Nioh 2 PS4 13 March 2020

Started a new char to try out the fist/claws. Holy smokes those are kinda fun. Have zero range with it, but claws make you feel like ninja.

Really need to make another push at this, but also got sidetracked again and started up Bloodborne. Now I'm thinking of picking up Death Stranding for 20 during the sale. Just haven't been able to get fully behind a game in a bit now.

I have not forgotten you Nioh 2. You my bae, but so is Bloodborne. :manches:

I've been back in Nioh, WoTN. It's hard lol....I'm actually finding that I prefer a lot of the 1st games mechanics. I'm not alone either, still lots of co-op happening ...I'll get back to 2 sometime.

Ugh, it's been so long I forget most of the changes. Although I still think I like the living weapon system a bit more. Also the skill tree was a little better, felt like you had more control and less like you had to put points into something you weren't going to use just to get to something further along.

Update on Punchy McClawface: At snakey boy. Holy smokes he's rough when you have zero range. Also, going light armor was a mistake, good lord is it easy to get stun locked.

I also had this weird epiphany that the snake ladies are just a reskinned Hino Enma. I can't believe it took me this long to figure it out.

I gave up on light armor :yep: I got toughness up to about 375 and health regen on everything I could. I stay alive for 2 minutes at a time now lol.

Take a look at grace of Susano - versatility stacks your damage for each new stance used in succession. It's pretty easy to stack to 7 or 8 with the claws, for great damage gains.

Haha yeah, I dumped light for a couple pieces of medium to get me into the green on toughness and did it first shot. I am not as good at dodging as I'd like to be.

I have a bad feeling Nioh's Stam is gonna be Skyrim's stealth archer for me. Just so useful, health and better equip weight? Yes, please!

I'll take a look at grace of susano when I can.

There's a few stealth archers...I just ruined my entire DoTN build because team ninja like to switch graces with soul matching. Yeah, it warns you, but you get so used to just clicking on through without thinking about it. Damn.

That's a big oooof. Damn man, sorry to hear that.

I ended up respeccing my og character to a Dex build with Claws/Kurisagama. Figure I might as well embrace the book of reincarnation. In doing so decided to play through the DLC on Way of the Samurai just to build up my skill points and get the collectibles I need.

lol who decided to give the monkey's a switch glaive and magic? Thanks devs! Actually feeling fresh again, or I just gave it enough time off.

They did a good job refreshing old enemies and tossing new ones in with each DLC. I might respec now for the kusa too .... forgot how much I enjoyed it until jumping into the first game again recently. I don't have much to lose after screwing my build up, and there are 2 new enemies that are just tough as hell. Level bosses don't give me the grief these 2 are giving me.

Oh, the abyss is back too, but it's not the stroll in the park it used to be.

Tengu is in the bag. Holy smokes the last boss actually gave me some grief and that's with me being overleveled as well. Only have three Trophies left in it, but that's later as one is the Dream of the Demon one and the other is the pictures, which I don't think I've gotten one yet? I'll get there eventually.

Kind of a bummer that I'm doing them Samurai so I'm not getting any weapons my level, but hey, least I'm getting plenty of divines to tear apart at the blacksmith. Break time though and I'll probably start the next tomorrow.

I need to hop on Ghost of Tsushima as well sometime soon cause they're giving out costumes for other games.

Yeah, Kusa is super versatile. Low stance is a status applier, mid is good for groups with it's long range, and high just wrecks Ki and hits those hard to reach areas of Yokai's heads.

I can't remember where I got my first picture scroll...they're dropping like candy now though lol.

The DLCs seem to add humiliation upon brutality with each new one...then there's the underworld - which is the new abyss...it's hard..really hard.

I'm experimenting with different graces right now and have a pretty good self healing tank going on, but it needs some tweaking. Level 545 with 8k health and I still get one shotted if I'm not careful :o

Needs more power :p

I lied. Sat down after dinner and played some more. Spider bro down.

Haha yeah, I can see that. Got damn Minomoto or however you spell her name. She'd just spam her grapple or that knock down swipe multiple times in a row locking you in place. :hmm:

I have a feeling the picture scrolls start dropping on the harder difficulties which is why I'm not seeing them. Figure it shouldn't take me long to mop up the "base" DLCs on default difficulty. Missed the damn hot spring in Rashamon though. Gonna have to go back through and find it.

Ugh, there is just so much to this game after the first go around. I don't even know what these Graces you are taking about are right now. I'll get there soon enough though. I SHALL SEE!

That Minimoto grapple had me talking to myself

The graces are ethereal rarity set bonuses. Most of the set bonuses you see with divine gear will carry over to the higher difficulties, but you'll also get new ones when ethereal starts dropping. Some are pretty OP for really good players - which is NOT me

That versatility I mentioned is similar to Benzatin (SP? sounds like medication lol) where you get a new damage stack for switching stances after each hit....you can ramp your damage output way up....some give you an enormous life boost, or jutsu power etc...and mix and matching sets will stack damage/defense in most cases.

Side note: I haven't completed the latest DLC yet, but there's one area that is just stunningly beautiful....along with a "WTF did I just fight?" kind of boss lol.

I'm really enjoying going through this, and I reverted back to the trusty Odachi due to the need for crowd control. Whirling snow = spin to win

Yeah, I couldn't believe it. She grappled me once and I wasn't even standing again when I saw that tell tale black and white fog already priming.

