Nioh 2 PS4 13 March 2020

Yep if I understand what I've read correctly, whatever your level is gets lowered to whatever the max level for the map your in is. I'm not 100% sure about that, but it seems reasonable.

Some of the mini bosses in First Samurai are nearly level boss status. One in particular that I've run into in the underworld...dang man, no easy way to kill this thing. I put myself up for co-op in the underworld and it's always 2 or 3 of us and most times one of us doesn't survive. And it's only a "mini" boss lol.

I read up a bit on the underworld and there doesn't seem to be any hard facts as to when it unlocks....there's no way TN would keep it locked until DoTW or DoTN, that would keep so many players from getting in there. And they did it so right this time...much much better than the first games abyss levels.

edit: nevermind - you do have to unlock DoTN  It kind of makes sense though...floor one in the underworld is brutal, harder than NG+++...I'm at floor 10 now and the bleeding will never stop

DotN for Underworld? Daaaaaaaaaaaaamn, I'm never gonna see it.

Yeah, that "mid boss" in the first mission is definitely end mission tier. I had to double check when I got to him. Mainly cause I only collected like 4 Kodama by the time I got to him.

Just been tooling around in Strong for the time being. Ran roughshod all over big tiddy fire cat. Holy smokes the high tier ninjutsu water attack took like 25% of her health off when she was out of ki. I cackled when I saw it. Went on to Mount Tenno after that. Slowly working my way back to NG+ playing.

Found a portrait off a revenant that gave me Attack bonus based on my Onmyo attack power, which kinda sucks as it's probably gonna peak at 30 points just for the capacity, but good to have if I ever switch up with an Onmyo build. Also unlocked extended invulnerability frames as well, so I'll take it.

Yeah DoTN lol. Worst part is, even if you just did what you need to to unlock each difficulty, speedrun it, you would still be underleved when the underworld opens for you. Most of the graves I'm seeing are level 550ish on up, and there's a lot of them.

Granted, the co-op community is super active, so help is there, but you would still have a tough time. There are a lot of the new mini bosses around, but they're different, much stronger than in the regular DLC. I've soloed most everything and I've had two of these idiots I couldn't get past lol. Brutal.

And yet soooo addictive

Keep an eye out for the scrolls that have "Max "stats". I have a max constitution and max stamina on the same scroll - it helps a lot

So I found my limit, for the moment anyway. The new underworld is set up (not spoilery) so that, instead of removing buffs from the level boss, you gain the buffs yourself. There are 4 Kodama in each floor, each guarded by a mini boss. When you pray to each one, you gain a buff. You have to get to at least one of them to gain access to the floor boss.

Well, there's a new mini boss in the first samurai DLC that is heavily used in the underworld. If it's buffed (red or purple) forget it. For me anyway. Level 605, wrecking anything in the regular levels but for 1 or 2 level bosses which are tough....but dang man....I know they're carrying some awesome loot, but I can't make it drop it.

Floor 11 <-Lazy8s kryptonite. :p

Ooof, that's a bummer. Look at you Mr "Look at me, I'm level 605." I'm like... a third of that currently. At least I generally pick up a level or two from each mission in Strong. Also, had to remind myself to look through mission rewards so I don't skip missions that give me locks of hair or smithing texts.

Are the mini bosses suped up versions of things we've seen before or new? Like how in Bloodborne the Chalice dungeons had legit bosses that were only in the Chalice dungeons.

Edit:. Looks like a patch dropped as well. Link to the twitter post with a couple images of the notes. Looks like some Underworld stuff in there, don't know if any of it actually helps you or not?

 Leveling is ridiculous in the underworld, insane amounts of amrita, easy 100 billion like nothing. If I don't die and lose my amrita while clearing a whole floor, I'll usually have ~200-250 billion, which is 1-2 levels at that point.

The mini bosses in the underworld are just super (some of them) versions of the vanilla games bosses. So far anyway. I liked Bloodborne's style, but haven't seen that here yet.

And yes, they did patch some issues that I've seen  Especially that rotten little tanky bastard  they came up with in the last DLC. Don't know what's worse, him or the kappa.

Oooof, making my way through Strong pretty quickly. Just took out Lady Castle. Ended up having to switch to Kura for it. Fists did jack and **** to her ki. First try was a mess. Second went so damn fast it wasn't funny. On to Cherry Blossom Viewing in Daigo. Once I get through Strong I have to take a good hard look at my inventory. It's such a mess.

Edit: Also saw this that gave me a chuckle. https://www.reddit.com/r/Nioh/comments/khvqjm/hi_im_back/

Also seeing a certain bosses dual swords on revenants, but haven't gotten them to drop yet. Speak of the devil. Just got the smithing text to drop for it after the boss, but **** smithing it. lol, had 80% chance to make a divine last time I tried and got a purple. Onwards to Afterglow!

