Nioh 2 PS4 13 March 2020

Oof, that's rough. Sounds like poor design too, unfortunately. Less is usually more. Especially as I didn't find those guys particularly fun to fight either.

Just finished up Ice Man in Demon. Feeling underleveled at this point, but I'll keep plugging along, grind out some levels and maybe find some gear. It's been like three "chapters" since I've gotten an upgrade to my fists. :( Maybe I just got lucky? Who knows. Lord do I need to find Faster Winded Recovery. That **** is deadly now that I switched my boots out.

Probably going to slow down though as my neighbors got home yesterday and I've already had to move my stuff to my bedroom to get away. Laying down in bed to play is not that comfortable. I shouldn't have sold my non pro PS4 so I wouldn't have to keep moving it from room to room. Just means I need to find a PS5 right? ;)

Your neighbors sound like a barrel of laughs :bleh: About as much fun as fighting itsumade :p It's a great "wow" factor the first time, and an adrenaline rush if you have help, but just a slog when alone and low on healing.

I've got my guy somewhat rebuilt and it's working well. With an awakened weapon damage stacks about 60% which is really sweet, and toughness is @393A now, so even Itsummade can hit me a couple of times and I still have a chance to stay alive. Not too bad. The only real weak spot right now is the one you're facing with winded recovery....I need to co-op some for various umbracites and do some tweaking at the smith....I'm actually winning most battles with the permanent cursed (purple) enemies now. Tough, but man they have some spectacular drops pretty regularly.

There's also a mechanic in the underworld for upping + values on drops, strength, higher level gear etc that carries into the regular game, so I might just try that Itsumade level again because I take it personally when I'm slapped around enough

Oh yeah, they've been loud **** heads since they moved it. I gave them the benefit of the doubt for a while and after having worked 9 days in a row one week I had enough of their all weekend bullshit. Called the landlord on them and the response I heard through the floor that night was "**** the guy upstairs." They've since been just as loud anyways, I'm getting tired of not even being able to be in my own living room anymore. And these are "nice people looking for a quiet building" in the words of my landlord. As far as I can tell, they only want quiet for themselves. This will most likely be night three in a row I can't stand to be in my living room and it's New Years so I'm just gonna have to eat it. Have a feeling I'm going to have to leave my apartment tonight for a walk to cool down. Like last night I could hear their music in my bedroom.

Yeah, it was a surprise seeing him the first time. I think it's just that there's so many 360 degree attacks from him that demolish Ki when blocking. A lot of stuff is usually OK to guard and not get wrecked. Maybe I haven't fought enough to see the "weakness" yet.

I actually like cursed enemies cause usually they are a loot pinata. Though that might be that they aren't too bad in Demon yet. Kinda annoyed at how resilient they are to element effects though until burst countered. :/

Haha, yeah. Ended up using a Fabled Umbracite on my gloves to get me Faster Winded Recovery. I broke down and just took a look at the Blacksmith and it was in the first rotation of my gloves, so out went +2.5 water resistance and in went Winded Recovery. I'd say it was a good trade.

Edit: Damnit. Just picked up a fist weapon that is already higher damage than what I use and it isn't even max familiarity. Problem is. There is no inherent element on it, which kinda bums me out. Looks like I'm takin' it to the blacksmith to figure something out! Block+12% on Critical should be OK to get rid of. Swapped it out with a Fabled for +8 Lightning. Lets see how that works for me right now.

I would have to take action :yep: I couldn't live like that, not with idiots like that. Nope.

I got my ki in order, and not sure what else I screwed up  I haven't gotten winded the last 2 sessions but for the odd hit by a dweller or something, but man....I got one shotted by average soldiers twice. How TF does that happen? 8475 HP, 393A toughness now....

I don't understand how this game calculates hits  I'm quitting for the night because screw those guys :p

Yeah, I'm still surprised they haven't gotten the Rona from what I've seen. They consistently had people over for entire weekends for much of the Summer. Just one of the reasons I'm looking at alternative places to live, which sucks cause I actually like my landlord. Most likely looking to buy though. We'll see what next work season brings.

That's good to hear, the Ki bit.

