. She has never been any help at all. I'm pretty sure she works exclusively in the electronics section. She squinted her eyes and gave me a strange look before saying " 'Mini Super Nintendo?' I don't know what that is. Not anything we've ever had."

Oh sure. It's only the most in-demand item you've carried since September 29. I always expect bullshit from her. People were lining up in the electronics department around 8:XX PM the night of September 28, and she told everyone in line that the SNES CE wouldn't be sold until 8:00 AM. Like most Walmart Supercenter stores, this one is open 24/7. For this launch, other retailers that typically close at 9PM or 10PM were having special midnight releases. It wouldn't make any sense for Walmart to delay selling them until 0800. Her shift ended. The next shift was prepared and ready for the MIDNIGHT launch. They sold all of their units (at least a few dozen) right at midnight.

I remembered when the NES Classic Edition launched (Friday 2016-11-11). I was second in line on Thursday night. As the line kept growing, the same employee repeatedly told everyone that it would launch on Saturday 11/12. She kept advising them to go home. I told everyone in line that it's absolutely incorrect. Some people left anyway. There was a shift change. At midnight, all 6 or 7 units of the initial shipment were immediately sold to the people who stayed in line.

Back to my most recent encounter with her, I clarified "SNES Classic Edition, little Super Nintendo with a bunch of built-in games. It's definitely a product you sell. I lined up and bought my own the day it launched in September. Online it shows you have like 6 of them, but I know that's not always accurate." She still feigned ignorance. A male employee walked into the checkout area and she finally asked him. He confirmed they have it. The units were stocked in a locked cage behind the registers, where this woman spends the majority of her time. It's in a far back corner and very difficult to see from the customer side of the counter. Even knowing where they are, it's dark and shadowed on that shelf. You can't easily tell anything is there.

I bought one for someone I know. In the spot behind it, there were more (difficult to see from my vantage point). I told a stranger on Facebook that it was in stock at the local Walmart. He was very thankful/excited and said his daughters were going to love it. He left for the store immediately. A couple hours later, the online stock checker finally showed the quantity decrease after my purchase. Now it indicated something like 5 or 7 available (I don't remember exactly).

I sent the guy a message and asked if he snagged one, but he didn't reply immediately. Over an hour later he replied. He had left in a hurry with no way to charge his phone, so it had been completely dead. Walmart told him they didn't have any. Then he chased rumors for hours and went to multiple stores in and around the area. He ultimately came up empty handed. A couple hours later, my brother got off from work and checked our local Walmart again. I told my brother where to look and we confirmed Walmart still had it!

It's frustrating to see that the guy put in the effort and still didn't get one because Walmart employees will not even even admit it's in stock. They have these things, but it's like pulling teeth to get the employees to sell them (you know, their job).

I went back again today. This time, the spot was empty while the online stock checker still indicated 5 units. A different woman said she would check in the back. She carried one back out and said it was a canceled layaway item. It's difficult to believe someone would have one of these on layaway and cancel before Christmas.

I bought that and contacted the guy. We met and I gave it to him at cost. He's happy, but we're all a little upset with Walmart.

I wonder if it has something to do with the fact they don't put them out in the normal display cases, so some of the more dim-witted employees just never notice then

Some of these near snes launch games has way more slowdowns than I remembered.

I guess it might be because the slowdowns were not as severe on pal machines as they ran too slow in the first place?

I bet you're talking about Super Ghouls and Ghosts. The slowdown is out of control, making a hard game nearly impossible lol.

I saw one on sale at an amazon store but then just looked at it and my excitement for it just dwindled and I did not purchase.

In retrospect I think you're right. Hack the mofo.

And out of stock again. Seriously, when does this bullshit end?
Don't worry they come back in stock every week. Everyone should be able to get one now with minimal effort. Just use nowinstock to get text notifications.

I've gotten 3 notifications this week. Two from Amazon and one from Gamestop today.

I can try. My job doesn't permit me to take a day off (hell even when you're sick they want you in) to camp in front of a store hoping they get some. Only chances I have are the weekends or after work.

No, the nowinstock.net notifications are for online purchases.

Seriously, I have been getting notifications of it coming back in stock at places like Amazon, and Gamestop's website couple times a week for the past few months. You shouldn't have to go into a brick and mortar location. Just set it up to use the nowinstock text notifications.

I didn't have to camp out to get one, just went to a store on my break. You get breaks right? Call ahead so you don't waste time.

Got the last one in the case at my local Target this morning. istocknow said they had 1 left so I rolled the dice.

Always good to hear more people finding them for MSRP.

Now just waiting on Nintendo to announce the re-release date for the NES Classic.
