Upon escaping after decades of imprisonment by a mortal wizard, Dream, the personification of dreams, sets about to reclaim his lost equipment.

A wizard attempting to capture Death to bargain for eternal life traps her younger brother Dream instead. Fearful for his safety, the wizard kept him imprisoned in a glass bottle for decades. After his escape, Dream, also known as Morpheus, goes on a quest for his lost objects of power.

Interesting cast to say at least:

Vivienne Acheampong ... Lucienne

Sanjeev Bhaskar ... Cain

Asim Chaudhry ... Abel

Gwendoline Christie ... Lucifer

Charles Dance ... Roderick Burgess

Boyd Holbrook ... The Corinthian

Tom Sturridge ... Dream

Loved the graphic novels. Been watching this one for a long time and saw the casting news yesterday.

Charles Dance would be a great fit. Less sure about Gwendoline Christie, but it's not as if Lucifer is decidedly male and she has the curley golden lockes as in the novel, so maybe it works. Less happy about Lucian. Don't know Vivienne Acheampong, but they are definitely changing the character around and that's rarely a good thing. Maybe I'll be surprised.

Lets just pray that they leave the Endless more or less intact as-written. I don't want to see Destruction as an elderly Peruvian woman just because they can.

yeah, i fear they will ruin it, but it's a tough project. Loved the graphic novel too, so i'm kinda nervous to see what they'll do with it. As for Gwen, well, i thinks she could pull it off, but it all depends on the script, as usual.

I could listen to Charles Dance read the ingredients of Oreos and be entertained. A voice like smooth jazz...

Netflix needs to hurry up with the new seasons of other shows. They keep releasing new shows then take 2-3 years to release the next "season". Then they only have 8 episodes and then another 2 year wait...assuming it doesn't get cancelled of course.

It's hard to get invested in these shows when they are so damn short.

No idea how this will work as TV series, I'm not convinced it's even possible.

& more importantly who is playing Delight AKA Delirium?

Not cast yet to the best of my knowledge... and most of the Endless probably aren't involved in season 1 anyway, unless they do some sort of "flashback" to set the stage on the cosmology.

If I understand correctly, this guy is already playing Lucifer from the Sandman series:

Netflix just dropped the teaser trailer... looks awesome. Still not so sure about the Death casting... the look is iconic at this point, but pretty excited.

The Sandman

According to Monsters & Critics

When does Netflix release The Sandman?
In the Netflix Tudum event, the streaming platform did not give away the release date but said the series is coming soon.

According to TV Guide, filming wrapped up in August 2021; therefore, fans should expect the first season in the first quarter of 2022.

How many episodes of The Sandman are there?
Neil Gaiman, who is an executive producer on the upcoming series, said there would be 11 episodes in 2019.

Rather inspired by. Just read the comics Lucifer after watching the show, and the comics are something else. Darker, Lucifer being mighty powerful, no Chloe, no love, more violence and death.

I don’t think the series Lucifer would fit in the Sandman series at all, if it is to contain the comics one.

Do like the series though :)

Lucifer is a supporting bit player in the Sandman series. His character got elaborated on from there.

In sandman he wasn't charming, good or evil. He was tired and done with hell. That's about it.

Frankly, I can't see how it doesn't get renewed. Netflix has been taking a lot of flak for having a ton of meh shows/movies, and very few good ones. They committed to bigger-better shows.

https://nofilmschool.com/netflix-new-strategy

For the last few years, Netflix has had a bold strategy when it comes to movies. It made a lot of them. It didn't matter if it was The Irishman or The Kissing Booth, if Netflix thought it would be a hit or an Oscar play on their platform, they made it. They also tried to buy prestige by giving money to auteurs. They were aggressive, and it paid off. When the pandemic came around, they were primed to release new movies every week.
..
Right now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the idea is to really pare down what they're working on, making room for mid-budget movies as well as blockbusters. They want quality, movies people talk about, that have stars in them. While The Gray Man cost $200+ million, that's not going to be the case for all their stories. Instead of making three $10-million movies and hoping one hits, they'll make one $30-million movie with the best screenplay. And hope that quality reigns supreme.

If they jettisoned one of the best/most popular shows for cost reasons at this point they'd be called out for being liars. How much better would Sandman have had to have done to be worth a second season? If it hasn't already done it, then why did they even commission season 1 as the show has already exceeded expectations in my estimation.

Now if sustained viewership doesn't happen, that might mean that Gaiman has to work with a smaller budget, which I'm sure he'd prefer not happen. Less CGI doesn't mean that you can't tell the story, you just have to be more judicious in where you spend your money.

Ahhh so there was a dedicated thread to this show! Interesting that it appears even back then they knew Death would be controversial and didn't mention her (pretty sure the link's been updated now).

Also seems like we won't get any more "bonus" eps as 11 was already planned for and fortunately got "resurrected". Though I still think 10 was a better closer.

Yeah, it had great ratings and reviews.
Second season is a lock.

Because Sandman is a really expensive show. And for Netflix to release the money to let us make another season we have to perform incredibly well. So yes, we've been the top show in the world for the last two weeks. That still may not be enough.

Looks like he's trying to pressure them into making it a done deal, but right now, it's not a lock.