Haven't played for a few days, started poking around again last night. Still moving at a decent clip, but got to the Spear Dingleberry before Shibata and pretty much just made a face and turned off my PS4.

Also, interesting tid bit. There's the one mission called Abduction where you fight a bunch of "child"-like yokai and fight an Ubame at the end. There's a summonable child for 0 cups that if you summon and bring with you, you fight a Tesso instead and an Ubame shows up, thanks you for keeping the little one safe, and gives you some items. I was kind of surprised by this, it's a cool touch. It's always hard to tell if the dev NPC summons do something special or not.

Best of luck finding a place man...it's so nice not having to deal with people one wall over...

That spear idiot...Mataza?? is one of the most annoying fights in the game. He's in the underworld too.. so I just Odachi his annoying ass to death :p

In Spider's nest castle there's an blue dev grave you have to hire in order to unlock another mission, but I don't remember the name of it, and A Prayer in the Moonlight you have to hire the blue grave NPC to complete the mission...there's another but I can't think of it at the moment...

Oh...Itsumade....got that bastards number. I've killed the last 5 or so. Baku GS talisman > Nightmare bringer soul core ability > Gozuki charge. Wrecks his ki fast and screw that big bird bastard :p

ugh, mentioned a certain boss above and just ran into him in the underworld. I really hate this guy....

One thing...I really need to learn how to tweak a build in depth...high toughness and high dps got me this far, along with a little skill, but I'm not going to clear the underworld levels without some serious fine tuning and being better with skills.

Oof, yeah he's not that fun. Remembered you just kinda gotta side step most of his stuff and attack from behind. Also, played last night and finished up that level. He gave me more gruff than Shibata this time... which is a complete 180 from my OG playthrough.

Haha yeah, I think the only reason I knew about those graves that opened up Missions was when I was going through trying to get the trophy for all missions complete. Broke down and had to look them up cause there is no way I woulda done it otherwise.

I had to look the graves up too lol.

4. more. levels. and I won't have to worry about amrita any more....then I'll start monkeying with builds. I've been in with a couple of players that are doing massive damage and doing it quickly..so I know it can be done, I just have to figure it out.

It is good.

Wonder if they're gonna start a thread in pc or just come here.

Progress update: Managed to get an hour here and there, but am now in Way of the Wise and realized what a jump equipment quality is from Demon to Wise. That 170 (+16) fist weapon that I had fostered lovingly with soul matching to have it get so high the damage was squished? Gone after the first mission with an ethereal weapon. Least it's given me the heads up to dissemble anything below level 180. Should free up a ton of inventory. Also Transformation is a tease. Oh cool a new fist weapon. *Transformed to skill* cool, off to the disassemble pile you go. Didn't help that it was an inheritable so I couldn't temper it to something else.

Gratz on DoTW lol. You should be able to level up to 200 per spec now too. I don't think that's DoTN only. Start watching your damage output go through the roof lol.

I'm on floor 66 of 108 floors in the underworld. Slow, but I'm determined to plat this if I can. I'm still trying to get comfortable with the switchglaive. I had to dump the Odachi because it just trivializes too much, even at this level. Way OP. Although if I start getting crushed I'm going back to it.

This is an eye opener. Every time I think I'm good and can blast through enemies I get wrecked again, but it's addictive, so I keep going back :p

Hahahahahaha, I just had a Revenant I almost couldn't take out. ****er had auto heal. No idea how, had to poison him and burst him down to get past it. Was insane.

Still working on Wise. Think it's two or three areas I need to go through still? At the Shibata mission right now. Started using a spear as secondary as I managed to get one with Attack Power (Dex) that I retooled to be Str. That boosted that up a bit. Managed to get a Fist with the same thing and hoo boy, that things dmg is through the roof in comparison to my other weapons. Also managed to snag a Yakasana my level finally. Took forever. Kinda wish set piece bonuses scaled like graces.

Wearing a hodge podge right now, but somehow managed to get up to 4 Susano. No real build at the moment, but I seem to be doing ok so far. Have a feeling I'll need to get serious in the next difficulty. I have an ultimate strength scroll I'm sitting on. Haven't felt brave enough to try it though.