You'll be in DoTD before you know it lol. Think your inventory is messy now? Wait until it's cluttered with ethereal and a whole bunch of new graces and you want to try them all

I'm still going through the underworld, and having a good amount of fun. Much higher enemy density, and some (that new purple buff whatever it is) are just insanely powerful. I'm really learning how to refine my combat to avoid hits.

Have you run into an Itsumade yet? It's not terribly bad in the main game, but in the underworld just screw that guy  I think I've died more to it (and had co-op partners shredded more) than anything else I've seen in the game yet.

Good times :p

It is done.

Good lord I got sloppy on the Otemeakrakaratu fight. Ended up just nunjutsuing him for the last little bit to avoid dying. It was bad.

Now I'm seeing a bunch of Online quests that give locks. Curse you skill points! Probably gonna mop them up. To be fair though, Samurai locks pretty much just give me ranged attack power now. *shrugs*

Ninja Edit: Mopped up those three that gave Samurai locks in Awakening or whatever the last chapter is. Had this window up and typing it before I went back and finished them up.

Nope, no Itsumade yet. Just double checked my Yokai illustrations.

Also, holy smokes got a Kura that has Dispel Ailments (Purification) on it. As well as being a purity weapon.

Think it's break time for me though. Holy smokes I played quite a bit today. Nothing else going on here though.

EDIT: Oh hey, let's try DotD. *looks at recommended level of 250* Hmmm, I'm only 215, let's try it anyway! First fist weapon that drops is 170 (+7) with my highest weapon so far only being 160 (+3). lol I'm not gonna make it through I can tell now. Couple of the fights have taken way too damn long. Also the no burst counter thing is interesting. At least I'll have grabbed some gear before I hard exit.

Double EDIT: Holy smokes I'm pretty sure that Fist drop carried me. Also a benevolent grave helped me knock off both Mizuki and Gizuki. lol, don't know if I should just keep running that mission to get some starter loot and levels or what.

*Time for a break*

*Oh DoTD!* You're as bad as me lol.

No burst counter? You must be using a soul core box....They may have patched it by now, but the sanctity talisman used to remove that no burst thing...worth a try?

On the length of the fights....it wasn't bad for me with the versatily set bonus. You can stack to level 7 for massive damage increases. iirc in DoTD Benzaiten grace gives you that, and fists make the stacks happen fast. You'll get a little icon up top that will show how many stacks you acquire. It's pretty OP.

That said...I'm running into battles that are taking 3-4 minutes, and that's with me dealing ~4800 base damage off the Odachi lol. I think TN actually meant it to be that way, for really OP players to still have to work a bit. Then again...I'm not the best so it's going to take me longer anyway lol.

I dumped the fists btw...they're an easy "comfort" weapon for me and I want out of my comfort zone. I'm looking for a particular set of dual swords because I always sucked with dual swords, and later (DoTW I think) you get a way to make any weapon synergize with any other weapon, which is really nice.

Itsumade...you'll meet it in the final DLC. It's actually a really cool and well done enemy - until you meet it in the underworld and it does unmentionable things to you

Oh, and I just met another new enemy.

The Ancient Nyotengu - you'll know it when you meet her.

I might be in love

Yeah, I got bit by the bug pretty hard again.

Nah, nothing as weird as that. It was just that Cursed buff that some enemies get now and the game doing what it does best and explaining bupkiss on the initial tooltip, especially when it throws it at you in the middle of a fight and you spend even less time absorbing it. Some reason I was running under the assumption that you couldn't burst counter those buffed enemies so I just avoided those attacks. Herp a derp. I'm smart. Had to go back and read about it in the Amrita Memories to see what it was about.

That and me being woefully underleveled at the moment took me for a surprise. I'm sure things will speed up once I start getting leveled for content with appropriate leveled gear.

Ninja edit: Yeah, went through the first mission again no problem without summoning. It's not as scary as it initially looked.

It is kinda nice in a bittersweet way that I can pretty much safely get rid of any equipment that hasn't dropped from DotD as the affixes are much more varied now.

Not 100% sold on the Graces. They take up an affix slot and I'm not sure if the graces are that much better than another random affix. Woulda been nice if they were on top of the usual amount of affixes. Maybe it's because I don't have enough to get more bonuses yet?

I guess I was just trying to describe how many attributes an item has. Say an item normally has 4 random attribute slots. Now it seems that the Grace attaches to one of these slots, leaving you with 3 random attribute slots and the slot for the Grace. Would have been nice to still have those 4 random slots with the Grace being a bonus slot.

As of right now, without getting more pieces of those Graces, what could have been a decent random attribute is locked in at just a health bonus. Maybe they get more down the line, it's just what I'm seeing at the moment.

