NES Mini

There's only 2 games on it I don't have the physical game carts for, but I still want one to install ROMs on it that are too rare/expensive for me to get.

I wonder if they'll be selling it side-by-side with the snes classic, or if that one's getting cancelled?

And when is Switch getting virtual console?

It's not. Switch is only getting the online service that will give you access to classic names, they're not bringing over Virtual Console.

What I don't get is why is the NES Classic still only coming with 1 controller when the SNES Classic came with 2? Why would they not remedy this issue?

I think it was the Polygon article about the release date news that mentioned yes, it will be sold alongside the SNES Classic. Not sure for how much longer though.

I am guessing Nintendo does not care enough about it to put any resources into repackaging it with a second controller. Stupid on their part, they could easily bundle a second controller and raise the price and it would still fly off shelves.

yep, they do the same (****) over here. But, well..., the additional controller is like 12 bucks so it's not that bad. Most retailers offer them as a package

I built myself a Retropie using a Raspberry Pi 3 and a $25 NES case for it. All together (not including the controller) I spent about $80. Much better value than the NES or SNES mini. They also make SNES cases for the PI 3 too. There are multiple themes you can download and you can even download video previews and box art for all your games.

Considering you spent what it costs to get a NES or SNES Classic, I'm not sure it's that much of a better value  The 8BitDo controllers are decent, but the Nintendo controllers can't be beat, IMO.

You realize I have every game made for every system from the 2600 through N64 all available on one machine.

So? You know how much of that you can do with the NES/SNES mini right? How much is the time spent setting up that system worth to you?

I just bought a SNES-classic mini on ebay with coupon for $67 (says authentic...will see)

Apparently, there are emulators that run on the SNES classic that allow it to run pretty much everything (off a USB stick in fact) but with the simple interface my kids (almost 4 and 2.5 yrs) can use.

This hack lets you expand the roster of games considerably. (Of course, this assumes that you didn’t “fix” the “problem” by doing something like using a Raspberry Pi to create a platform for every video game ever made. This is more of an intro-level article for people who might otherwise have been unaware that this sort of thing is even possible.)

http://snesclassicmods.com/add-more-storage-with-external-usb-hard-drive-mod-for-snes-classic-mini/

You can now connect a USB flash drive or external hard drive to your SNES Classic and run games from your external drive. This is useful because many consoles like the Playstation 1, N64, MAME, or NeoGeo have large game files that can fill up the internal memory of the SNES Classic quickly. Now you can add all of the games you want and run them from an external USB drive.

My girlfriend drove to Walmart and picked up one of these for me today during her lunch break.

My only complaint is that I need to get an extension cord for the controller. Out of the box it is comically short.

Reminded me of this...

Why Spend $80 on an SNES Classic When You Can Install Emulators on a Raspberry Pi and Never Shut the **** Up About It?

Nintendo’s highly coveted SNES Classic Mini system comes out today and is certain to be a hot item. A word of advice to gamers who aren’t able to land an SNES Classic: did you know you can just buy a Raspberry Pi and remind people at every opportunity how much ****ing better you are for it?

Every time this topic comes up again someone always has to bring up the Raspberry pi argument. Never fails!

Anyways Nintendo came through again on their promise to have better stock this time. Good on them for noticing and filling demand. I managed to get two of these last year when they were in short supply but they were given to co-workers. This time decided i wanted one and was easily able to get it.