Meandered my way through the rest of the Darkness in the Capital DLC. Still have the sub missions to finish up, but at least I managed to get all the Kodama in the first past through. Made the mistake of choosing the wrong sub mission first. I'm lookin' at you Ninja Gaiden. I need to see what he's weak to cause damn I can't apply a status on him nor drop his Ki. Ooof.

Don't know if it's break time to watch something or to keep going.

Also, as an aside, **** them Ox Cart yokai so much. Something that big shouldn't be that agile.

Gotcha on the graces. Just more stuff to look into, like the Penitence stuff that opened up for me. I should probably get an accessory in on that. Or is that only really useful if you have an accessory you really like?

Ahh the Odachi, old friend. I still have a Firefly blade I <3. It'll be good to finish this up and move up the difficulty so I can start getting equipment I can use. Though a purity fist weapon dropped at 150 (+2), might see about knocking that one up to 160.

The penitence stone is amazing...it will turn divines to ethereal almost every time for me plus upgrades the defence/level and value.

Hayabusa is actually pretty simple when you get his rhythm down - very much a dodge>hit.dodge really fast kind of guy...once he stuns you it's probably gonna be over. If you have lightening to apply it'll slow him up a bit too..

I'm running claws and Odachi now..if you haven't yet, you'll start getting weapons drops that have a "transform to 'stat'" on them....so if your weapon is a say...heart/courage/skill stats, and you get one that has "transform to strength" on it as an inheritable, then strength will be the major stat on that weapon.

You'll also get drops that let you transfer graces and even rarities at the smith.

You can also temper extra chances for armor/weapons/accessories drops onto your accessories.

Some of the enemies will rip your heart out, but they did a great job giving players every tool to work with :)

Oh, that ninja punk...drops some really nice jutsu and gear once you get him figured out.

I'll have to try that out, the Penitence thing.

Yeah, just a quick update. Equipped that Firefly Odachi I was talking about. Not even specced for the thing anymore and it still has +200 or so more Dmg than anything else I have. Just high stance overhead spammed his ass to death after a couple tries. Odachi cheese ftw. Big thing was just not getting caught in one of his combos that would insta kill me. "Cool, you knocked me on the ground that's neat, here comes the sword stab, annnnnnnnnnnnd I'm dead." Yeah if you could catch him when he's flying overhead he just flounders on the ground for a bit for a downed grapple attack.

Yeah haven't gotten anything like that yet. Way of the Samurai tops out at 150 for right now. Curse you! But once I get all the Kodama/Collectibles I won't have to worry about them again in higher difficulties.

Seriously my Firefly blade is just a 160 (+1), but it has Attack Bonus (Strength) on it. Which beasts it up a bit for what I'm working with at the moment. I must resist the siren call of my Odachi.

Oh I thought you were in Dream of the Strong...I'm working backwards :p I clear each difficulty doing the minimum and then go back to mop up...

See, we play differently...I figure the game trolls me, so Odachi cheese is perfectly fair :D I have a Yamato with transform to constitution on it + Attack bonus stamina, love it, but it's also insane when a weapon with base dmg of 4258 is only doing chip damage - I actually had to call in help for the new DLC final boss. Let me know what you think of that bastard when you get there.

I wonder if I can summon you into a higher difficulty level...you'd get drops that would wreck the lower levels. Just keep from getting hit. I know you could in the first game.

lol nope. On baby difficulty still. Just finished up Darkness in the Capital, still have a hot spring, three hidden trophies, and a 100% penitence trophy left. Looks like the hidden ones aren't bad to mop up later. Not sure how I missed to light all the fires, I'm usually pretty thorough, then again I missed a damn hot spring, so who knows.

That's the bit that always gets me and also drags out fights, when you do hardly anything and they wreck you in a hit. I know it's supposed to be challenging, but when a fight lasts x minutes only for you do die in the last bit, that's another x minutes you gotta go through.

Maybe? I haven't played any multiplayer at all in this so far aside from the online aspects of the revenant system.

Alright, I'm taking a break for reals this time. Figure end of Darkness in the Capital is a good stopping point. I'll pick up First Samurai tomorrow or some time similar. Although I'm probably gonna take like an hour tomorrow to go through all my damn items. Flirt with being at capacity every mission, need to just dump stuff or shove it into storage so I forget about it even harder. While I enjoy having increased soul core drop rates as they heal me, they take up precious item box space.

baby difficulty? I think DoT Samurai might be the most difficult because you can't really have a fully fledged build out until deep into 'strong' at least...After that, with a good build there's always a way to handle most of the enemies fairly simply.

I think you'll enjoy First Samurai, although the bosses are a new measure of pain....or they were for me anyway.

Is the underworld open for you in Samurai difficulty?

edit: You know...no matter how well you think you scoped an area out before going for the mini boss there's always at least one little a$$hole you miss to jump you from behind at the worst possible time. Why do I do this to myself?

I guess that makes sense in terms of a actually having a build in higher difficulties. All my stats/dmg get squished in Dream of the Samurai or whatever the default is. 1.3k plus gets squished to about 1k or so in dmg. Got to the first mid boss in First Samurai and stopped there. Deffo not in the right frame of mind to continue for the time being. Ended up going over to Way of the Strong to putz around a bit. First mission I played on Strong and got a portrait, so I'm guessing it's essentially a NG+ kinda thing.

Underworld would not appear to be open to me at this juncture in time. Doesn't look like it's open in Strong either, unless I have to clear all the main missions first.

Oh god I know that feeling. Even one little Gaki can be a pain in the ass when you're fighting something that you need to pay attention to. Love to accidentally roll back into a pool of paralysis.
