If you want any specific test/pics let me know.

Thanks man, you pretty much covered it. I would be using it for about 20% gaming and the rest split between photo editing and business kind of stuff.

I also found some short real world reviews on YT about it, and for my purposes it would be practically perfect. You just confirmed what others were saying.

Full disclosure: I did kind of gloss over the gaming reviews as that’s mostly on my CX. And I’d probably get a desk mount and get away from that stand….

Now I am lost. What is difference between G7 NEO and G8? I have the G7 from 2020. What will I see?

G7 Odyssey 1440p VA panel, HDR 600

G7 Neo 4k, VA panel, 165hz, 1196 Mini LED back lighting 1000 nits 'supposedly'

G8 Neo 4k, VA panel, 240hz, 1196 Mini LED back lighting, 2000 nits 'supposedly', hdmi 2.1

I say 'supposedly' because both new neo panels are not HDR certified, because their ABL cannot output 2000 nits in more than IIRC a 10% window, so in almost no situations, samsung chose a higher number than a certification this round. Realistically they are HDR800~1000 panels, and they both show up in windows as 1015 nits capable.

Now there might be some color space, gradient differences, response time differences. but that's the jist of it.

Forget what I said.

Get the G8.

And yes, it's better than the OLED TVs, there is no longer a question.

EDIT***

After watching more, how in the hell, can they make anything better than what the G7 Neo is, I genuinely did not expect there to be a higher ceiling for Mini LED there is. It's the G8.

Double EDIT***

I think I figured it out, it's not the brightness difference, there is a perceived brightness difference, but they output about the same. The VA panel on the G8 is clearly different, or the G7 is in-fact, an IPS like they did with the TV Neos.

I couldn't even find the right words to convice you how good this is, it just is, I can't even explain it.

Triple Edit**
There is zero bloom on this, what bloom you 'may' see in the picture is exposure.

This is the G7 Neo

Better than OLED how?

Much brighter, no burn in, faster refresh rate, and no zero bloom. The contrast is just as good as OLED, as far as I can compare the to. I'd take this over either of my OLEDs any day (for monitor use), I still don't think you can beat the A80J for Movies.

Thanks buddy. I think I will bite on the G8 NEO 240 Hz. I am spoilt by Hz. I also find the G7 pretty damn good for daily use and don’t care much for HDR.

It's physically impossible for the contrast to be "as good as OLED"

Glad you found a monitor you're happy with

I was a little confused on the product page for the G8 cause it was touting 21:9 resolution

Yeah I have been seeing more of that. The LG's OLED G2's have a official ultrawide modes as well(both 21:9 and 32:9)

I was about to order but the damn thing costs more than an LG C2 42. Samsung please suck my dick.

I decided against the G7. I’d rather have G8 quality, but yeah KAC, it’s no way for me. I’ll grab a C2 42” one day.

You aren't wrong, we are talking about different things. The brightness allows the perceived contrast to actually be greater. Just because one is 'infinite', doesn't make it better, because the white is overly dull, as are most other colors. And the overall brightness gets overrun by other light in the room from lights, windows, etc. That is why I feel this is better, more-so for a monitor. Not even factoring in the no burn in, faster refresh rate, less ABL, and other things I'm sure I'm not thinking about.

Speaking of the 42" c2, I hope someone releases a version of that with a heatsink, and gives the user the choice between brighter highlights or just better anti-image retention with the normal brightness.

I'm always torn on this. I like the pure blacks and the amazing real contrast depth that allows in how dark scenes look. Now if the room is bright, that advantage goes away abit. So for my HomeTheatre setup, that's a clear n' easy win for my C1 60" OLED. As I darken the room. But for my computer setup... I often play with the the room lit and I don't darken unless it's a game that really benefits.

The monitor market is a joke, LG want C2 money for their upcoming 4k 32" hdr1000 displays, there's one catch though, it's edge-lit with 32 dimming zones.

They just need to make - 35-38 inch OLED and I will be all over it. Can charge me same as a 55 inch for all I care.

Why would anyone want to spend money on that rather than the C2??? That’s crazy.

Lots of people don't like the size, even at 42".

I've found that ever since I've moved to the CX48, I've been avoiding playing FPS games.. which used to be the majority of what I played. It's just too big, and too close.

I'm considering grabbing the Samsung G8 and trying it out .. I can return to Microcenter if I don't like it. I just don't like that stupid curve on a small 32" screen.. and VA panel is meh.

That makes sense. I’ve been using a CX 55 for some time now, so the perspective is a bit different as 42” seems small.

I didn’t really want multiple monitors, but I’m starting to wonder if that wouldn’t be the best solution for me.
