Playstation Classic Announced

rise of the mini consoles!

I need me a SNES mini (recently picked up a NES mini), and maybe ill look into this....I already have a working PSone so I dunno if this is worth it for me.
Plus I was always more Nintendo fanboy than Sony.

I hope they don't end up including trash like toshinden just because of nostalgia, include good **** like vandal hearts, ff tactics, and xenogears instead.

Saw it this morning and was pretty excited, but not surprised. I was wondering when Sony would jump on the retro bandwagon.

Looks like they've only officially announced 5 or 6 of the advertised 20 games. Guess we can start theorizing about what other games it will come with. They have to include massive titles like Symphony of the Night and Resident Evil for sure.

It's not going to happen, but I would have loved to see stuff like "the playstation classic RPG bundle".

The psx library is too huge to be contained in a bundle of 20 games.

Yeah licensing from Konami for Castlevania might be a problem. You never know though. As for the amount of games in the PS1 library, well its got a lot of shovelware. I think you could definitely just pick out 20 games that are synonymous with what you think of with PS1.

My initial thoughts are I think $100 is a bit too high, at least comparing to Nintendo's products. The NES Classic was $60 and the SNES $80. For $100 Sony could have at least offered more than just 20 included games, or do something bold like really do one up on Nintendo and include wireless controllers.

That said I feel like I'll still be compelled to buy this simply because of nostalgia, and especially if it gets hacked quickly.

I wonder how big the internal memory is, and if it's as easy cracked like the nes/snes mini so you can add your own stuff.

I like the ideal of it, but those 20 games won't sell it to me. Of course, I've kept my PSX games all these years, so if it has a cd rom drive, or can be hacked to add images, it would still work for me.

Choosing 20 games from the PS1 library is an impossible task. Hopefully the hackers will do good work on this one! Otherwise, the case looks large enough to house a raspberry pi.

And yes, 100 bucks might be a bit steep.

I just want PS metal gear solid.

It would be a crime if that game is not included.

Since the announcement I think what I have been wondering the most is why the decision to announce only 5 of the 20 games. I just find it to make more sense to show all the games now. Unless they haven't secured licenses for every game they want yet, and they are gauging interest from the public before they shell out money for the bigger licenses? I don't know, just seems a weird decision to not show us all the games.

Its difficult to re-release MGS, I think because Nintendo bought the permanent rights to it during the gamecube era. That's why it's missing from all the metal gear collections.

MGS was available on the Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection released in 2013 on PS3, which I own. It wasn't on the disc but the game came with a voucher code to D/L it from the PlayStation store. So they retain some kind of rights to it.
