Why would anybody wait for a card that has so little stock.
Here is a reliable review of the 3090 STRIX from ASUS. Looks like the 3090 really can achieve 20% faster performance than a 3080 which equates to about 20FPS or more performance at 4K resolution. It's beating the 2080TI by 56% which is solid. Very nice card but unless you use the quiet bios it's pretty loud and that price is pretty bad. It's pretty impressive that they can keep this 350 watt card at 68C and when overclocked it pulls 480watts and still stays at 75C or lower. Very nice cooling potential.

I've been checking out 5k and 8k and pleasantly surprised, thought it would be much worse. By seeing this, I've changed my thinking for waiting for the 20 gig sku, so I can have the choice to use 5k and 8k with Dsr without memory limitations in some titles.
I agree that I'd certainly want better framerates at 4k. The whole point is moot because you still need to get an 8k display. My only point is, if someone really wanted to play at 8k and had the means, a bunch of these games DO seem actually playable. Without DLSS and no need of resolution hacks.
Again, the key word here is playable. Obviously none of us would call it a great example of a PC gaming experience being 30-45fps.
Well, it's 18% faster at it's bass OC and then they can strangle another 3% out of it. Really, I don't think the Overclocking numbers are worth the extra power draw even if the temps are under control. Still, I'm happy to see that the 3090 can go 20% faster than a 3080 as long as the board partner is man enough to allow 390watt power delivery. 390watt power delivery with 20% performance over a 3080 and more than double the VRAM @ 68C is pretty sweet. The 3080 is locked at 320 watts and that is what separates the two more than anything else. It's 50% or more above the 2080TI with the VRAM that I wanted. I'm just not liking that price. Of course we won't be able to buy one anyway so...Not going to lie, if I could buy one right now I probably would.
Yeah I agree. If 30FPS is considered playable then it can be done without DLSS. Even with DLSS most titles will struggle for 8K60 which is why I'm not really worried about 8K. If I have the power to achieve 60+ FPS with 8K DSR on my 4K panel, then I will use it. That is why I'm happy about 8K DLSS. I still have plenty of old games like stalker and GTA that I wouldn't mind trying to force 8K DSR/DLSS. Will anyone be able to to add DLSS support for older titles via modding though? Doubtful. I'm still pumped about playing command and conquer remaster at 8K DSR 120FPS though.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3090 powering older games like STALKER at 8K DSR without the need for DLSS and that would be very cool for me. I always love pushing every ounce of quality out of my old favorite games. I play alot of older titles still.
What I was getting at, is how does it compare to the base OC 3080 Strix.
It’s the same logic but reverse of the people that claim card A isn’t better than card B because you can OC card B and get the same performance as card A completely ignoring the fact that you can OC card A too.
I think 8K is just a pipe dream at this point. It's not clear that public demand is high even for 4K, let alone 8K. We're probably at least a decade off from that being mainstream, if it ever is. At some point the difference gets small enough that the average consumer just isn't going to care, so it's possible 8K never catches on.
Even as a super tiny niche, anyone trying to run 8K right now is basically looking for an excuse to make themselves miserable, because the performance just isn't there.

Overlocking doesn't really net that much performance for me.
10600 points vs 10900 points on firestrike ultra.
