Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Update Introduces Game-Changing NVIDIA PhysX Effects

Assasin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was patched to include Turbulence effects
Eh it looks nice but I can see the smoke getting in the way of trying to effectively kick the crap out of the enemies. Will check it out as soon as the game is finished patching.

Demolishes frames for such little impact on the game.

Im convinced borderlands 2 is the only game that has done physx right.

I noticed this as well. Even more of an issue for me as I have vsync on because of the screen tearing. I should probably try poking around nvidia inspector to see it I can fix that some how.

Yeah, it's destroying frame rates for me. down to 35fps from locked 62fps. turning that off now lol

Personally like dynamic smoke and would imagine that the shadows with the dynamic smoke may need more performance maturity with future updates.

Curious to see improvements moving forward.

In addition to technology Fur what other effects will have with the advanced PhysX? Will be optimized properly?

At the moment, we use a system of destructibility and leaning to the APEX cloth simulation. We are doing everything possible to optimize it on our own and we are always in contact with NVIDIA to ensure we achieve the best performance in development. There are various factors that determine what effects the simulation will run smoothly on your PC and the GPU is one of these

I was curious about the destruction level for Hawken:

When is the Destructible Map being released?

Jason Hughes:
NVIDIA has been working on making improvements to their APEX libraries and tools for us over the last few months. We’re already getting close to about a 30% improvement in performance over the demo map that we showed at GDC and an important feature will be added to the toolset for us shortly to help boost improvement even more. We haven’t been able to dedicate engineering resources to really make use of the tech yet as we’ve been focusing on other higher priority issues. We also want to finish two maps that are already in the pipeline before we resume work on a destruction focused map.

I know some have been curious about if this is something we plan on retrofitting into old maps but I can confirm that we will be using the technology for a new map and won’t be reworking old ones with destruction. Destruction isn’t something we want have in a map ‘just because’ and we’re making conscientious decisions to present it in a way to provide the greatest amount of impact possible. Right now we are taking more of a direction to make it a map for Co-Op so we can help create some more impressive moments. That decision is subject to change of course but we won’t have a destruction map out for you until at least early 2014.
