Further NVIDIA "optimizations" for 3DMark03?

He said ATI tipped him off, lol... payback time. Nvidia isn't facing a wimpy opponent like 3dfx anymore. Gotta say again, this ain't your father's ATI. :)

AGAIN??!!
Wow I thought this issue was dead and a rotting corpse.
Off to read, thanx for the linky.

Wouldn't surprise me if the nv30/35 chips are actually only slightly faster than GF4's, and only because of higher clock speeds... the illusion of speed is achieved purely by benchmark cheats.

I remember when Nvidia's CEO said this of 3dfx, might have been when 3dfx bought STB, "a desperate act by a desperate company." Hey look, that quote is reusable. :)

nVidia tips [H]ardOPC about Quack3. ATI tips TechReport about 3DMurk...

Looks like TechReport and [H]ardOPC are going to go to war...a graphics card war by proxy. Then the Pabster will join in, diss them both, and display some of that famous THG arrogance...

Before anyone get's mistaken, no sh!t this is a cheat (even if you have to use a screencap, run a difference checking algorithm and enhance the image to actually see any difference) ;)

Jeezus, I eagerly await [H]'s opinion on this one given this is an 'optimisation' (hell, I don't want NV's lawyers at my doorstep unless they want the 75c I have to my name!) is something that could be easily applied to any game.

I'm sure it'll be something along the lines of "3Dmark is worthless, it's not a real game and the information came from ATI so it's tainted"

Then NV will at first say, "It's a feature....errm....intelligent filtering optimisation." A later release will say, "Our Drivers are obviously out to try and make us look bad." Finally a joint release will say, "Nvidia and our Driver Code have sat down and talked and we have agreed this is simply an 'application specific optimisation'. Namely, we have detected an application, performed specific routines and determined an optimisation to reduce the amount of filtering we feel we should have to do to increase our score to a reasonable level."

Maybe they should trademark these 'optimisations'? I have a suggestion - 'Intellib*llsh*t'.

:)

What i was actually going to post was this..

You also have to wonder...

Didnt Nvidia realize with everything else that something like this would get uncovered??? I cant believe they went this far, considering everything else.... Its pretty damn scarry. Especially with all that negotiations and agreements going on behind the scenes. And Official Statements of not cheating and getting special IHV support and the other things suggested in the Nvidia-Futuremark statements.

All the While Nvidia knew damn well they were Still doing something like this??? While seemingly threatening leagal action??

Its just unbelievable.

I thought Quack was a "bug"?
Uh ill take you up on that one.. Why not reread the thread on it on this Very forum.

Also consider that what ATi did was in the driver for a long time prior and clearly affected IQ in this specific instance. However as you pointed out this change is very subtle and not very noticable at all without getting a fine tooth comb. Meaning intentional sinister deception.

You also have to realize that this was going on at the exact same time as all the other *optimizations*..

Bottom line however that there is no doubt that both were using application detection and both affected the outcome of very big Benchmarks.

LMAO man that's funny stuff.

Thank you leech, really. :)

I'm glad the article said that ATi tipped 'em off to it, I got no problem if ATi wants to spend a little time poking around the detonators looking for some free publicity for nVidia. ;)

But JEEZES, how dumb must nVidia be to think they could get away with that?

You know what's next, don't you? I think I do...

...think about all them funny "Is nVidia the next Enron" threads the nVidiots have been saying are so ridiculous... :bleh:

Man something has to be up when just changing the name drops you almost 1000 3dmarks. ATI must have $}{|7 their pants when they found out this CHEAT... yeah Nvidia its a cheat. Just when I thought the grave couldnt be dug any further they go bring out the tractor. Man... lets see what that 5900 can do now.

Oh you mean nVron?

Or perhaps nViron
I like nVron better, it just flows... ;)

I think I read someone over at nVnews talking about it saying that it's even worse than it appears...in MurkMode the aniso filtering numbers are damn near identical to the 43.51 set of drivers.

Now, I'm not exactly sure just why that makes it worse...but I'm pretty sure someone here could clue me in, assuming I got the info right. (It's late, I'm tired!)

OMG!!......they can be doing this with any executable file!!.....heh, their gunna get screwed.