 You're going to run into some tough revenants for sure. One shot me in the face. One shotted

Do that scroll dude. Some of them have multiple 'ultimates' and it can make a huge difference. You'll see (iirc) demon picture scrolls (easy) scroll of the wise, scroll of the nioh and scroll of the damned eventually. Those last are brutal, but the perks are insane. Its also the place where your build needs to be tight.

I cleared the underworld (108 floors) and now am in the depths. I think TN made a rotten decision here as you can no longer summon help. Players can co-op in expeditions, but plain old summons nope. And you have to clear blocks of floors all at once. I cleared 1 and 2 - imagine my suprise when I started at 1 again next time in. Turns out players have to go through floor 5 of the depths to progress.

I'm starting to get that "Why do I do this to myself?" feeling again  :p

edit: I meant to add that the RNG in this game just absolutely sucks. Everything is available until you want to shoot for a specific planned out build, then it never drops again lol.

Yeah, I had never seen auto healing like that before. Kept doing combos and was "Why is his health not going down?"

I just looked up what Ultimates were. Damn they are interesting, also I'm nowhere near being able to use one. I have two stats split (Str, Dex) at about 100 each, so not close to the 150 threshold needed to activate it.

Look at you just cruising along.

It's nice that it seems to at least drop the weapons you have equipped more often than others. At least it seemed that way when I had a spear equipped, they were dropping like candy. I'm sure I'll have to mod an accessory with a bunch of Lucky Drops when I finally get to the point of actually having a real idea, but I'm gonna see how far I can Mr Magoo my way through before that happens.

Edit: Still no idea how level recommendations work. I'm almost 100 levels behind the missions I'm working through at the moment. Think I'm 380 something and doing missions that recommend 450. I need to find a good farming level it looks like for Amrita. Or just go through my inventory and use all my amrita consumables.

Edit 2: Think I might go towards a Health Regen on Amrita gain, cause holy crap, I have it on a chest piece and it's hilarious watching my health overfill when I go ham in low stance when they start shedding amrita. Have a feeling that it won't be as good in the upper ends cause even taking a hit is gonna be bad news, but could be fun.

I'm running a health/anima regen tank build right now. It needs serious tweaking, but even now I can take several hits from nightmare bringer before I'm in trouble. Once it's done (If the freaking RNG cooperates) I should be able to handle anything in the game. I hope lol.

nope. Just nope no no way lol. I'm beginning to think I'll quit the game before beating all the content.

- That whole "challenging but fair" idea that people like to apply to the Souls formula? nah, that doesn't apply here. You can go from not seeing a single enemy to being swarmed by 5 of them in the depths.

- I can take down some of the toughest mini-bosses, and then at full health get one shotted by one stupid sohoya.

- this area of the game, scrolls of the damned included, are designed to simply kill the player no matter what. I can kill a cursed yatsu 1v1, but then a lousy stinking dweller slaps me, ki is tanked and a stupid little gaki bites my head off and kills me.

Major credit to the players that figure this out and beat it. It's literally maddening.

Hahahaha, I just ducked out of doing Shibata. Tried him a couple times and was all "Nope, not feeling it." and moved the hell on. The joys of having all missions open on NG+ with this series.

Right now I'm bombing around in DLC side missions. Accidently picked the one that actually had a boss and fought Nue. He's hard in any circumstance. Might just skip to Otemakaru or however you spell it to see if I can just fight my way to Nioh difficulty. Think all my items are at least 180 (+25) right now. I'm so close to Nioh difficulty.

Edit: Otempatomkin is down. Way of the Nioh is unlocked.

Edit 2: Playing the first level of Dream of the Nioh and lol, the amrita flows like wine. Jesus. Had enough for 6 levels by the first Shrine.

You're going to wind up beating the underworld before I do  My luck is 86 in the hut, using luck talisman and tempered luck perks...this game will not give me what I want lol. It sucks when I think I might have to change plans just because the game wants to be a tightwad now

Oh...standing in a depths of the underworld arena after killing the boss, innocently going through my loot when the SECOND boss I never saw coming one shots me from behind. I don't like Team Ninja very much right now  These guys ....
