THE Official Steam Deck Thread

Everyone seems to love the weight and size and I cant get over it  It sure feels well built cause it feels weighty but I cant imagine myself holding it longer than an hour.

I havent had long gaming sessions with it yet, kind of just have it sitting around.

I find the Steamdeck more comfortable to use for longer gaming sessions than the Switch due to the proper grips on the back of the Steamdeck, I've found the flat back of the Switch means it doesn't really fit into my hands as well.

I'm surprised how well the Steamdeck works and it's great not just being able to play games from my existing library but also knowing that I can buy new games and have them available on a desktop, laptop or handheld especially being to sync between them all.

I also find comfortable to use whereas my hand would cramp or 'fall asleep' if I used the Switch for too long.

The best way to play the Steam Deck for me is to use one of those reading pillows you can get on Amazon. Something with back support, but especially with two armrest pillows to prop my arms up. Then I can hold it for hours.

So far having fun with my Deck, though I have had zero success getting any Epic games to run even through the Heroric launcher (tried RDR2 and Doom 64, both semi-loaded but didn't work). I may end up installing Win 10 on an SD card, but from what I've read there are no "speaker" drivers yet for the device audio so you can only get audio if you hook up speakers to it or use a bluetooth device.

Still, for actual Steam games it is fun.

I'm in the same boat. Fortnite really needs to be playable on Steam Deck. Heck, even my android phone plays Fortnite.

Steam Deck should be perfect for esports games, but it looks like it won't run most of them. If Steam Deck is successful enough, the esports studios will have to support it.

I've had no issues with the two epic games I've tried (Tomb Raider and Tetris Effect)

Heroics is hit and miss. Have you tried Lutris? I have several Epic Games, GOG, Origin, and even Uplay games running on my Steam deck. I mostly use Lutris do install my non-steam games.

I have an SD card with Win10 and honestly, I don't like Windows on this machine. Battery is poor when running Windows 10. Fan constantly runs higher. Also, games are not always compatible. For example, Gears of War blue screens more times than it runs. Drivers are still not ready.

Lutris scares me, though I haven't tried it yet. Heard it's more flexible, but also more difficult and confusing to use. Read a few guides to get an idea and it seemed...complex.

What I like about Lutris is community plugins/scripts which make it very easy to use. Just search Lutris on what you want to install, and it will pull down the executables and scripts. Boxes is another option.

It's easy to use and you can get tons of classics working with it. I recently got NOLF working with it.

I cancelled my preorder a long time ago. Did you guys try out the Aperture Desk Job? I checked it out on my PC, pretty cool I guess. Worth a download.
