New MS Flight Simulator (2020)

I flew it a bit after the almost 2 hour download. I fly DCS and fly in VR primarily. I flew a couple of the hornet challenges. The low and fast flights are fun and fairly easy. The carrier trap was way more difficult than DCS, it almost felt like the plane was configured all wrong. You get control of the plane with full flaps, gear and hook down. It didn't respond right to throttle inputs and was almost impossible to hold a consistent airspeed and felt like there was a strong cross wind as the nose was all over the place. In DCS, it is much easier to set your airspeed, aoa and come right in. I feel like either they are artificially making it difficult or DCS is too easy.

The Aurora mission was interesting, it's basically following a specific flight profile to hit mach 9 at 120,000 feet. I didn't see if that plane was flyable outside of that mission. Cool looking plane, but you are basically flying from instruments inside the cockpit unless you use the external cameras. It was cool being on the edge of space.

Almost sounds like a binding/calibration issue then, I had the exact opposite experience, outside of some minor throttle adjustments to keep the ball centred I barely had to touch any controls to get a 3 wire on the first go. Keep in mind the challenge is in an E model running on fumes, barely need any throttle to stay on speed/glideslope.

The carrier trap scenario in the FSX Acceleration add-on was pretty hard. I only successfully landed every one out of six or seven tries. It was hard to keep a good constant speed and hard to adjust. My recollection was part of the difficulty was that the throttle was way down left and hard to see.

Can't wait to try DLSS in VR, but I'm interstate for work atm, will try next week. I assume you just switch to beta in Steam?

You need to download the 'Xbox Insider Hub' from Microsoft store.

Once you load the app up go to "Previews" and then join the MSFS Beta program.

After you have joined you'll need to restart the machine and the beta will download the next time you start up MSFS.

It is a beta... That being said, the dlss is nice and neat. I got improved FPS out of the beta. There are a few hiccups here and there. The instrument glass is a little blurry. They are working on it though.

Err does that mean I need to reinstall the game through MS store?

If so I'll wait for steam version.

If you are waiting for a steam version of MSFS2020, you'll be waiting for eternity (hint; it will never be a steam release, the MS downloader is built into the game itself).

Also fyi, you can not play this game completely offline.

It mandates an authentication ping before the game will launch.

I wonder how long before we get FSR 2.0?

I'm seeing a bunch of people on youtube combining DLSS + FSR 1.0 in VR. Funny, I never even thought about combining them.

The game has been available from steam since it was released.

The first few beta's where only available for those that purchased the game from the MS Store but they figured out how to send them out though Steam ages ago.

You can buy it on steam, but it doesn't download from steam. Only the installer downloads from steam, then you have to use it's integrated MS junk installer which is super duper slow because "reasons". There are numerous complaints of it turning a 90gig download (which on average shouldn't take more than an hour to DL) and making it take 12+ hours to download.

I just upgraded from a 1070 to a 3060 and am wondering what settings to tweak. (I did DLSS immediately). Unfortunately still @ 1080.

I think I'll start by bumping Terrain level of detail from 110 to 120 and Object level of detail from 100 to 110.

Any input's appreciated.