Hope that clarifies what I was talking about a little better.

I think I get what you're saying, but the graces are armor set attributes. They don't take up any slots on your weapons or armor characteristic slots.

Highlight a piece of divine (or ethereal gear) in your menu, then L2 to flip the card over and you'll see the grace attached to that piece. Not all pieces will have a grace set attached, but most will.

Yep, I know. It was the trade off with most of the sets. The set bonuses took up a slot that was for a random attribute, most before had 4 slots, or 3 and a set bonus. Now every piece of equipment has the set bonus and it eats up a random slot. Kind of a bummer, but something I'll just have to play around. Though higher level items might add more once I get into Ethereal stuff. *shrug*

Also, found out in hilarious fashion that Samurai difficulty doesn't squish DotD items as much as it does WotStronk. I basically just face tanked my way through all the First Samurai missions and most things just did chip damage. Good lord, Against All Comers is gonna be gnarly on higher difficulties. Also damn it, while I was doing this I switched to a weapon I barely used just to get proficiency and ended up liking the spear. Low stance is grand fun. Might have to remodel one in the near future to use Dex.

Working my way through the Soaring main missions right now in DotD. Feel a little under leveled, but then again I am. Recommended level 273 and I'm at 241 and still haven't replaced all my armor with DotD stuff yet.

Also, them steroid infused dead bodies in the shape of a bird are kinda rough.

Face tank  That's my preferred method of combat....swing wildly, mash dodge button at the same time and if that fails just run away :p

"dead bodies shaped like birds..."...you mean the Ubume? She strokes your face sweetly and gazes into your eyes before ripping your heart out through your anus? That one? Yeah we're not on speaking terms either. Irreconcilable differences  It's a cool enemy though...

I'm going to try a different build I think. Everything I've really tried so far is geared towards defense with decent damage, but I'm wondering if I can survive with a high damage, low defense ....I've been in game with guys who do massive freaking damage, but one stunlock and they're toast. Don't know if I can do that lol.

Meh, what have I got to lose? I was going to say there's nothing new in the game for me to see, but the underworld had some nasty surprises so....

 Not Ubame, Itsumade. Dude looks like a steroid freak and if you look at the model it's made up of skeletons, has two human faces, and it's tail is full of hands grasping swords. Dudes rough and is more of a boss than a "normal" enemy.

Ubume is annoying, but the Yokai skill is pretty nice. Can absolutely wreck enemy ki if you play it right.

Ugh, just spent way too much time trying to reroll a Demon Parade scroll, but I finally managed to switch out one of the attributes to Extended Dodge Invulnerability. Has a purple Life Drain on Melee Kill for 232 and a Life +263 on it. Not bad for a low level Scroll. Haven't got the cahones to try to identify any of my Scrolls of the Demon yet.

Changing things is always new and interesting. I mean, worse that happens is you're out the resources to buy a Book of Reincarnation. Only hard line I have going with armor right now is to keep enough toughness to stay in the Blue so I don't get knocked around when I eventually take a hit. I'm still rocking my level 160 Tatenashi boots cause they have Faster Winded Recovery. I really want to swap them out for increased defense, but... winded recovery. Haven't found a replacement yet for them. I mean, I could sit there and try my luck at the Blacksmith, but I'm wearing mostly stop gap temporary things at the moment and don't want to invest too much in anything.

Oh THAT bird freak  Yeah I just 10 minutes ago ran away from one crying like a little girl :p I took one on in the underworld and won...took about 4-5 minutes, so I got cocky in the next level and yeah...didn't work out very well :D

Picture that bastard with the special purple buff, even purity doesn't slow it down.

FYI if you haven't seen it yet, you can roll luck bonuses onto your accessories for armor, weapon and accessory drops specifically at the smith, and it works very well. And the Abducted mission, don't remember the area, is notorious for dropping divine accessories right at the very start. Yasakani Magatamas too

I do have to reroll...I've been doing really well soloing all the floors up to level 36 in the underworld, but damn man, 37 is slicing and dicing me. I might try a corruption build with some kunai thrown in there. I need to stay further away. The kicker is that the gear drops are just insane - I'm getting level 200 45+ gear, but not what I want...not the grace for the build I want.

Meh...I've got time, so what's another 100 deaths eh? :p

I don't think I'm going to beat DoTN in the regular game...I get to an area that used to have an Enki. Now it has an Itsumade...and you're practically forced to fight it on a ledge. Ok, it sucked but I got it. Get through that pass and stroll around the corner for an.....Itsumade...

We get it Team Ninja, you're rightfully proud of your new bad ass boss bird...but come on guys....It's tougher than most of the bosses in the game.

sigh...
