Bloodborne - PS4 Exclusive from Hidetaka Miyazaki

Yeah calling it a chore is actually pretty spot on to how i feel about the game. Just not having fun with it.

Previous Souls games were also a challenge of course, but in a good way where i always enjoyed the effort and it felt satisfying no matter if i succeeded or failed and i always wanted to keep trying. This game provides more frustration and disappointment than enjoyment and i usually just want to turn it off when i die.

I actually did fire it up for a bit this morning to mess around. Instantly got annoyed when i was reminded of how NPC hunters like to spam gunshot fire at you in duels which takes off 1/4 of my health per shot. Then try getting close and they parry me. Pigs are flying i finally see the bullshit in a Souls game.

End of days! I never ever in a million years thought that would come from you!

Me neither! But TBH I'm partly poking fun at it now and just kidding around. I don't really care that the NPCs spam gunfire. Like i said before i don't at all think its a bad game. Just that the design changes just don't jive with how i like to play.

 It's always come down to whether or not I am having fun, enjoying myself, regardless of what others may think of the game or my preferences with them.

I remember mentioning Nioh 2 as a co-op game to you and you may want to pass that by as well. For me, the combat is amazing, but I get a thrill out of pulling a win out when I have no heals and 1% hp left

But given what you've said here it may not be a good fit for you.100% aggression and you taking the fight to them wins most battles.

Well the thing with Nioh 2 that still interests me is the co-op support for the full campaign. My brothers and i are definitely planning to all get it and give it a go. Just waiting for an enticing enough deal on it.

Also, while similar Nioh is likely enough of a departure from Souls that it can probably stand on its own as a game and i might not have the certain expectations of it i had with BB. Either way I'm not opposed to giving it a shot.

I thought Nioh was amazing due to combat, and especially the story. Nioh 2 is hands down the best co-op experience I've ever had. Still playing it today. They're another pair of games where souls muscle memory will get you dead fast, but if you take the time to really learn the (very in depth) techniques and skills, it's just amazing :)

Welp, I had a good bit of free time tonight and was fairly caught up on other games, and since all this BB discussion its been on the mind so I'm kind of wanting to play it still. Or at least find a reason to keep at it.

I was originally planning to stick with the hunter's axe but had the idea of trying out some different weapons to see if maybe that would stimulate my wanting to play more. I tried the Kirkhammer, which I did enjoy for the smash factor. Feels good to just pound enemies with the two handed transformation. But then I tried Ludwig's Holy Blade which I know was always suggested as a cool weapon to use and yes, it is quite fun. Feels like a Dark Souls longsword and greatsword in the same weapon. Upgraded it to +6 and I'm going to use it for now.

So I don't know. I guess I've got something to enjoy it a bit more for now. When I last left off I was slowly progressing through the Forbidden Woods. Tonight I cleared out everything up to the first shortcut (there is another I found but haven't unlocked yet). All I can say now though is why did it have to be snakes.

I took Ludwig’s to +10 by end. It does it all. In transformed state it does massive stagger. Axe is too slow in general. It’s a good move to switch. Be sure and put on the rune you get at the top of the big shortcut in the forbidden woods. It allows you to bring some NPC help for the bosses at end of level. Makes it a lot easier.

Ludwig’s is the “I automatically win” weapon I referenced earlier. Pretty much the best weapon in the game imo.

I still do like the axe for its wide sweeping attack and running poke attack. So I'll be keeping both equipped for the choice depending on situation. But yeah Ludwig's blade is pretty awesome.

As for this rune, you're talking about the one given to me by that NPC "Valtr" right? Yes I got that and did join the covenant. I'm preferring to solo all bosses, but not opposed to summon in help if I come across an especially tough one. At this point I kind of just want to get through the game.

Sweet. I figured if I could just find a weapon I really enjoy it might negate some of the things about the combat I don't really like. So far it helped me wreck all the scrub mob enemies in the first section of Forbidden Woods pretty easy, and its working out pretty well for the snake head enemies now too. With the axe I was finding it tough to kill enemies quickly without also taking a hit or two, then feeling the need to jump back quick to rally back that lost health which is where things tend to get messy. But this Ludwig blade seems to be doing the job a bit better and definitely has more fun factor to it as well.

On top of that, you were right about stocking up the vials. I have about 150 in storage at the moment, so I feel like I'll be good for at least the next couple bosses (hopefully) before having to farm again. Picked up a bunch in the woods, and also farmed for about half hour in Yharnam to stock up. Just knowing that I wont have to do that for a while makes such a difference in the enjoyment of the game. Always dread the thought of running low and knowing I will have to go back to farm vials, so I figured it was better to get it out the way at once rather than needing to do it after every boss attempt. If anything I may have enough as a buffer to not need to farm again so long as I'm careful now, and keep picking up more.

Another thing I did after that was level up a bit more. Even though I was at level 40 which seemed like should be good for this part of the game I still felt under leveled. Put some more into VIT, STR, and END to get up to 46 so hopefully that will put me over the edge to make things easier to manage my frustrations.

 The scaling on that weapon is crazy too. I think I wrecked more scrubs with the thrust and jump attacks more than anything else in the game, just because it’s fun lol.

One friendly tip, knowing what’s ahead of you….the more HP and stamina you have the better.

Not like what you’re getting into though. It’s the one bit of Bloodborne that I truly hated. SD will know exactly what I’m talking about.

Don't worry about spoilers for me, I don't really care anymore with this game.

Are we talking about the next boss? I did find it already right before I quit last night - Shadow of Yharnam. If that's what you're referring to then yes it does seem to be an annoying NPC gank squad type fight. Found myself having to kite them around the room the whole time and poke at them whenever I could.

The one after them. The shadows are actually super easy if you hire an NPC…mainly because of an annoying as hell trick they reserve towards the end of the fight.

Rom can be a whole other level of frustration. Fire and 100% aggression/stamina management makes it easier though. Defensive play against it just gets you punished.

Oh yes, I know that boss fight from skipping ahead on lobosjr's Bloodborne playthrough. That Byrgerwerth area is actually the furthest ahead I've looked at, and I did see that boss. The raining down magic attack it does seems especially annoying as from what I could see you really can't tell where they will hit, so I assume that's what you're referring to for needing a lot of stamina. I will keep that in mind.

I’m sure you won’t have much of a problem with him if you’re already seen the fight. There are 2 ways to approach him. One takes time and one costs you a lot of blood

I'll try to put some more levels into stamina and health before I get there. Still got a little ways to go before I'm there. Important thing though is I have the craving to play again.

I’d focus more on vitality. The 3 hit combo with Ludwigs can stagger enough for you to easily regain stamina. Hopefully you got the increase stamina Rune. I think a couple of big snakes balls were guarding that one.

I only found two times in the game where using an NPC was easier. You can actually hire 2 NPCs against the Shadows which evens up the fight significantly. I beat them with NPCs and without. NPCs made that fight far easier, If you use NPCs, the health pool for enemies goes up a lot. So, I don’t like to use them. It’s especially nasty with Rom because every spider takes multiple hits now too. Getting to Rom was the harder fight for me (tight spaces and an annoying hunter killed me a few times). Fighting Rom was just annoying and tedious as he spams his glowing rocks attacks a lot. Just hacking away can work if his little friends don’t get you first. But, he signals an elemental attack with very obvious movements. So, they are easy to avoid if you keep one eye on him while you do the pest control. Once the pests are gone he is just a fat potato waiting for you to smack him down.

Hmm it doesn't ring a bell. I may have missed it but I have not finished exploring that whole area of Forbidden Woods past the windmill where the first shortcut is.
