You get used to it

I think my problem is playing mostly competitive games, it becomes imperative to see all within FOV without neck movement.

Perhaps that's different for things like COD, or maybe even Valorant, but I can't imagine the mouse travel/head panning I'd have to do in League of Legends.

You play Dota don't you? Hows that on it? I really strongly considered the 42" C2, so I tried my 50" LED I had just to get a feel for the size, and I really don't think that's something I can adjust too, but then again, my desk is fairly narrow aswell without a way to sit further back.

Could you wall-mount it?

I haven't played DOTA or any MOBA in years, honestly. I still play some competitive FPS.. but my gaming time has diminished greatly since I bought my house.

I don't really notice much issue with mouse travel. Head panning is not as bad as you'd imagine once you get used to it. I want to push mine back another 2-3, maybe 4 inches, and then it'll be perfect. Looking at wall mounting it on a swivel arm so I can regain desk space and also get it further back slightly.

I sit pretty close to it right now and I don't think it's that bad. Definitely took a few days to get used to it. Using a CX48 currently.

I just ordered the new Samsung G8 Neo 32" 4k 240hz, should be here Friday.

I know I wont get 240hz at 4k in AAA titles, obviously, but I mostly play league of legends/valorant.

I had ordered the AW3423DW, but it's just too long on back-order, and mostly playing league, the ultrawide kinda messes with camera movement.

As someone who went through 6 of the G7's, my hopes aren't high, but maybe the G8 will be decent enough. I'll almost certainly return it though.

I have 2 OLEDs in my house, and really would like one as a monitor, but even the 42"er is too big for me. I really don't understand how you guys use them.
Tell me about that G8. Why did you go through 6 or 7 G7?

I really want that C2 42”, but not for $1400. Microcenter will probably have refurbished units for cheap soon enough.

I'm using a 48" c1 as a monitor, but I'm still interested in monitors like the neo g8.

Oled is great, but I kind of want something that doesn't need any kind of babysitting again.

I’d love to have a g8, but that’s pricier than the c2 here, by about $100. I can get a c1 for $899 though.

Add to that the fact that there’s no going back after using an OLED. A less quality screen just won’t do.

^Yes and I'm not going back either. Keeping my new C2 42 for the games IQ. And movies too. But I still admit there were some dazzling eye popping IQ with my old 2021 Samsung Neo Qled Fald 43" tv which I no longer use. I occasionally miss the outrageous, some would say not natural, color vividness. Even some reviewers say its HDR is better than LG Oled is some gameplay. You can read the CNET praises of it (the QN43QN90A) although it says the C2s have better overall IQ of course.

And that Samsung model has the issue of bright halo and overbrightness obscuring detail in brighter objects in some places. That's a downside to the nature of led we've read about and experienced.

Another issue with Samsungs range in recent years is that contrast ratio has dramatically dropped. Not sure why that is. My 2018 Q7FN has double the contrast ratio of the new QLED NEO variants (QN90/95 etc).

Thoughts on C1 65" vs C2 55"? The C2 is about $100 cheaper here. I haven't seen a C1 in person in a long time but from memory it seemed rather dull compared to vibrant QLED that I'm used to. Sure, it had 'inky' blacks though. C2 is approx 25% brighter than C1, and I do like a bright image.

So the G7 Neo came in last night, the G8 Neo comes in today. Played a little bit with the G7 Neo.

You'd be very surprised how close this is to OLED. In fact, I'd bet in games you could not tell a difference other than how much brighter the G7 is.. I have both a Sony A80J, and LG BX55, and can confirm this is just as good, and brighter. The VA panel definitely helps take out the bloom aswell.

There is no FALD grid either

It's actually a very nice monitor, my only complaint is the stand is completely garbage, if you barely touch the desk, the stand amplifies the movement and shakes the screen.

How free from the usual VA problems are the samsung panels?

Can they handle games like axiom verge that has a bunch VA-unfriendly pixel art without much ghosting?

The G7 Neo has a mini-led FALD with 1,196 zones no? So you combine that with both Quantum Dot and VA and your pretty much maxing out current LCD tech to make this work. Assuming Samsung's monitor division has gotten better at tuning that FALD as it was a nightmware on the G9 Neo.

It's pretty good, tbh. There is no overscan, no scanlines, no flickering, no ghosting, VRR works on Gsync.

Just this stand is so awful.

G8 is delivered, will test and compare when I get home, from what I read on reddit though, the G8 shows 1015 nits in display HDR test, which is the same as the G7 neo shows...

I'm willing to bet they are actually the same panel, same LED panel, same VA, everything, just no HDMI 2.1, and not pushed as hard on the hz. I was really expecting the G7 Neo to be an IPS panel, and the G8 being VA (this is how they did the Neo series TVs, Q85 Neo/90 were IPS, Q95 was VA).

The G7 Neo is giving you close to OLED IQ in games?

I would honestly, legitimately say, this looks better than my Sony A80J. the A80J just can't compete in brightness, there's no way. If you can get past the very mininiscule bloom on this, I'd go this over the OLED TV. You can _only_ notice blooking on pure black screens with loading logos, I have not yet been able to notice it on anything else, not even on youtube FALD test.

The only other thing I can think while typing this is on FALD test you do get that 'backlight strobbing' effect as the solid white ball moves across zones, but it still somehow manages to not bloom, I don't really understand how, it must be the VA just punishing them out.

To be fair, I also had a Q95 Neo TV that was amazing, and 10x as bright as my A80J but I returned it for the A80J because blooming was awful on it. (700 zones/65").

Thanks ! I think I might shop around for one. I’ve been struggling with monitor shopping (price vs quality of course) and this gives me a target. Thanks again :)
