What to get if you need a vidcard now?

45min drive for me. I was there for a Crucial P5 2TB, and they happened to have 3 3090 (1 STRIX, 2 TUF), a 3070, 2 6800XT, a 5900X, 5800X, and 5700X.

I had to run out asap
So you are telling me you went into MC and did not pick up the 3090 and a 5900X? :bleh:

Email notifications are useless because mass emails are sent in batches throughout the day and delivery can be delayed by tens of minutes or several hours.

There are basically 4 ways to get a new GPU this year:

1. Prebuilt tower
2. Gaming laptop
3. Use a bot
4. Buy from a scalper at inflated price

I used the e-mail notifications to get a better understanding of the scheduling of the drops.

Then I pressed CTRL+Shift+R on the card I was looking for around the times that they usually dropped. I was looking for a week before I got the card I wanted off of Newegg Business and I paid $100 over MSRP for it. Now the card is listing for $300 over what I paid for it.

Technically I did not get the card off of notifications. I used it as a tool to give me a better understanding for when the cards dropped. Then spammed the Newegg Business site. It worked because less people are hitting up that site. So the chances of landing the card are greater than being 1 of 50,000 people hitting up the newegg.com site daily.

On a side note, I did use a bot and it got nothing. I had a couple of close calls but not much came from it. Bots were useful early on when you were competing with a few hundred people. Now that thousands of people are using the bots they are less useful.

The best technique that I could use to get the card was to time when the guy dropped them at newegg business and then spam the hell out of the page until it popped up. And it worked.

Did you manage to see the price of the 3090's?

Yeah, more expensive than the one I had gotten. :bleh:

LOL yeah, thanks for reminding me I should have gotten it from you. If you had it right now I would send paypal asap asap asap. 3090 FE paired with afterburner seems like a great combo, surprised no one else took your offer.

I also regret not purchasing the 3090 from acroig. :(. I even called dibs but then the 40 db sound at load just threw me off.

Yeah. $1979 for the STRIX before tax. $1839 for the TUF I believe.

@KAC yeah I walked out without either. I nearly grabbed the STRIX because I wanted to hook my dad up since he's still running a 2080TI, but I can't stomach $2100 after tax to help him out. I'm perfectly happy with the 3080.

I also have no interest in Zen3 since it's as fast or slower than what I have now.

I think there is 0 chance walking into my microcenter and finding a 5900x/3000 series anything sitting on the floor. I hate microcenter its musty in there and smells of nerds

I was surprised as well. I know it's an expensive card but this one was the least expensive, especially now with the tariffs kicking in.

Oh snap, he called us nerds. :(

Hello, USPS, please return back my package....

Holy crap. You guys are throwing these numbers out like they're halfway worth considering lol. Even a $500 card has me shaking my head and moving on. Sounds like current gen will be out of my range even when stocks and prices normalize.

That’s weak dude. I thought you would’ve gotten a Zen 3 and 3090 already. Also there was TUF. Damn I would’ve been all over it.

:bleh:

J/K btw.

3060 next month for $330?

I don't know why anyone would want a 2x 8pin 3090. The 3080s struggle hard enough with power limit.. the 3090 would be even worse.

No point in Zen3. I was more tempted by the 10980XE they had in stock.

That would be very tempting. For my own build, I'd probably "splurge" and step up the the 3070 if it would only hit the ~$500 MSRP.

For the work systems (graphics, video editing builds), even $330 is a stretch. I need to research their use cases, specifically if their editing apps take advantage of / get a significant GPU boost, vs what the 3700x procs provide alone. I only have a couple of Windows users in this group, and the Mac team will be getting M1 Mac builds shortly. Bang/buck very present on that side, which is a weird thing to type, being Apple lol.

Lupine, if you're really hard up for a card "for now"...we could try and make a deal on one of my 1080Ti's if you like. I have one literally just sitting here and I was going to toss it on EBay soon for as much $$$ as possible. I'd be willing to get less for it if it helps you out, within reason.

Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

The 3060Ti's is where I wanted to go for the my rig with my 32:9 Super Ultrawide(2k resolution really with it being 3840x1080). I just waffled on buying a launch card, they didn't come back in stock and then nVidia pulled that BS on HardwareUnboxed. Resulting in me voting with my wallet.

But it's an even sweeter spot than the 3070 imho. Totally a good way to go
