Stupidly thinking about an upgrade, need advice

My current R7 setup is getting a little long in the tooth. I'm tired of getting <100fps in Warzone at 1080p max with 110 FOV, and if the numbers for the CoD Vanguard beta hold true for release, I will be seeing <100fps at a higher FOV @ 1080p in that as well. I imagine Halo Infinite will be similar. I REALLY want a RTX 3080, but clearly that isn't happening.

Sooooooo right now I have 2 options based on GPU availability and pricing:

Alienware Aurora R10 Ryzen edition - R7 5800x w/ a CLC, and a RTX 3070
DIY Build - i7 11700K, CLC, MSI Z590 MAG Torpedo, Radeon RX 6700xt

Both will have 1TB NVME drives, and 32GB of 3200mhz DDR4 (I already have the memory for the DIY Build).

They are within $60 of each other price wise, I'm just not sure which route to go with.

I stopped watching after I saw that header start to come off the board.

FWIW though, that channel should've known that the system didn't come with an AIO cooler when they ordered it, it's a separate option on the configuration. Also, the system I mentioned is on sale at Microcenter for $1800. The only reason I contemplated it was the insane value given what Microcenter is selling 3070's for.

If it's a separate option on the config, it shouldn't be on the box  holy **** that cooler is bad LOL

I imagine they are simply too cheap to pay for 2 different boxes. But you aren't wrong, and that cooler looks worse than the $15 piece of crap I had on my 2nd gen i5 for 3 years

It also not the air cooler they use on Intel hardware. Only the Ryzen hardware gets that pos aircooler in that case chassis. The Intel CPU's get a 3 heat pipe blow design that vents directly at the rear exhaust fan.

Anyway, why wouldn't just snag a deal on Ryzen 3700x, 3800x or 3900x and a 6700XT or RTX 3070?

I would say if you are desperate then try a ABS build from Newegg. If something goes wrong at least they are good to replace stuff. I would also choose 3070 over 6700XT all day especially with Vanguard.

Microcenter only sells 5000-series, same with Newegg.

I think I figured out a way to swing a 5800x, though.

ABS is overpriced, and the 6700xt is what is in stock locally.

Can’t you get a 5800x directly for AMD. Though if you have a MC near you then you can get it from there for 340 bucks or some such.

As for graphics card I would definitely attempt a 3070/3080 even if they are LHR. They go for much cheaper and would be about same price as a 6700XT (3070 LHR I mean). Might need to look for them for a bit but it is quite doable as Nvidia LHR supply is better than AMD overall.

WTF are you talking about? Those are selling for like $1,000 right now, and the 6700xt is only $800.

So I went back to Microcenter and chatted up one of their sales reps. Found out that they are in fact selling 3070's for around $700 when in stock, which means the 6700XT is out of the question. Also found out what days they get trucks in, sooo I will be busy the next few weeks.

I think the plan is if I can get a 3070 I will get that with a 11700K, and if I can get a 3070Ti or 3080 (depending on price) I will probably get the 10700K and Z490 which will save me like $120.

Welcome to the worst time in history to upgrade your GPU.

I'm just glad I spent the extra money to get the 1080 when I did.

yeah avoid alienware like the plague at this point they have become one of the worst prebuilts on the market for desktops.

My mind changed about them too, especially after seeing that video.

I knew quality was gonna take a slight hit due to the Dell acquisition, but **** man I didn't think they'd literally be more poorly built than an $800 Optiplex from 2018.

Pretty much. I went through this whole search thing a while back….I would just keep an eye on pre-builds at the Microcenter closest to you. They don’t always put stock on the website (confirmed that multiple times) and you can snag a 3070 based rig for ~$1800 or so.

It just seems the most cost effective way right now.
