Demon Soul (PS3)

Peeve's just recently made a headbutt video. The madness starts at around 5 minute mark. Notice the right hand weapon.

So I'm very late to the party, but I've been playing this recently. Havent been invaded at all sadly (was playing in bodyform a while before i knew dying in that form hurts world tendencies) but I do see a lot of ghost, bloodstains, messages (some useful, some very funny!).

In tower of latria there was this sign that was set right before an item and said "real demon souls starts here". So i pick the item up (fluted set) and get "OVERBURDENED!!!!".   Luckely i could fat roll (with herculian ring) my way back to the nexus.

I started as a templar knight and bought the claymore which is now at quality +4. I also got the estoc up to +3 (regular upgrade) as secondary equipped. Got it up to this level very fast to be honest so the upgrade of weaponry doesnt seem as "slow"/staggered as say ds1/3. Ive only leveled str/dex (26/22) and vit (21) atm, and I killed yurt (i knew about this guy) so wearing his chest armor/leggings, with wizard guantlets and assassin mask.

I've done worlds 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 and 3-1. Now I'm trying to figure out where to go in 3-2 (no tips/hints needed though) which is fun - ive basicly lowered the fat blob by killing the fire praising hollows. The bosses havent been too hard, although tower knight took a few deaths with the starting halberd (not upgraded). It wasnt until i went back and bought the claymore that i much easily could hit his damn feet :D 1-1 and 2-1 boss were first tries. Flame lurker i got on second try. Dragon boss (i also got the dragon bone crusher!) took like 10-20 deaths, i stopped counting haha. 3-1 was the original pinwheel i guess (i had already spoiled myself about killing the guy upstairs from years ago so i knew i had to do that).

What can I say - getting to play a souls game for the first time is always great, and demon souls is no exception.

As a small sidenote: I've been playing ds1,2 and 3 all using keyboard and mouse only. Being 'forced' to a controller was a tad hard to get used to (I'm still not) and makes the game much harder.

There are ghosts in DeS that are not other players. You'll see them in the game here and there even without an internet connection. Same with messages. Bloodstains I think might all be other players, though who knows for sure.

World tendency is tricky. There are events that require specific world tendencies, and it's not only affected by your own deaths but deaths of other players on the server. If you need to manipulate the tendency towards white in some point, it's best done offline. The tendency tends to shift towards black in my experience, though with limited number of players anything can happen.

You must the first person ever to say that using a controller makes the game harder...

Yeah i'm kinda not worried too much about the world tendency this playthrough. I guess getting to black world is easier (kill myself in body form?) which i can do before going ng+ or something.

The part about controller is probably because i've never owned any xbox or playstation, so using a controller in general is alien to me (although i have a xbox controller for my PC - i never used it for DS games). I just like how seperated things are on keyboard/mouse like;

rolling = press space with thumb
healing = press E with index finger
look around = move mouse with right hand

With a controller i have to do all three with he same right thumb (right stick, square and O). Normally that is fine, but in a 'panic-y' situation i fail. Say that i need to roll backwards and heal, but have no idea whats behind me - i usually have to just roll backwards blindly on PS3 and hope for the best where as on PC i would quickly move mouse to see behind me and press space with the other thumb to roll or choose not to if that is a bad idea.

I'm due for another play through with this. Love this game, only with a controller though.

edit: For whatever reasons, this is still my favorite out of all the Soulsborne games. I loved the WT mechanic. Things got frikken real with full black tendency, but I thought it an awesome idea to have items you had to switch tendencies to get to.

Farming the babies so I could keep suiciding to speed the process up  That was a pain though, you could die so fast down there lol.

Finished world 3 yesterday. Apperantly got the world to pure white as I unlocked that bridge to get the key for the blue dude and unlocked prison of hope (there was a sign in front of rubble saying "need world tendency"). I'm SL44 atm and do feel pretty powerful since strong 2H claymore attacks do a lot of damage (mostly one-shotting enemies thus far). With my HP (~25vit) i could take about 3-4 hits (the weaker attacks) from the maneater bosses before dying, which felt very generous.

I haven't had the need to farm healing items thus far, but I'm always extremly low on them. I think i have about 4 full moon and 1 of the starting heal items (green one) left atm. Enemies in world 3 barely dropped any.

Im thinking about what weapons to upgrade next.. perhaps a long sword and the dragon bone smasher (but those materials seem hard to come by atm).

Checked the wiki for weapons and a few I'll want with 50/50 dex/str build;
Estoc
Hiltless
Mirdan Hammer
Great Sword or Dragon bone smasher (seems hard to upgrade both hiltless and DBS..)
knight sword

Should give me the variety I want.

I don't remember much about the weapon specs anymore, but I remember having fun with the Dragon Long Sword+1 that you should already have found. I remember it having a bit of a stunning effect, making it pretty good against many enemies.

I liked the meat cleaver and the knight sword, and the cleaver can be had fairly early on.

I honestly remember very little about the build and equipment I used when I last played. Its been quite a while and I played this Souls game the least out of all of them. Doesn't mean I liked it the least though.

But I do have my posts in this thread to read over as somewhat of a gameplay journal.:)

World 4 done (storm stuff). Think the quality dmg is very strong since the Bosses were dying like flies (died once to old hero and the flying monster). Also did 5-1 which seems like a starting area? The boss hit me and i lost like 2% of my HP haha. Oh and i finished 1-3 too, no death on either level or boss, and ostrava gave me a pure clearstone so my claymore is now maxed. I also got some worlds i was done with to pure black so my DBS is now +5 too :)

But it seems upgrade material is very hard to come by so i probably wont be able to max out more weapons, at least not quality path.

As for build, its just a standard melee one.. Ive only leveled str/dex/vit and veeery little end. SL60 atm.

You don't have much left then? Valley of Defilement is pretty easy overall, though none of the bosses in DeS are really hard compared to bosses in DaS & DaS3. There is one hard optional non-boss fight in 1-1 though, which is recommendable to do if you've not already done it.

Maxing weapons is difficult, but not really necessary. +4 weapons are good enough.

You guys are gonna make me get another PS3 to play this again lol.

lviz - which boss are you referring to? I'm drawing a blank.

Same thing happened to me. I managed to get a PS3 for nearly free and am going to buy the digital copy of the game for future playthroughs.

I get it lol. I think I might be able to score a cheap one tomorrow. This "classic" is one I can't get enough of. Nothing else like it out there.

Non-boss, you mean? Old King Doran is harder than most bosses in the game. You get the sword easily, but the real fight starts after that.
