Stupidly thinking about an upgrade, need advice

There's a hidden secret at Micro Center for getting GPUs, look at the barebones kits. For example you can get this for $1899, you just need a CPU, Ram, and HD, and comes with a FTW Ultra 3080

Also this is a fantastic deal I'd jump on personally, the Omen 30Ls are actually pretty good OEMs. EDIT*** Just realised it's only showing in stock because of the open box.

honestly microcenters interal prebuilts are solid. and their build service is also solid if you dont want to build it yourself.

yeah avoid alienware like the plague at this point they have become one of the worst prebuilts on the market for desktops.

I knew quality was gonna take a slight hit due to the Dell acquisition, but **** man I didn't think they'd literally be more poorly built than an $800 Optiplex from 2018.

I have a bunch of these deployed where I work(Along with XPS desktop's that use the same chassis). They have been fine, I've only had one where a part failed just outside the 3yr warranty period. And if you pair them with 3yrs of ProSupport(which you 1000% should do) then if something does fail your covered anyway with repair at your location inside 2 business days at a time of your convenience.

That Bitspower kit looks sweet  I completely forgot, but isn’t this what you used? Or something like it?

So I went back to Microcenter and chatted up one of their sales reps. Found out that they are in fact selling 3070's for around $700 when in stock, which means the 6700XT is out of the question. Also found out what days they get trucks in, sooo I will be busy the next few weeks.

I think the plan is if I can get a 3070 I will get that with a 11700K, and if I can get a 3070Ti or 3080 (depending on price) I will probably get the 10700K and Z490 which will save me like $120.

I'm just glad I spent the extra money to get the 1080 when I did.
Good news. 3070 is dope af. I have literally gamed all year on it without issues.

Pretty much. I went through this whole search thing a while back….I would just keep an eye on pre-builds at the Microcenter closest to you. They don’t always put stock on the website (confirmed that multiple times) and you can snag a 3070 based rig for ~$1800 or so.

It just seems the most cost effective way right now.

I saw that on their website earlier this week, but they don't stock it in Queens, Brooklyn, or the one near me.

Yeah, they look solid based on the components they use. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

Where do you work where you're deploying Alienware desktops to end users?

Unfortunately that's a little outside my budget, and also I'd prefer Intel. I don't see any Intel barebone kits in the 3 near me.

:D A place that has a VR lab. That said in the last 5yrs I've only have one system with a part fail. In that case it was the dell branded GPU that died :(

Alienware is a brand. These days, an over priced brand. You'll always do better building your own. And these days, I think you'd do a lot better off with another brand.

That being said, I can understand wanting to just buy one. Might want to look around though. Also, if you give it a couple of weeks you might luck your way into a reduced price on an AMD rig after Intel drops their next CPU.

Good luck!

https://discord.com/invite/umcd join the unofficial micro center discord and select your correct group per your location, there's usually people waiting outside in the morning that gives stock update etc. This is how I got my 3080/5950x etc..

And yet Evileh just casually strolled into his Best Buy, asked for a 3080Ti and sure enough they gave him one.

Some people are lucky, ya know?

100% true. I was just trying to help advise that I haven't really had much in the way of reliability issues with the Alienware hardware :)

I could've gotten one today at Best Buy.... For $1500

Instead I just now overpaid Adorama for a 3070 that I may or may not cancel.
